Introduction
This kit contains all of the instructions and parts required to install Option BAB or
Option 518 on an Agilent N9039A RF Preselector.
This installation note provides instructions on how to change the RF INPUT and RF
OUTPUT front panel connectors.
IMPORTANT For installation of Option BAB the N9039AK-BAB license must be
installed.
For installation of Option BAB the license for N9039AK-BAB must be
removed.

Installation Procedure
CAUTION If the instrument is placed on its face during any of the following
procedures, be sure to use a soft surface or soft cloth to avoid damage to
the front panel, keys, or input connector.
1. Disconnect the instrument from ac power.
2. Refer to Figure 1. Using the T-20 driver, remove the four screws (two on each side)
(1) that attach the handle strap (2) on each side of the instrument.
3. Using the T-20 driver, remove the four screws (including washers) (3) that hold the
rear feet (4) in place.
4. Pull the instrument cover (5) off towards the rear of the instrument.

NOTE Make sure any connectors on the front panel are removed.
5. Refer to Figure 2. Using the T-10 driver, remove the eight screws (1), four on each
side, to detach the Front Frame Assembly from the chassis.
6. Refer to Figure 3. Pull the Front Frame Assembly carefully away from the chassis.
Remove the ribbon cable W1 from the mother board.

7. Refer to Figure 4. Loosen the three semi-rigid cables from the three front panel
connectors.

8. Refer to Figure 5. Remove the chassis side right (outer) (1) by removing the screws
(2) using the T-10 driver.

9. Remove the RF Output connector (3) and cable W4. Replace with the new RF Output
connector and cable from the kit. Leave the screws loose.
10.Install the EMI O-ring on the RF Output connector.
11.Remove the RF Input connector (4) and cable W3. Replace with the new RF Input
connector and cable from the kit. Torque the screws to 9 inch-pounds and the cable to
10 inch-pounds.
12.Install the EMI O-ring on the RF Input connector.
13.Refer to Figure 5. Carefully position the chassis side (1) onto the chassis, taking care
to align W4 and W5 into the front panel connectors. Replace the screws (2). Torque to
9 inch-pounds.
14.Check the connection between the three semi-rigid cables and the three front panel
connectors. Torque the remaining screws to 9 inch-pounds and the cables to
10 inch-pounds.
15.Reattach the ribbon cable W1.

16.Refer to Figure 2. Carefully position the Front Frame Assembly onto the chassis.
Ensure no cables are crushed. Replace the eight screws (1), four on each side of the
chassis. Torque to 9 inch pounds.
17.Slide the instrument cover back onto the deck from the rear. The seam on the cover
should be on the bottom. Be sure the cover seats into the gasket groove in the Front
Frame Assembly.
18.Replace the four rear feet to the rear of the instrument. Torque the rear feet screws to
21 inch pounds.
19.Replace the handle straps on both sides of the instrument. Torque the handle strap
screws to 21 inch pounds.

Installation of N9039AK-BAB License
For installing Option BAB.
1. Locate the Option Upgrade Entitlement Certificate (5964-5178) from the kit.
2. Redeem the Option Upgrade Entitlement Certificate by following the instructions on
the Certificate.
3. After redeeming your Option Upgrade Entitlement Certificate you will receive an
email with an attached License File.
4. Locate the USB Storage Device from the kit.
5. Save the License File to the root directory of the USB Storage Device.
6. Connect the USB Storage Device to the signal analyzer USB port. Windows will
detect the new hardware and may display the configuration menu shown in Figure 6.
This menu may be configured according to your preferences.

7. The signal analyzer will automatically consume the License File. (This may take a
few minutes) When the License File is consumed the Agilent License Manager will
display a “Successful License Installation” message as shown in Figure 7.

Alternate Installation Procedure
The License File can be manually installed over USB or LAN by placing the license file
in the following folder on the signal analyzer
C:\Program Files\Agilent\licensing
Verify the Installation of Option BAB
1. Press System, Show, System to display a list of installed options.
2. Verify that Option BAB appears on the list.

Removal of N9039AK-BAB License
For installing Option 518.
1. Press System, Licensing to launch the Agilent licensing manager. Highlight Option
BAB and press Delete.
Alternate Removal Procedure
The License File can be manually deleted by removing the N9039A file from the
following folder on the N9039A RF Preselector:
C:\Program Files\Agilent\licensing
Verify the Installation of Option 518
1. Press System, Show, System to display a list of installed options.
2. Verify that Option BAB does NOT appear on the list.

Utilities, Adjustments, and Performance Verification Tests
Calibration Software and specified test equipment is required to perform the
adjustments, and can be used to automate the performance verification testing.

A full calibration is required to assure the instrument meets all specifications
The end user must ultimately determine whether they want a full calibration to be
performed after the installation of this upgrade or not. If a full calibration is required,
arrangements regarding the level of calibration must be made between the end user and
the calibration provider.
