installing kit. After installing kit, reconnect power.
CAUTION
!
Toavoidpropertydamage, observe thefollowing:
• Confirmwaterpressuretowatervalveisatleast20
poundspersquareinch.
• Start nuts by hand to avoid cross threading. Finish
tighteningnutsusingawrench(s).Donotovertighten.
• Checkcarefullyforwaterleakspriortoreturning
refrigeratortonormal location and 24 hours after
connection.
Materials Required
Important
• Before connecting ice maker, contact a plumber to
connectcopper tubing to household plumbingin
compliance with local codes and ordinances.
• AmanaAppliancesrecommendsusing a saddle valve.
Do not use self-piercing valve. Amana Appliances is
notresponsibleforproperty damage due to improper
installationor water connection.

*Lengthofcoppertubingmustreachfrom water supply
connection plusan additional8' (2 1/2m)for service loop
behindrefrigerator.Tubingshouldbe soft instead of rigid
andendsshouldbefreeofburrs.

Procedure
1. Turnoffwatersupplytorefrigerator.
CAUTION
!
To avoid property damage, protect soft vinyl or other
flooringwith cardboard, rugs, or otherprotective
materialwhenmovingrefrigerator.
2. Moverefrigerator awayfromwall. Unplugrefrigerator.
3. Seal open end of copper tubing with masking tape to
keep inside of tubing clean. Route copper tubing up to
refrigeratorthrough floororinteriorwall behind
refrigeratorproviding 3/8" (10 mm)holesasrequired.
Coppertubingroute must be above 35°F (2°C) to
preventwater linefromfreezing.
4. Securewater valve mountingbracketbehind square
collaronwatervalveinlet.Attachgroundwireto
bracket with a 3/8" (10 mm) long cutting screw and a
1/4"(6 mm) hexnutdriver.

Toavoid electricalshock which cancause severe

attachedtobothbracket and water valve.
5. Slide end of plastic tubing through nut. Insert anti-kink
spring into plastic tubing. Large coil must face out.
Do not force large coil into plastic tubing. Large coil
preventsspringfromslipping through plastic tubing.

6. Push end of plastic tubing with spring into bottom
watervalvefitting. Tighten nut with pliers.
7. Removelower coveronrearof refrigeratorcabinetby
removingscrews with a 1/4"hex nut driver. Remove
electricalwiringplugfromretainerclampon lower rail
ofrefrigerator cabinet. Connect electrical wiring plug
towater valve spade terminals.Non-polarizedplugs
connect to either terminal.

8. Securewatervalveto 2 predrilled holes in lower rail of
refrigerator cabinet with two 3/8" long (10 mm) cutting
screws and 1/4"hex nut driver.
9. Removewaterfittingcap from inlet water fitting stem.
Push stainless steel insert into open end of plastic
tubing. Stainless steel insert must be flush with end
of plastic tubing. Hold hose clamp open with pliers.
Slide hose clamp over stem of water fitting. Push end
of plastic tubing 5/8" (15 mm) into water fitting stem
and release hose clamp. Confirm plastic tubing is
secure by pulling on plastic tubing.
Bottom Freezer Models
Cut 24" from end of plastic tubing and insert the
stainless steel insert into plastic tube. Secure to
waterfitting as described above.

10. Remove tape fromendofcoppertubing.Putendof
copper tubing into sink or bucket. Slightly turn on
watersupplytorefrigerator.Waterwill be under
considerablepressure.Allow water to run through
coppertubing for 1 minute to flushout copper tubing.
Turnoff water supply to refrigerator whenflushingis
complete.
11. Slidenut and sleeve over end of coppertubing.Insert
coppertubingcompletelyinto adapter fitting. Check
adapter fitting to confirm hose washer is in place.
Tighten adapter fitting nut by hand as much as
possible.Carefullytightenan additional 1/2turn with
pliers. Firmly connect tubing nut on copper tubing to
adapterfittingwith an adjustable wrench. Confirm
copper tubing is secure by pulling on copper tubing.

