Introduction
The Vitalic Duo-TENS Back Therapy Belt is an accessory designed for
use with the Duo-TENS device by those who suffer from muscular tension
and lower back pain. Transcutaneous (through the skin) Electrical Nerve
Stimulation device, known as TENS, is a non-invasive therapy used to
relieve pain. Unlike strong pain medication, TENS does not cause nausea,
drowsiness or lead to dependence.
Reviewing the medical literature confirms the beneficial effects of
TENS therapy on relieving pain by stimulating muscles, nerve fibres and
acupuncture meridians to activate the body’s own pain relief mechanisms.
In many instances, TENS stimulation cannot cure the cause of the pain but
aids in relieving the discomfort.
Statement of Intended Purpose
The Vitalic Duo-TENS and Back Therapy Belt are designed as a system to
be used together to relieve lumbar stiffness and acute or chronic back pain
caused by sporting, lifestyle or work activities.
Use this device only for its intended purpose and as specified in this
instruction manual.
Package Contents
This package contains one Vitalic Duo-TENS Device, one Vitalic Duo-TENS
Back Therapy Belt, a case and user manual. Before using this accessory,
ensure the belt is undamaged and suitable for use.

Skin Preparation
Prior to therapy, clean the skin to remove any residues of moisturiser,
liniment, etc ensuring the skin is clean and free of oil. Do not place the
therapy belt on injured or inflamed skin including open wounds, scars,
rashes or red irritated areas.
Before applying the therapy belt, dampen the integrated silicon electrodes
with water using your finger tip. See Figure 2.

8
Therapy Belt Positioning and Adjustment
Position the therapy belt’s electrodes on the area of the back to be treated.
If the back ache is at waist level; the pain is in the upper treatment area.
Position the belt so that the middle of the belt is at waist level.
If the back pain is in the lower treatment area, position the belt so that the
middle of the belt sits approximately 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) below the
waist. See Figure 3.
When the belt has been manoeuvred into the correct position, bring the two ends
of the neoprene straps together and fasten with the built-in hook and loop pads.
The belt may be tightened or loosened as shown by adjusting the hook and
loop fasteners (See Figure 4).

Selecting the Treatment Intensity Level
Treatment intensity may be individually adjusted according to the channel
selected. Select the desired channel to adjust by pressing either CH1 or
CH2. “CH1” or “CH2” will flash on the display.
To increase treatment intensity, press ON + repeatedly until the desired
intensity level flashing on the display is appropriate. To decrease treatment
intensity, press OFF – repeatedly until the desired intensity level flashing on
the display is appropriate. Press the “MODE” button to save the selection.
iNOTE: The change in treatment intensity will be felt immediately
and should be used as a guide to select a comfortable level.
Selecting the Treatment Time
To select or change the duration of treatment press the MODE button. The
preset (default) treatment time will flash on the display.
To increase or decrease the treatment time, press the button ON + (to

16
User Precautions
Turn off the device if the stimulation feels unpleasant or does not provide pain
relief. Consult your doctor as more comprehensive treatment may be required
to achieve improvement.
Before removing the device, ensure it is turned OFF, to avoid an unpleasant
stimulation.
Some people experience skin irritation or intense skin sensitivity due to electrical
stimulation. If this occurs, stop using the device and consult your doctor.
Adverse Reactions
Side effects from TENS therapy are generally mild, even with extended
use. The most common side effects include muscle soreness, redness and
muscle twitching.
The constant pulsing of TENS therapy can cause muscle soreness, redness and
twitching due to electrical over-stimulation. This condition generally alleviates
by using shorter treatment times or decreasing the frequency of daily therapy.
Minor redness at the site of electrode placement is a normal skin reaction.
It is not considered as skin irritation and normally disappears within 30
minutes after the completion of treatment.

Therapy Belt Care, Maintenance
and Storage
Always detach the Duo-TENS device from the Therapy Belt before cleaning.
As the connection cables are integrated into the belt, do not pull on
the cables but on the connectors attached to the ends of the cables to
disconnect the belt from the TENS device.
Clean the therapy belt using a sponge lightly dampened with water.
!Do not wash the belt in water either by hand or machine.
Do not use bleach when washing the belt.
Do not dry clean your belt.
Do not dry the therapy belt with strong heat (eg. a heater), by tumble drying
or by ironing as it contains plastic parts which could be damaged.
If the therapy belt becomes damp during use, let it dry naturally, by laying
the belt out flat or hanging it up to dry completely, before further use.
Store the therapy belt, in a cool, dry place, out of the reach of children, and
away from prolonged heat exposure, dirt and extreme humidity. Ensure the
therapy belt is properly folded during storage, as shown in Figure 6, to avoid
damaging the connection cables integrated into the belt.
