1. DESCRIPTION
1.1. The TTD3000C03
The TTD3000C03 is a distributor module for TTL level digital signals transmitted over
coaxial cabling. The unit consists of two identical sections, each of which is a distributor
with one loop-through input and five outputs each.
In addition to the components used for signal distribution, each section provides a signal
presence detector, a frequency measurement circuit and a selector to determine which
input will be distributed. These elements make it possible to use the TTD3000C03 as a
sole distributor with one loop-through input and ten outputs, or as an automated switch
between the two inputs.
The TTD3000C03 provides front panel LEDs that indicate both the input selected for
each section and the status of the inputs.
The impedance of the outputs is configurable to either 50 or 75Ω.
It is possible to monitor the TTD3000C03 status remotely using a communications
controller module installed in the same mounting frame. In addition, certain controller
modules provide SNMP management and the ability to record events in a file including
date and time information for further analysis.
The TTD3000C03 is a TL3000 terminal line module and can be housed in a three rack
unit (3 RU) UR3000 mounting frame or a 1 RU UR3100 mounting frame.

3. INSTALLATION
THE TTD3000C03 MODULE CONTAINS ELECTRONIC DEVICES SENSITIVE TO
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. Always use antistatic bags clearly identified
with a high degree of shielding for storage and transportation.
The TTD3000C03 module is composed of two parts: one TTD3000P03 main board and
one XVD3000P04 rear board. Both parts must be installed in a UR3000 or UR3100
mounting frame following the instructions in the corresponding section of this chapter.
3.1. Initial inspection
Verify that the package has been properly handled during transport. After opening the
packaging, check that one TTD3000P03 main board and one XVD3000P04 rear board are
inside.
You must notify your Albalá Ingenieros distributor or dealer of any damage or defects
observed.
Follow the instructions in this manual to install this module in the mounting frame.
3.2. Safety instructions
•This equipment must be connected to a mains outlet with a protective
earth connection. Never use extension cords that do not have protective
earthing connection. The lack of an effective electrical connection between
the ground pin in the mains input connector of the equipment and the
protective earth of the electrical power distribution can cause serious harm.
•All modules of the Albalá Ingenieros TL3000 terminal line can be
hot-plugged or unplugged without suffering any damage or affecting the
processes that are currently taking place in other modules in the same
mounting frame. When a module is installed in an empty bay of a mounting
frame, it is necessary to mount the rear board that is part of that module.
Prior to installing this board, the mounting frame must be disconnected
from the power supply network. This is required because in addition to the
risk of electrocution for the person handling the device it is possible that a
high instantaneous current coming from the power supply could damage
the connectors and components of the mounting frame and/or the rear
board.
11

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual TTD3000C03
•The TTD3000C03 module and the mounting frame should always be
installed, maintained, operated and removed by personnel with sufficient
technical qualifications. The equipment should never be placed in damp
areas, near splashing liquid, or in explosive or corrosive atmospheres.
Neither modules nor mounting frames can be used in applications that
could endanger human life.
3.3. Environmental considerations
This symbol indicates that this equipment must be deposited at a collection
point for proper waste treatment once it has reached the end of its useful
life.
3.4. Power considerations
The UR3000 and UR3100 mounting frames can house as many TTD3000C03 modules as
will fit in them.
The TTD3000C03 module delivers TTL level signals at its outputs that when loaded at
50Ω requires significant power consumption, especially if the signal stays at a high level.
In a normal-use case, such as when the duty cycle is 50%, power consumption is half of
the worst case level.
A maximum of seven TTD3000C03 modules can be installed a a 3RU UR3000 mounting
frame with a single power supply. A second power supply is necessary when eight, nine
or ten TTD3000C03 modules are installed in the same mounting frame. However, if the
distributor is used with 50% duty cycle clock signals a mounting frame with up to 12
TTD3000C03 modules can be powered by a single power supply.
This limitation does not apply to the 1RU UR3100 mounting frame. With this mounting
frame, up to three TTD3000C03 modules can be installed
3.5. Installing the module in the mounting frame
The steps needed to install the TTD3000C03 module with the rear board in the
mounting frame are:
1 - Disconnect all power cords from the power supplies of the mounting frame.
2 - Remove the blank panels covering the front and rear of the empty bays chosen for
installing the TTD3000C03 in the mounting frame.
3 - Install the XVD3000P04 rear board ensuring that its 12-pin connectors are properly
aligned with the mounting frame´s mating connectors. Check that the orientation of
the board is correct by looking at the placement of the text printed on it according to
12

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual TTD3000C03
the illustration below.
4 - Attach the rear board to the mounting frame with two M3 metric screws and tighten.
5 - Insert the TTD3000P03 board (main board of the TTD3000C03 module) into the front
of the mounting frame. The edges of the card slide into two plastic guides inside the
mounting frame.
6 - Affix the main board to the mounting frame using the two screws included on the
front panel.
After these steps, the module is ready to be connected to other equipment.

