Introduction
CAUTION
!
Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamage,observe
all safety instructions.
Read entire manual before installing kit. All necessary
tools and materials must be available prior to installation.
Verify all listed parts are included in kit. If parts are
missing, contact source from whom kit was purchased.
• Mechanical experience is required to install kit.
Installation can take from 3 to 6 hours.
• If unable to solve a problem during installation, contact
an authorized Amana®technician. Locate a Factory
ServiceCenter or independent authorized technician by
calling1-800-628-5782 inside U.S.A. and 1-319-622-
5511 outside U.S.A. Service is at owner’s expense.

installing kit. After installing kit, reconnect power.
CAUTION
!
Toavoid propertydamage, observethe following:
• Confirmwater pressure to water valve is at least 20
poundsper square inch.
• Start nuts by hand to avoid cross threading. Finish
tighteningnuts using a wrench. Do not overtighten.
• Check carefullyfor waterleaks priorto returning
refrigeratorto normal location and24hours after
connection.
Materials Required
Important
• Before connecting ice maker, contact a plumber to
connectcopper tubing to household plumbing in
compliance with local codes and ordinances.
• AmanaAppliancesrecommends using a saddle valve.
Do not use self-piercing valve. Amana Refrigeration,
Inc. is not responsible for property damage due to
improperinstallationorwater connection.
1/4"(6 mm) flexible copper tubing*.
*Lengthof copper tubing must reach from water supply
connection plus an additional 8'(2 1/2m)forserviceloop
behindrefrigerator.Tubingshould besoftinstead of rigid
andends should be free of burrs.

Procedure
1. Turn offwater supplytorefrigerator.
CAUTION
!
To avoid property damage, protectsoftvinyl or other
flooringwith cardboard, rugs,orother protective
materialwhenmoving refrigerator.
2. Moverefrigerator awayfrom wall.Unplug refrigerator.
3. Seal open end of copper tubing with masking tape to
keep inside of tubing clean. Route copper tubing up to
refrigeratorthrough flooror interior wallbehind
refrigeratorproviding 3/8" (10mm) holes asrequired.
Coppertubing route must beabove35°F (1°C) to
preventwater linefrom freezing.
4. Securewater valvemountingbracket behindsquare
collaron water valve inlet. Attach ground wireto
bracket with a 3/8" (10 mm) cutting screw and a 1/4"
(6mm) hex nut driver.

WARNING
!

personalinjury or death, ground wire must be properly
attachedto both bracket and watervalve.
5. Slide end of plastic tubing through plastic nut. Insert
large coil into plastic tubing. Large coil must face out.
Do not force large coil into plastic tubing. Large coil
preventsspring from slipping through plastictubing.
Springwill prevent plastic tubing from kinking.

6. Push end of plastic tubing with spring into bottom
watervalve fitting. Tighten nutwithpliers.
7. Removelower fiberboard coverfrom rearof
refrigeratorcabinet by removing screws with a 1/4" hex
nutdriver.

8. Removeelectrical wiring plugfromretainer clamp on
lowerrail of refrigeratorcabinet.Connect electrical
wiringplug to watervalvespade terminals. Non-
polarizedplugsconnecttoeitherterminal.

9. Securewater valve to 2 predrilledholesinlower rail of
refrigerator cabinetwith two 3/8"(10 mm) cutting
screws and 1/4" hex nut driver. Keep plastic tubing at
rightside ofwatervalve.
10. Remove water fitting cap from waterfittingstem.
11. Push stainless steel insert into open end of plastic
tubing. Stainless steel insert must be flush with end
of plastic tubing. Hold hose clamp open with pliers.
Slide hose clamp over stem of water fitting. Push end
of plastic tubing 5/8" (15 mm) into water fitting stem
and release hose clamp. Confirm plastic tubing is
secure by pulling on plastic tubing.

12. Remove tape from end ofcoppertubing.Put end of
copper tubing into sink or bucket. Slightly turn on
watersupply to refrigerator. Waterwill be under
considerablepressure. Allow water torunthrough
coppertubing for 1 minute to flush out copper tubing.
Turnoff water supplytorefrigerator when flushing is
complete.
13. Slide nut and sleeve overendof copper tubing. Insert
coppertubingcompletely into adapter fitting. Check
adapter fitting to confirm hose washer is in place.
Tighten adapter fitting by hand as much as possible.
Carefullytightenan additional 1/2turn with pliers.
Firmly connect tubing nut on copper tubing to adapter
fittingwith an adjustable wrench. Confirmcopper
tubing is secure by pulling on copper tubing.

