T ese installation instructions are for t e Altecnic 5453 tec nopolymer dirt separator wit
magnet and isolation valves wit compression ends.
Intr ducti n
T e DirtmagIQ Quattro™is t e most effective and efficient dirt separator to date, wit two filtering elements,
firstly a dirt separation c amber followed by a strainer cartridge wit a fine stainless steel mes .
T e dirt separator c amber is manufactured from glass fibre reinforced polyamide 66 wit a ig density
polyet ylene internal filter element and external magnet.
T e magnet is positioned around t e body below t e flow line for improved collection of ferrous particles.
T e strainer cartridge consists of an impurities collector wit in a stainless steel screen w ic can be easily
removed for cleaning.
T e union joint between t e brass body and separator body makes t e DirtmagIQ Quattro™suitable for
installation in orizontal or vertical pipes.
Supplied complete wit brass ball valves, incorporating a swivel connector and compression end complying wit
BS EN 1252-2 for use wit R250 ( alf ard) copper tube.
Supplied ose union ball blow down valve and manual air vent.

If fitting into existing pipework cut out
a section of pipe, as s own, 260mm

pipe and and tig ten t e two
compression nuts.
Slide t e DirtmagIQ™between t e
two ball valves ensuring t at t e flat
sealing was ers are fitted and and
tig ten t e two union nuts.
Tig ten t e two union nuts and t e
two compression nuts to make water
tig t joints, do not over tig ten.

Please read t ese instruction before commencing installation to ensure t e correct fitting position is selected and
sufficient space and access is available for flus ing and any future maintenance.

For orizontal or inclined pipework, loosen t e union nut using t e tool
provided and rotate t e dirt collection c amber until it is vertical.
Re-tig ten t e joint to make a water tig t seal, do not over tig ten t e
union nut.
Open t e air release valve using a suitably
sized screw driver or radiator bleed key
and fill t e system wit water. Once
water starts to escape, close t e air
release valve.
After t e system as been running for
several ours release any trapped air
w ic may ave collected using t e air
release valve.

T e diagrams s ow w ere t e DirtmagIQ Quattro™s ould be installed, w ic is on t e return to t e boiler or
c iller.
Planned Maintenance
As part of a planned maintenance programme t e following procedure needs to be conducted to ensure t at t e
DirtmagIQ Quattro™dirt separator continues to operate efficiently.
Maintenance s ould only be carried out wit t e system COLD.
Debris w ic as been collected by t e
DirtmagIQ Quattro™needs to be removed
using t e blow down valve.
Unclip t e magnet and completely remove it
from t e collection c amber
Unscrew t e blank cap and fit t e ose outlet
w ic is provided.
T e liquid removed from t e system during
flus ing s ould be collected in a suitable
container to prevent water damage, or use a
ose directed to a suitable drain.
Using t e operating key w ic is part of t e
blank cap, open t e blow down valve and run
off water until it looks clean.
Close t e blow down valve and refit t e blank cap.

Planned Maintenance
Isolate t e DirtmagIQ Quattro™using t e two ball valves before
commencing.
T e cap on t e front or t e rear of t e strainer cartridge c amber
s ould be removed using t e tool for t e union joint and t e strainer
cartridge assembly removed. T is s ould be t e grey cartridge and
t e red impurities collector.
Remove t e impurities collector from t e strainer cartridge and flus
bot t oroug ly wit clean water. If any damage is visible replace t e
strainer cartridge (grey) or t e impurities collector wit a new one.
Inspect inside t e strainer cartridge c amber for debris and flus
away.
Inspect t e cap ‘O’ ring for signs of damage and replace if necessary.
Re-assemble, open t e two ball valves to allow t e DirtmagIQ
Quattro™to fill wit water and finally release any trapped air using
t e air release valve.

Initial Flushing
Once t e DirtmagIQ Quattro™ as been installed t e system s ould be flus ed t oroug ly to removed debris.
Reference s ould be made to BS EN 14336 ‘Installation & commissioning of water based eating systems’
In a new installation it may only be necessary to remove t e internal element and c ange t e strainer cartridge
from blue to grey.
Isolate t e DirtmagIQ Quattro™using t e two ball valves before commencing.
Remove t e cap on top of t e collection c amber, using t e tool for t e union joint, and remove t e internal
element.
Flus t e element t oroug ly wit clean water. If any damage is visible replace t e element wit a new one.
Remove t e cap on t e strainer cartridge c amber using t e tool for t e union joint and remove t e strainer
cartridge assembly. T is s ould be t e BLUE cartridge and t e red impurities collector.
Flus t e impurities collector and inspect for damage.
Inspect inside t e collection c amber and t e strainer cartridge c amber for debris and flus away.
Inspect t e cap ‘O’ ring for signs of damage and replace if necessary.
Assemble red impurities collector into t e Grey strainer cartridge before re-assembling, open t e two ball valves to
allow t e DirtmagIQ Quattro™to fill wit water and finally release any trapped air using t e air release valve.

P wer Flushing
If t e DirtmagIQ Quattro™ as been installed into an existing system, t e status of w ic is unknown, wit
sediment and debris collected in pockets t roug out t e system or in a new installation suspected of containing
an excess of debris, it is recommended t at t e system is power flus ed.
A power flus ing kit is available from Altecnic product code F9476.
T e power flus ing pump and c emicals are available from specialist suppliers, t e operating instructions and
procedure specified by t e equipment supplier MUST be followed.
Isolate t e DirtmagIQ Quattro™using t e two ball valves before commencing.
Remove t e cap on t e strainer cartridge c amber using t e tool for t e union joint and remove t e strainer
cartridge assembly. T is s ould be t e BLUE cartridge and t e red impurities collector.
Using t e power flus ing kit from Altecnic Fit t e BLACK strainer cartridge, do not fit t e RED impurities collector,
and fit ball valve wit ose union.
Connect up t e power flus ing pump as s own and power flus t e system.
Once t e system as been flus ed, remove t e power flus ing kit and
fit t e GREY cartridge wit t e RED impurities collector.

Adding Water Treatment
Please refer to BS7593 ‘Treatment of water in domestic ot water central eating systems.
Remove t e air vent from t e cap of t e collection c amber and add water treatment c emical as s own,
following t e instructions of t e water treatment supplier.
Replace t e air vent and open t e two ball valves and start filling t e system.
Open t e air vent to release any trapped air.
C eck joints for signs of leakage.