3.6. Interconnection
The following figure shows the TTD3000C03 module rear board connector layout.
Rear view of the TTD3000C03
The TTD3000C03 module provides two loop-through inputs (IN-A,LOOP-A and IN-B,
LOOP-B) and five outputs TTL level digital signal outputs per section: (OUT1-A to OUT5-A
and OUT1-B to OUT5-B). If the TTD3000C03 has been configured as a sole distributor
with ten outputs, the loop-through input of Section A is used (IN-A,LOOP-A) and the ten
outputs are achieved by using all five outputs of each section.
If the TTD3000C03 has been configured as a sole distributor with ten outputs, the
loop-through input of Section A is used (IN-A,LOOP-A) and the ten outputs are achieved
by using all five outputs of each section.
If the TTD3000C03 has been configured as an automated switch, the two loop-through
inputs inputs are the inputs to the automated switch and all ten outputs always output
the signal received at the selected input.
14

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual TTD3000C03
Coaxial cabling with a characteristic impedance of 50 or 75Ω must be used to provide
connections for TTL level digital signals depending upon the requirements of the
installation. The output impedances of the distributor module must be configured using
the control software.
Connections to the loop-through inputs must be terminated with a resistance of the
same value as the characteristic impedance of the coaxial cabling used.
The rear interconnection board is not designed to withstand mechanical stress. The
wiring must be fastened properly to the frame where the mounting frame is housed to
prevent the rear board from supporting the weight of the cables.

4.2. Functional description
Each section of the TTD3000C03 consists of one loop-through input and five outputs
with the following elements: a line receiver, a line driver for each output, a two-to-one
selector, a presence detector and a frequency measurement circuit.
The line receiver adapts to the input signal coming in to facilitate subsequent
distribution. Its construction comprises a TTL level logic gate with hysteresis that
guarantees proper operation, including with signals with slow edges.
The two-to-one selector takes in the signals delivered by the line receiver from its own
section and the adjacent section and directs those signals to the output drivers for that
section.
When manual mode has been selected from the control software in order to use the
TTD3000C03 as a distributor, the selectors from each section can operate independently.
If the automatic or semiautomatic modes have been selected in order to use the
TTD3000C03 as an automated switch then the two selectors operate together as one.
Each output has its own driver to isolate it from the others. The output impedance of
these drivers can be set to 50 or 75Ω with the control software.
18

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual TTD3000C03
The signal presence detector and frequency measurement are used to determine
whether or not an input signal is present and if its frequency is as expected. The
information provided by these two circuits is displayed on the front panel and can also
be consulted remotely. Furthermore, when the TTD3000C03 operates as an automated
switch, this information is used to decide which input should be delivered to the output
at a given moment.
The control software can be used to select the failure criteria for the input signals:
presence only, frequency only or both.
The TTD3000C03 provides two operating modes when used as an automated switch
that can be selected from the control software: automatic and semiautomatic.
These two operating modes are similar: if one of the inputs fails the other is switched in
automatically for delivery to all the outputs. If both inputs fail then the last input
selected remains connected.
The difference between the two modes lies in the behavior when the signal from Section
A is first lost and then recovered. In automatic mode the Section A signal is re-selected
independently of the input that was previously selected. In semiautomatic mode, Input
A is only re-selected if Input B fails.

Module remote control and supervision
4.3. Module remote control and supervision
The TTD3000C03 can optionally be remotely controlled/supervised.
In order to perform remote configuration and supervision of the module an optional
TL3000 family remote communications controller must be installed in the mounting
frame.
The main function of the communications control module is to interface between a
10/100 Ethernet port, an EIA-RS232 or an EIA-RS485 serial port and the internal bus of
the mounting frame. The following illustration shows the most common control
situations: from a computer or control panel via Ethernet, from a computer via an
EIA-RS232 serial port and from a control panel via an EIA-RS485 serial port.
Certain communications control modules provide additional, more advanced functions
such as an SNMP agent, logging of status changes of the modules and a Web interface
for remote control, etc.
Software for simple configuration and supervision with a GUI for multiple modules can
be downloaded from the Albalá Ingenieros website.
