The SuperStack
®II Dual Speed Hub Hot Swap Cascade Unit is for use with the
SuperStack II Dual Speed Hub 500. In a stack of units, the Hot Swap Cascade Units
are used to connect the Dual Speed Hub Cascade Cables together. You can then
add and remove Dual Speed Hub 500 units from the stack by connecting or
disconnecting them from the Hot Swap Cascade Units. This means that if a unit fails
or is removed, it does not affect stack performance, because the remaining units in
the stack can continue to communicate.
The Hot Swap Cascade Unit is referred to as ‘
cascade unit’ in this User Guide.
For safety information, refer to the information in the user guide that accompanies
the Dual Speed Hub 500.

Using the Cascade Units
Cascade units are quick and easy to use. You need:
■One cascade unit for each Dual Speed Hub 500 in the stack.
■A maximum of 6m (19.6ft) of cascade cabling (between the top and bottom
units in the stack). SuperStack II Dual Speed Hub 500 cascade cables are
available from your supplier.
To use your cascade units:
1Connect the cascade units with the cascade cables (as shown in diagram Abelow).
2Connect the cascade units to the back of the units in the stack (as shown in
diagram
Bbelow). Tighten the cascade units’ long screws to hold them firmly in
place.
Never disconnect any of the cascade cables from the cascade units, when the stack
is in use, because doing so will break the cascade and split the stack. If you want to
remove a Dual Speed Hub 500, unscrew the cascade unit’s long screws and
separate the cascade unit from the Dual Speed Hub 500.
