INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Thank you for buying our 100 brand new designed patches for the Akai AX-73 & VX-90.
In this pdf we explain how to transfer the presets into your Akai AX-73 or Akai VX-90
synthesizer.
In your download file you will find the installation instructions, the EULA (end-user licence
agreement), a sysex file named “SF - Akai AX-73 & VX-90 patches.syx” and an audio file
named “SF - Akai AX-73 & VX-90 patches-to-tape.wav”.
The sysex file can only be used when there is a Tauntek firmware upgrade installed into
your synthesizer. If this is not the case please read the TAPE DUMP section in this
installation instruction.
SYSEX
When you have the Tauntek firmware upgrade installed into your synthesizer you can use the
included sysex file. !
Before you install our presets please make sure you make a backup of your current presets
if you like to keep them for future use. Installing our presets will erase ALL current presets
in your synthesizer. Please refer to the Tauntek user manual on how to back-up your
current presets. Sonic Freaks is in no way responsible when or if you loose and/or damage
your presets. Please read the included EULA for more details.
•To install our presets connect your Akai AX-73 or Akai VX-90 to your computer via a midi cable.
Connect the midi cable into the midi out of your midi interface which is connected to your
computer (PC/Mac). !
•The other end of the midi cable needs to be connected to the midi input of your Akai AX-73 or
Akai VX-90 synthesizer.!
•Startup your favourite sysex software and load the supplied sysex file named “SF - Akai AX-73
& VX-90 patches.syx”. There are several free sysex tools for both Mac and PC.
We recommend SysEx Librarian by Snoize for Mac and Midi-OX for PC.!
•Make sure you select the appropriate midi port in your sysex software. !
•Press play in your sysex software. The patches will now be automatically transferred into your
Akai AX-73 or Akai VX-90 synthesizer. This takes only a few seconds. !
•Please note that when performing a midi dump into your Akai AX-73 or Akai VX-90 the current
preset doesn’t change automatically into the new preset. Just change the preset via one of the
buttons on your synth to see the new presets. !
Enjoy your new presets!!
If or some reason the transfer didn’t work please try again. It could be the transfer rate is set too
high or too low in your sysex software. Please adjust it accordingly. Feel free to contact us when
you come across installation issues.

TAPE DUMP
When you do not have the Tauntek firmware upgrade please use the supplied “SF - Akai AX-73 &
VX-90 patches-to-tape.wav” file. This audiofile is 44.1Khz and 24bit and can be played via any
modern DAW or audio player.!
Before you start make sure you have turned the level of your speakers down or even better,
OFF, so when playing the audio file you do not damage your speakers or ears. The audio file
contains a recording of the tape dump which is a serie’s of digital pulses which are very
loud and can damage your speakers and hearing.
Before you install our presets please make sure you make a backup of your current presets
if you like to keep them for future use. Installing our presets will erase ALL current presets
in your synthesizer. Please refer to the Akai AX-73 or Akai VX-90 owners manual on how to
back-up your current presets. Sonic Freaks is in no way responsible when or if you loose
and/or damage your presets. Please read the included EULA for more details.
•Connect your DAW output (mono) or audio player (mono) to the tape input on your Akai AX-73
or Akai VX-90 synthesizer.!
•Load the supplied audio file into your DAW or audio player. Make sure the file plays correctly
and sends out a decent level (check your VU meter or level meter). !
•Press Tape on your Akai AX-73 or Akai VX-90 synthesizer and then load. In the display of your
synth it will say: Tape: Load ALL
•Press Load again on your synth and start playing the audio file in your DAW or audio player. It
will take about 1:50 so load all the patches into your synthesizer. !
•When finished press Tape again and you now have 100 new presets.!
Enjoy your new presets!!
If for some reason the transfer didn’t work please just try again. Sometimes the audio level is too
low or too high. Adjust the output level accordingly. Feel free to contact us when you come across