14. Turn on water supply torefrigeratorandcheck for
leaks.Turn off water supply torefrigeratorandcorrect
any leaks. Repeat this process until no leaks are
found.Turnon watersupply to refrigerator.
15. Slide ice service rack in freezertowardfrontof freezer
until screws are in middle of mounting holes. Gently
pullice service rack away from freezer. Remove ice
rack screws using 1/4" hex nut driver. Insert plugs into
screwholes. Removefreezershelf.
16. Remove screw and electrical andwaterconnection
cover plate on upper back wall with a 1/4" hex nut
driver. Discard electricalandwater connection cover
plateand screw.
17. Slide water fill tube extension over water inlet tube on
rear wall. Water fill tube extension must fit tightly
against hole in rear wall so water cannot leak into
freezer.

18. Remove ice maker from shippingcarton.Discard
packingmaterial.

19. Install straight end of ice maker arm in round hole in
watercup. Insert other end in elongated hole only; not
into round holes in ice maker housing. Ice maker arm
must be even with ice maker surface.

20. Slip stainless steel clip over rear wall of ice maker
watercup.
21. Select ice maker cover decorative insert that
resemblesinteriorofrefrigerator.Removepaper
backingfrom ice maker cover decorativeinsert.
Carefullyposition ice maker coverdecorativeinsert on
icemakercoverandpresson.
22. Remove and discard button plugs fromsidewallwith
aknife covered with masking tape.
23. Start two 5/8" (15 mm) sheet metal screws in top
holeson side wall with a 1/4"hex nut driver. Leave
heads out approximately 3/8" (9 mm).
24. Hold ice maker in position. Ice maker can only be
installed one way. Do not drill additional holes. Insert
wireharnessplugintoreceptacleonrearwalluntil
locking fingers on top and bottom of plug snaps into
place.Slipicemaker hanger over sheet metal
screws. Ease ice maker water cup toward end of
water fill tube extension. Water fill tube extension fits
under stainless steel clip. Water fill tube extension
must not be kinked. Water fill tube extension must
extend approximately 3/8" (9 mm) into ice maker water
cup and must be secured under stainless steel clip.

25. Install remaining 5/8" (15 mm) sheet metal screw and
tighten all 3 screws with a 1/4" hex nut driver.
26. Select ice storage bucket decorative insert that
resemblesinteriorofrefrigerator.Removepaper
backingfromice storage bucket decorative insert.
Carefullyposition ice storage decorative insert on ice
storage bucket then press on.
27. Replace freezer shelf. Position icestorage bucket on
freezershelf under ice maker.
28. Check for leaks at household plumbing connection
andwater valve. Correctanyleaks. Replace lower
coveron rearofrefrigerator cabinet byplacing cover
onrefrigerator.Carefullytuck wires inside coverto
avoidpinchingwires. Insert and tighten screws with a
1/4"hex nut driver.
29. Create service loop using extremecareto avoid
kinks. Copper tube must not extend more than
3/8" from back cover. Secure copper tubing at
back bottom horizontal cover using "P" clamp.

30. Moverefrigerator in placeandlevel if necessary.
Operating Instructions
• Confirm ice bucket is in place and ice maker arm is
down.

Ice maker installation
• Afterfreezersectionreaches normal temperature, ice
makerfills with water and begins operating. Allow 24-
48hours after installation before first harvest of ice. Ice
maker produces 7 to 9 harvests of ice in a 24-hour
periodunderideal conditions.

• After ice is formed, ice maker drops ice cubes into ice
storage bucket. During ice production, ice maker arm
raises and lowers. When ice storage bucket is full, ice
maker arm turns ice maker off. Discard first 3 harvests
ofice after initially connecting refrigerator to household
watersupplyandafterextendedperiodsofnon-use.
• Stop ice production by lifting ice maker arm. A definite
click is heard when proper position is reached. Ice
maker arm will remain in that position until pushed
down.
CAUTION
!
To avoid damage toicemaker,observe the following:
• Do not force ice maker arm down or up.
• Do not place or store anything on ice maker or in ice
storagebucket.
Before Calling For Service
Giveice maker 1 overnight periodtomakeice before
assuming a difficulty exists.
If ice maker is not producing ice
• Confirm ice maker arm is on position.
• Confirmhousehold water supply is turned on.
• Confirm ice maker wiring harness is completely
inserted into electrical receptacle.
• Check electrical connections to water valve coil.
• Check for kinks in copper or plastic tubing. Remove
kinks or replace tubing.
• Confirmfreezer is operating at proper temperature.
If ice maker is not producing enough ice
• Ice maker produces 7 to 9 harvests of ice in a 24-hour
periodunderideal conditions.
• Seeabove section.
If ice maker makes unfamiliar sounds
• Thesemaybe normal. Refer to “Normal Operating
Sounds”sectioninOwner's Manual.

andhandling, or other conditions beyond the

• Providenormal careandmaintenance. Replace

• Payforpremium service costs for service outside

• Pay for service calls related to product installation
