ThePowerlineAdaptorsworkinpairs;youneedonePowerlineAdaptor
connected to the internet and also one Powerline Adaptor per computer you
wishtoconnecttothenetwork.

Physical Interface
There are 3 physical interfaces on this Powerline Adaptor.

• Follow the steps below:
1. Plug in a new Powerline Adaptor.
2. Press the Pairbuttonfor3-8seconds,thenrelease,
the PWR indicator will start to flash.
3. Plug in the 2nd Powerline Adaptor.
4. Pressthe2ndPowerlineAdaptor’sPair button for
3-8 seconds then release. The PWR indicator will
start to flash.
5. Wait for about 1 minute for the Powerline Adaptors
to finish connecting.
BothPair buttons must be pressed within 2 minutes of
each other.

Hardware Connection – Computer
ToconnectacomputertothePowerlineAdaptor,youmustusean
Ethernet(RJ-45)cable(included).
Follow the steps below to connect a computer to the Powerline Adaptor.
1. ConnecttheprovidedEthernetcabletoyourcomputer’sLANport.
2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Powerline
Adaptor’sEthernetport.
3. PlugthePowerlineAdaptorintoawallsocketnexttothecomputer.
Ensurethewallsocketisturned‘ON’.
4. Turn on your computer.
5. Checkandconfirmthatthe PWR indicator and ETH indicator
on the Powerline Adaptor are ON.

Hardware Connection – Internet
ToconnectthePowerlineAdaptortoyourexistingbroadbandservice,
follow the steps below:
1. ConnecttheEthernetcabletoanavailableEthernetportofyour
ADSLBroadbandRouter.
2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Powerline
Adaptor’sEthernetport.
3. PlugthePowerlineAdaptorintoawallsocketnexttothecomputer.
Ensurethewallsocketisturned‘ON’.Turnonyourcomputer.
4. Checkandconfirmthatthe PWRindicator, PLCindicator,and
ETH indicator on the Powerline Adaptor are ON.
5. If the PLCindicatordoesnotilluminate,pleasefollowtheroutine
for pairing the Powerline Adaptors.

INSTALLING POWERLINE UTILITY
Pleaseverifythatthefollowingiscorrectbeforeinstallingtheprovided
software:

before installing the PowerLine Utiltiy.Ifnot,awindowwillpopupforyouto
install WinPcap 4.1.1.
1. InsertthesuppliedResourceCDintoaCDdriveonthecomputer
that is connected to your router.
2. Double-clickAPWL2012. All necessary files will be copied to your
computer.
IftheCDdoesnotstartautomatically,goto“My Computer CD/
DVD Drive APWL2012”.Double-clickAPWL2012.

3. Follow the prompts on the Installation Wizard Windows.

4. Afterinstallation,ashortcuttothe“APWL2012”
application icon will be automatically placed on
the Windows®desktop.

After successfully installing the Powerline Adaptor hardware and
software,youcansetuporconfiguredevicesaccordingtoyourneeds.
The Ethernet Powerline Adaptor Configuration Utility allows you to do the
following:
>IdentifyPowerlinedevicesonthePowerlinenetwork
>Measuredatarateperformance
>Ensureprivacy
>Perform diagnostics through setting user-defined secure Powerline
networks
USING THE POWERLINE UTILITY
Accessing the Configuration Settings
1. Double-clicktheAPWL2012 icon onthedesktop.
2. The Powerline Utility window will pop up showing 3 tabs: Status,
Network,andSystem.
This procedure is only recommended for experienced users.

Status
The Status tab shows the information of the Powerline Adaptor that is
connected to the current computer that is running the PowerLine Utility
programme.Inthiswindow,youcanalsosettheNetworkName.
MAC Address
Show’sthePowerlineAdaptor’sMACaddress.
Network Name
ShowsthecurrentNetworkName.YoucanchangetheNetworkNameby
typingintothetextboxnextto“Network Name”.
ThedefaultnameforthenetworknameisHomePlugAV.
Use Default (HomePlugAV)
Checktheboxifyouwishtousethedefaultnetworkname.
Apply
ClickApply to confirm the settings.
Password
ShowsthecurrentpasswordofthePowerlineAdaptor.Notetheformatof
the password.

Firmware
ShowsthecurrentfirmwareversionusedbythePowerlineAdaptor.
RefreshButton
ClicktheRefresh button to update the information.
Setting Local Device’s Network Name
Setsthelocaldevice’snetworkname.
1. ClicktheStatus tab to display the Status window.
2. Enteranameforthecurrentnetworkingusing4-23characters.
3. ClickApply to confirm the settings.
If you want to use the default name (HomePlugAV)asyournetwork
name,checkthe“Use Default (HomePlugAV)”,thenclicktheApply
button to confirm.

Network
The Network tab shows all the Powerline Adaptors found on the current
logicalnetwork.Furthermore,youcanchangetheNameofthelisted
PowerlineAdaptorsaswellasaddanotherdevicetothecurrentnetwork.
Type
Showsthetypeofremotedevicefoundinthenetwork(notthedevice
currentlyconnectedtothecomputerinuse).
Name
Showsthenameoftheremotedeviceinthenetwork.
MAC Address
ShowstheMACaddressoftheremotedevicefoundinthenetwork.
EnsureallPowerlineAdaptorsarenotinPowersavemode( PWR indicator
flashing).Ifso,poweroff/on.

Rate (Mbps)
ShowsthecurrenttransmissionrateofthePowerlineAdaptor(notthe
maximumrateof200Mbps).
Option
ChangethecorrespondingPowerlineAdaptor’snameandpasswordby
selectingthedeviceandclicktheModify button.
RescanButton
ClicktheRescan button to perform an immediate search of the
Powerline Adaptor.
Password
Onfirstuse,thisisblank.
Ifapasswordhasbeenset,thissectionwillshowthecurrentpassword
of the Powerline Adaptor.
Whencreatingaprivatenetwork,ormanagingalldevices,apasswordis
required.Tosetthepassword,followthestepsbelow:
1. Selectthetargetdevicelistedinthewindow.
2. ClickModify.
3. Follow the prompts in the pop-up dialogue boxes to complete your
password setting.
The Adaptor will automatically perform the scanning process and update the
displayeveryfewsecondsbydefault.
>Thepasswordtypicallyappearsasanalphanumericcode,ingroupsof4,
separatedbydashesandcanbefoundonthebackoftheAdaptor,
i.e.,CNBT-OLEG-IPLK-YPGR.

Renaming the Powerline Adaptor and Enter Password
Inthistab,youcan:
>Changethenameoftheremoteadaptor(s).
>Selectthedesiredadaptorandchangeitspassword,soyoucanset
theNetworkNameintheSystemconfigurationtab.
Tochangethenameoftheremoteadaptor(s)andenteritspassword,
follow the steps below:
1. In the Networkwindow,selectthedesiredPowerlineAdaptor.
2. ClicktheModify button to display the dialogue window.
