Step 1 Before installing the utility software, do not insert the Cardbus
adapter into your computer. If the adapter is inserted already, Windows
will detect the adapter and request for a driver. Click Cancel to quit the
wizardandremovethe Cardbusadapter fromyour computer.
Step 2 Close all programs that are currently running. Insert the
providedUtility andDriver CDinto yourCD-ROM driveandselect
Install Software from the setup menu. See Fig. 1.1.
Step 3 When the welcome screen appears, click Next. See Fig 1.2.

Step 4 Select FCC as the Country Domain for U.S., or choose the
appropriatedomain foryour country.Click OK afteryouhave read and
agreedto theCountry Domain SelectionWarning.
Note: If the setup menu does not appear automatically,
select Run from the Windows Start menu and type
D:\Utility\Setup.exe (where D is the letter of your CD-Rom
drive)andclick OK.

Step 6 Click Finish. Restart the computer if you are using Windows 98/
ME or if you are prompted to do so.
Step 1 After the computer is restarted, insert the Cardbus adapter into the
computer. The Found New Hardware Wizard will appear. See Fig 2.1

Step 2 Select Install the software automatically and click Next.
Step 3 If you are prompted for the location of the driver, browse to the
Drivers folderon yourCD-ROM driveor type D:\Drivers\ (whereD
is the letter of your CD-ROM drive) and click OK. See Fig 2.2
Step 4 Click Finish to complete the driver installation.

Configure Basic Cardbus Settings
Access the WLAN Cardbus Utility
Afterinstalling thesoftwareand driverfor theCardbus, youshould usethe
WLANCardbusUtility toconfigure the appropriatesettings inorderto
establishconnection with yourwireless network.
You can access the utility by double-clicking the WLAN Cardbus Utility icon
in the System Tray. See Fig 3.1
Step 5 Click Next to accept the default destination folder to install the
software or click Browse to manually select a different destination
folder.

Note: For Windows XP/2000, click Continue Anyway or Yes if the
Windowslogo compatibility messageappears.

Note to Windows XP Users Only
WindowsXP providesa built-in Wireless Zero Configuration Utility for
configuringandmonitoring wirelessdevices onyour computer. Whenit is
enabled, it will override the WLANCardbus Utility. To disable theWindows
XPWireless Zero Configuration Utility and havetheWLAN Cardbus
Utilitymanage yourCardbus, performthefollowing steps:
Step 2 On the Wireless Networks tab, uncheck the Use Windows to
configure my wireless network settings box and click OK. This will
restore the management function to the WLANCardbus Utility.
Basic Configurations
Step 1 Double-click the Windows XP network icon and click Advanced (or
Properties).
Select the Configuration tab in the WLAN Cardbus Utility to set your
settings. See Fig. 3.2 You can use the Status tab to ensure the Cardbus has successfully
associated with the targetAccess Point or wireless client. See Fig 3.3
Network Mode:Select Infrastructure (Access Point) forconnecting
to anAccess Point, or select 802.11 Ad-Hoc for using computer-to-
computerconnection.
Network SSID: Enter or select the SSID of the network that you wish
to join. The SSIDdistinguishes oneWLANgroup from another, so all
access points and all devices attempting to connect to a specific
WLANgroup must use the same SSID. If the SSIDfield is set to ANY,
it will detect the strongest signal from any available wireless network.

Note:After you have specified all the configurations, click Apply to
activate the settings.

Channel: Displays the channel number that is currently being used by
theCardbus.The channel number canonlybe setunder theAd-Hoc
mode. InAd-Hoc mode, each client must have the same channel number
and SSIDin order to connect to each other properly. In Infrastructure
mode, the Cardbus will automatically detect and use the channel
numberprovided by theAccessPoint.
Note: You must use the same SSIDas the network you want to
join; otherwise, the correct connection cannot be established.

Enable WEP Encryption (optional)
Step 1 From the WLAN Cardbus Utility, select the Configuration
tab.
Step 2 Select the Enable Encryption check box.
Step 3 Choose the applicable key length and format and enter the key
valuesin oneof thefour spacesprovided.
If you use 40/60 Bit key length with Hex format, you must enter 10
characters ranging from the numbers 0 through 9 and the lettersA
throughFin anycombination.
If you use 40/60 Bit key length with ASCII format, you must enter 5
alphanumericcharacters inany combination.
If you use 128 Bit key length with Hex format, you must enter 26
characters ranging from the numbers 0 through 9 and the lettersA
throughFin anycombination.
If you use 128 Bit key length with ASCII format, you must enter 13
alphanumericcharacters inany combination.
Pleaserefer to thefollowing chartfor someexamples:

Step 5 Select the key you want to use to encrypt your wireless connection.
Step 6After you have entered all the encryption settings, click Apply to
activatethe changes.
Note: When setting WEP keys for data encryption, all the wireless
clients and/or Access Points must use the same encryption key
values. For example, if you use Key 1 on your Cardbus and assigned a
certain value to it, then the same value must be assigned to Key 1 for
all the clients and/or Access Points in your wireless network.
Enabling WEP Encryption provides security to your wireless connection
andprevents unauthorizedaccess toyournetwork.
In order for the encryption to function correctly, both the targetAccess
Point or wireless client must use the same encryption settings. To
enableencryption onthe cardbus, performthe followingsteps:
