1. Overview
The Abbott CONNECT Universal Gateway is a network device designed to allow the transmission of test results
from a medical device to a central Abbott-managed portal, which is known as:
RALS LiNKTM (USA region)
SympheosTM (other global regions)
The Abbott ID NOWTM device is a rapid, instrument-based, isothermal system for the qualitative detection of
infectious diseases. ID NOWTM may be referred to interchangeably within this document as an instrument or a
device.
This guide does not include detailed instructions for the use or operation of the ID NOWTM instrument. For
further information please refer to https://www.globalpointofcare.abbott/en/product-details/id-now.html.
This guide includes instructions for direct-connect of up to two (2) ID NOWTM instruments with one (1)
CONNECT Unversal Gateway device.
Illustrations contained in this document are intended to be representative of screens displayed on an ID NOWTM
device. Variations to device appearance may be present in actual products.
2. Purpose
This guide details the steps required to attach one or two ID NOWTM instruments directly to a single CONNECT
Universal Gateway (without the use of a network switch).
Following completion of the steps in this guide, the ID NOWTM instrument and the CONNECT Universal
Gateway device(s) will be ready to transmit test results into RALS LiNKTM or SympheosTM.
3. Required Items
In order to attach a single ID NOWTM to a CONNECT Universal Gateway, the following hardware is required:
1 x Abbott CONNECT Universal Gateway device
2 x CONNECT Universal Gateway Antennas
1 x CONNECT Universal Gateway Power cable
2 x ID NOWTM device
2 x ID NOWTM power cable
2 x Ethernet cable

4. Connecting Multiple Devices to a CONNECT Universal Gateway
The CONNECT Universal Gateway can be used to directly attach up to two (2) ID NOWTM devices. A network
switch is not necessary for this configuration.
To direct-connect one (1) ID NOWTM instrument, please complete Section 5 in this document.
To direct-connect two (2) ID NOWTM instruments, please complete Section 5, followed by Section 6.
Alternatively, up to seven (7) ID NOWTM devices may be attached to a single CONNECT Universal Gateway, by
utilizing a network switch. This scenario is not covered within this document. Please see Section 1, Overview for
the related document reference.

5. Direct-Connect First ID NOWTM Device to CONNECT Universal Gateway
Follow this section to attach the first (or only) ID NOWTM device to a CONNECT Universal Gateway device.
NOTE: To optionally attach a second ID NOWTM device, please first complete Section 5 (this section), followed
by Section 6 in this document.

ATTACH the antennas into sockets by turning them in a
clockwise direction.
The antenna sockets are located on the opposite side of the
CONNECT Universal Gateway from the Ethernet ports.

CONNECT the power adapter and cable as indicated, and
plug the adapter into a power outlet.
The CONNECT Universal Gateway will automatically
switch on. If it does not, press the Power button on the
Universal Gateway.
Observe and check the three device status lights 1, 2
and 3.
If a solid Status 1 light does not appear within two
minutes, restart the Universal Gateway by pressing
and holding down the Power button for five seconds.
The Status 2 light will flash while the device attempts
to connect.
The Status 3 light will remain solid green when a
successful connection is established with RALS
LiNKTM or SympheosTM.

INSERT one end of the first Ethernet Cable into the LAN
port on the CONNECT Universal Gateway.

INSERT the opposite end of the first Ethernet Cable into the
Ethernet port of the first ID NOWTM device.
Physical installation for the first ID NOWTM device is
COMPLETE.
Proceed to the next section to complete configuration.

Configuration
In order for the first ID NOWTM instrument to communicate with the CONNECT Universal Gateway, additional
configuration steps are required, as follows:

VERIFY that the first ID NOWTM device is powered on;
TURN ON the CONNECT Universal Gateway.
Note: The CONNECT Universal Gateway will
automatically switch on once attached to power. If
this does not occur, press the Power button.

CHECK the status lights on the CONNECT
Universal Gateway
Observe and check the three device status
lights 1, 2 and 3.
If a solid Status 1 light does not appear within
two minutes, restart the Universal Gateway by

LOG ON to the ID NOWTM as the Admin user.

Note: The Admin password is created when the ID
NOWTM is turned on for the first time. If this has not
been done, please follow instructions provided in
Section 7.

A connectivity test will be performed by the device.
A Pending status message is displayed during the
test.

status message, a Success status message will be

If the test is not successful, check that:

The Universal Gateway is powered on.

6. Direct-connect Second ID NOWTM Device to CONNECT Universal Gateway
Pre-requisite activity
Please ensure that Section 5 in this document has first been completed, in its entirety.
Then proceed to Section 6.2.

port on the CONNECT Universal Gateway.

the Ethernet port of the second ID NOWTM device.
