Introduction
This document describes the services offered by the 8214 DECT Handset when connected to an
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Rainbow Hub or RingCentral MVP via an Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise 8328
SIP-DECT single base station or 8368 Multi Cell base station.
The Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise 8214 DECT Handset is a compact handset that provides business
communication features.
The compact design, large color screen and navigation button make the 8214 DECT Handset easy
to use.
The 8214 DECT Handset includes excellent audio and battery life. Elegant and robust, the 8214
DECT Handset will suit the needs of any office or industrial employee.
Operating conditions
•The following conditions must be respected, notably concerning the use of radioelectric
frequencies.
•Changes or modifications to the equipment not expressly approved by the party
responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
•To limit the risk of interference, people with pacemakers must keep the wireless telephone
away from their equipment (minimum distance of 15 cm/6 inches).
•It is recommended to follow the standard acceptance procedures before using this
equipment in human safety critical areas (hospitals…).
•DECT equipment can only be used to establish links between fixed points if these links are
temporary.
•The conditions of access to a DECT equipment telepoint network shall be stipulated by
contract with the operator of the authorized telepoint network concerned.
•Your device is IP40 compliant. Do not expose this equipment to severe conditions (rain, sea
air, dust, etc.). Switch off the telephone before changing the battery.
•You must not switch on or use your telephone near gas or inflammable liquids.
•The headset includes magnetic elements that may attract sharp metallic objects.
•To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.
•There is a danger of explosion if the battery is replaced incorrectly.
•Use only recommended battery: Alcatel-Lucent 3BN67332AA (Dongguan DRN New Energy
Co. Ltd. RTR001FXX - Zhongshan Tianmao Battery Co. Ltd. BP1709/A - Li-ion 3.7V 1100mAh
4.1Wh).
•The mains power socket used must be close to the charger/holder and easily accessible, so
that it can be used as an 'on/off' facility.
•Charge the battery for about 6 hours before initial use.
•Use only recommended charging units:

o82x4 DECT Handset desktop charger (3BN67371AA); With the following Power Supply

1.1 Phone description
•Answer the call.

conversation.

LED
•Some LED behaviors depend on the handset configuration (see
chapter: LED management). Define the LED color to indicate a missed
call or a new voice message, to warn of a low battery or to activate the
LED when the handset is on the charger.
•LEDs are activated when the handset is placed in the charger:
oGreen steady: the phone is on the charger and the battery is fully
charged.
oRed steady: the phone is on the charger and the battery is
charging.
•Slow Red flashing: out of coverage.
•3.5 mm, 4-pole jack plug for headset and maintenance (TRRS Standards: CTIA). If
your device is not compatible, you can use a 3 pole to 4 pole jack adapter.
1.2 MENU icons
The MENU is accessible from the welcome screen by pressing the Menu key.
It provides access to all the functions available on your system.
When selected, the icons are displayed in white on a blue background: →.
Contacts:
Manage your personal directory.
Central directory:
Access the company directory.
Call log:
Access the call log.
Messaging:
Consulting your voice mailbox.
Install:
Installation settings (password protected).
Settings:
Access the general settings such as time and date, language, key
programming, etc.
Ring:
Access the ringing, key sound and warnings settings.

1.3 Call icons
Making a call/Receiving a call.
Call is ended.
Loudspeaker on (in conversation).
Mute the audio (in conversation).
Mute on when loudspeaker is active (in conversation).
Call on hold (in conversation).
1.4 Status icons
The status icons are displayed on the welcome screen and indicate the status of the telephone.
Battery charge level ( > > > > > ).
New missed call(s).
Ringer disabled.
Headset connected.
Telephone locked.
Do not disturb activated.
New voice message
New text message(s).
High-definition audio quality.
Encrypted communication.

2Getting started
2.1 Unboxing
•8214 DECT Handset.
•A single charger.

instructions to be read
carefully.
Your handset is provided with a single charger. Dual chargers are sold separately.
2.2 First start-up
Before using your handset, you will have to activate the battery by removing the tab protecting the
connectors.
1. Lift up the cover.
2. Lift the battery to release the tab.
3. Pull on the tab as shown in the picture.
4. Replace the battery in the same position.

2.3 Charging your telephone battery
2.3.1 Charging the battery on a single charger
Put your phone on its support. Plug the USB cable into a 5V socket
(AC/DC adaptor, computer, …).
The AC/DC adaptor is not provided with the set. Please contact your
provider for a recommended AC/DC adaptator.
You can configure how the handset behaves when it is installed on
the charger using the settings menu. Refer to the chapter on
configuring your telephone: Adjusting your telephone functions.
2.3.2 LED
•Green steady: the phone is on the charger and the battery is fully charged.
•Red steady: the phone is on the charger and the battery is charging.
Recharge your telephone battery regularly. The telephone can be on or off when recharging the
battery. If the telephone is to remain unused or out of its charger for several weeks, remove the
battery and store it separately.
It usually takes less than 3 hours to charge the battery to a level of at least 90%.
2.3.3 Autonomy of your telephone
On standby in the radio coverage zone.
Up to 100 hours when screensaver is activated.
Up to 200 hours without screensaver.
In continuous conversation.
Up to 20 hours.
2.4 Switching on your telephone
•Press the switch on/off key.
•Your telephone is switched on.
If the display fails to light up or the battery icon is flashing, recharge the battery.
If the radio reception icon doesn't appear on the telephone display:
•Check that you are in an area covered (if you are not, move close to a radio access point).
•Check that the telephone is properly installed in the system (consult the PABX manager).
If the display indicates: 'Auto install ?', see paragraph 'Registering the telephone' or contact your
installation technician.