12. Slightly turn on water supply to refrigerator and check
forleaks.Turn off water supply to refrigerator and
correct any leaks. Repeat this process until no leaks
arefound. Turnonwatersupply to refrigerator.
13. Side-by-Side Models
Slideiceservicerackinfreezertowardfrontoffreezer
until screws are in middle of mounting holes. Gently
pullice service rack away from freezer.Remove
screws from nylon grommets with a 1/4" hex nut driver.
Insert plugs into screw holes.
14 Removebutton plugs from sidewallwith a putty knife
coveredwithmaskingtape. Remove electrical cap on
sidewallwithascrewdriver.Discard plugs and
electrical cap.
15. Pull off water cap on back wall. Slide water fill tube
extensionoverwater inlet tube on rear wall. Water fill
tube extension must fit tightly and be even with hole
in rear wall so water cannot leak into freezer.

16. Remove ice makerfromshippingcartonanddiscard
packing material. Ice maker is shipped from factory
with arm down. This is correct for ice production. Do
notforcearmdown or up.

watercup.

18. Start two 5/8" (15 mm) sheet metal screws in top
holeson side wall with a 1/4" hexnutdriver. Leave
heads out approximately 3/8" (9 mm). Holdice maker
in position. Insert wire harness plug into receptacle on
side wall. Slip ice maker hanger over sheet metal
screws. Ease water cup toward end of water fill tube
extension. Water fill tube extension fits under
stainless steel clip. Water fill tube extension must not
be kinked. Water fill tube extension must extend
approximately 3/8" into ice maker water cup and must
be secured under stainless steel clip. Ice maker can
only be installed one way. Don not drill additional
holes.
19. Install remaining 5/8" (15 mm) sheet metal screw and
tighten all 3 screws with a 1/4" hex nut driver.
20. Replace freezer shelf if necessary.Position ice
storagebucketonfreezer shelf under ice maker.

21. Checkfor leaks at household plumbing connection
andwatervalve.Correct any leaks. Place lower cover
onrearof refrigerator cabinet. Carefully tuck wires
insidecovertoavoid pinching wires. Insert and tighten
screws with a 1/4" hex nut driver.
22. Create service loopusingextremecaretoavoid
kinks. Copper tube must not extend more than
3/8" from back cover. Secure copper tubing at
back bottom horizontal cover using "P" clamp.

23. Plug refrigerator intoelectricaloutlet.Move refrigerator
inplace and level if necessary.
24. Checkfor water leaks 24 hours after installation.

• Confirm ice bucket is in place and ice maker arm is
down.

Ice maker arm position
• Afterfreezer section reaches normal temperature, ice
makerfills with water and beginsoperating. Allow 24-
48hours after installation before firstharvest of ice. Ice
maker produces 7 to 9 harvests of ice in a 24-hour
periodunderidealconditions.
• After ice is formed, ice maker drops ice cubes into ice
storage bucket. During ice production, ice maker arm
raises and lowers. When ice storage bucket is full, ice
maker arm turns ice maker off. Discard first 3 harvests
ofice after initially connecting refrigerator tohousehold
watersupply and after extended periods of nonuse.
• Stop ice production by lifting ice maker arm. A definite
click is heard when position is reached. Ice maker arm
will remain in
OFF
position until pushed down.
CAUTION
!
Toavoiddamage to ice maker,observethefollowing:
• Do not force ice maker arm down or up.
• Do not place or store anything on ice maker or in ice
storagebucket.

Before Calling For Service
Giveicemaker1 overnight period to make ice before
assuming a difficulty exists.
If ice maker is not producing ice
• Confirm ice maker arm is
on
position.
• Confirmhousehold water supply is turned on.
• Confirm ice maker wiring harness is completely
inserted into electrical receptacle.
• Check electrical connections to water valve coil.
• Check for kinks in copper or plastic tubing. Remove
kinks or replace tubing.
• Confirmfreezerisoperatingatpropertemperature.
If ice maker is not producing enough ice
• Ice maker produces 7 to 9 harvests of ice in a 24-hour
periodunderidealconditions.
• Seeabovesection.
If ice maker makes unfamiliar sounds
• Thesemaybenormal. Refer to
“NormalOperating
Sounds”
section in Owner's Manual.