2.5 Switching off your telephone
•Press the switch on/off key (long press).
•Confirm: Yes.
•Your telephone is switched off.
2.6 Alphanumeric keypad
Your handset is fitted with an alphanumeric keypad.
•Enter alphabetic characters in a text area: the number pad keys have letters that you can
display by successive presses.
•Press and hold the '*' key while entering text to switch from lowercase to uppercase
or special characters.
oPress once (Abc): to enter next character only in uppercase.
oPress twice (ABC): to enter all characters in uppercase.
oPress a third time (123): to enter numbers and special characters.
•Use navigation keys to move the cursor into the text (except in dial by name feature).
•Use this key to delete the last entered character.
Use cases while entering text:
•: 'space' is displayed.
•: 'd' is displayed.
•(2 successive presses): 'e' is displayed.
•(3 successive presses): 'f' is displayed.
•Long press + (3 successive presses): 'F' is displayed.

3.4 Calling your caller by name (company directory)
This feature is available if a company directory is configured in your system.
Quick access:
•Access MENU.
•Central directory
•Use one of the following:
oPress a key to display the first names (in alphabetical order)
corresponding to the first letter of that key.
oSearch
Enter the first letters of your contact's name.
Confirm by pressing the 'OK' key.
The matching names are displayed.
•Select the name of the person you wish to call.

•Call
Send the call.
•Cancel the operation

3.5 Calling using speed dial key
First, you have to define the speed dial key. See chapter: Programming your personal directory.
•If you have defined a speed dial key (number 2 to 9), long press on the speed-
dial key to call your associated contact.
You are in communication.
•Hang up.
3.6 Calling using call log
Quick access:
•Access MENU.

•Call log
•All calls.
•Answered calls.

•Select an entry.

Call the contact.
3.7 Receiving a call
You are receiving a call. When you receive a call, the display indicates the caller's number or
name, if this function is provided by the fixed system.
•Answer the call (use the off-hook key of the handset or of the headset if
connected).
•Silent
Silent ringing when receiving an incoming call. The handset stops ringing but
you can still answer the incoming call.

•Reject
Decline the incoming call and forward it to your voicemail (if voicemail is
available).

3.8 Placing a call on hold (hold)
During a conversation, you wish to place the call on hold and recover it later, on the same
telephone.
•The call is placed on hold.
•Resume the call on hold.
3.9 Make a second call
This feature depends on the system configuration. If necessary, contact your administrator.
You are in conversation with one contact. You want to make a second call.
•The first call is put on hold.
•Use one of the following:
oDial the number to call.
oCall your contact using your personal directory (Contacts).
oCall your contact using the company directory (Central directory).
or
•Send the call.
•You can talk to the second caller and the first one is on hold.
Select this softkey to resume a call placed on hold.
3.10 Receiving a second call
When you receive a second call during a conversation, the name or number of the incoming call is
displayed.
•Answer the call. The first call is put on hold.

3.11Switching between two calls (Broker call)
You are in communication with the first caller and the second is on hold. You can switch between
the two calls.

3.12 Transferring a call
You want to transfer the call to another contact. You are in conversation with one contact.
•The first call is put on hold.
•Use one of the following:
oDial the number to call.
oCall your contact using your personal directory (Contacts).
oCall your contact using the company directory (Central directory).
You can transfer the call immediately or wait for your contact to answer before transferring the
call.
Transfer the call immediately (blind transfer)
•Transfer the call.
Wait for your contact to answer before transferring the call
or
•Send the call.
•Transfer the call.
3.13 Three-way conference with internal and/or external contacts
(conference)
You are in communication with the first caller and the second is on hold.
•You are in conference with two contacts.
End the conference with all participants.
•The conference has ended.

3.14Forward your call to another number
This feature depends on the system configuration.
•Access MENU.
•Settings
•Call Forward
•Select one of the following conditions:
oForward Unconditionally: forward all incoming calls to another number
immediately.
oForward No Answer: forward all incoming calls to another number if you don’t
reply.
oXUI_TI_FORWARD_BUSY: forward all incoming calls to another number when you
are busy.
•On / Off: activate/deactivate the forward.
•Forward To: define the destination of the forward.
•Forward After (s): If using call forwarding when you fail to answer a call, set the period
of time after which an incoming call will be forwarded to another number.
3.15 Do not disturb feature
This feature depends on the system configuration.
When the 'Do Not Disturb' feature is activated, all incoming calls are forwarded to your voicemail
(your voicemail has to be configured by your administrator).
•Access MENU.

•Do not disturb
•Enabled / Disabled: activate/deactivate the 'Do Not Disturb' feature.
When the 'Do Not Disturb' feature is activated, the following icon is displayed in the status bar: .

3.16Sending DTMF signals
During a conversation you sometimes have to send DTMF signals, such as with a voice server, an
automated attendant or a remotely consulted answering machine.
•Enter DTMF code.
3.17 Locking your telephone
This feature locks the keypad.
Long press.
Unlock your terminal:
Long press.
Depending on your configuration, a password may be requested (see below).
3.17.1 Automatic keylock
The keypad is locked automatically after a timeout.
•Access MENU.
•Settings
•Security
•Automat. keylock
•Deactivate or activate the automatic keylock by setting the duration after which the
keypad is locked: Off, 15s, 30s, 45s, 1min, 2min, 3min, 4min, 5min
•Enter a timeout to trigger the automatic keylock.
3.17.2 Change the PIN Code
•Access MENU.
•Settings
•Security
•Change PIN
•Enter the current PIN code.
•Enter the new PIN code.
