User instructions
Before the first use
When using the coffee maker for the first time, it is recommended to operate it
for 2-3 full cycles without the filter using only water.
1. Fill the water tank with drinking water to the MAX line. Then plug the coffee
maker into the wall outlet.
2. Place the coffee pot with the lid onto the warming plate.
3. Be sure the water tank lid is pushed all the way down and the glass coffee pot
with lid is in place. Press ON to begin. The BREW indicator light will luminate.
4. Continue brewing the water only, until the tank has emptied. Make sure to
wait about 2-3 minutes in between brews so the coffee maker can cool.
Note: The coffee maker may produce an odor and emit smoke when switched on
for the first time, as residues from the production process are eliminated. This is
normal and does not indicate a defect or hazard.
How to brew coffee
1. Make sure the filter is securely in the brew basket inside the coffee maker.
The lid will not close properly if the filter and basket are not in correctly.
2. Lift the water tank lid and place the desired amount of coffee grounds into the
reusable filter. Typically, a cup of coffee is equal to 1 full tablespoon but can
be adjusted to personal taste.
3. Fill the water tank to the desired amount, not to exceed the MAX level, close
the lid completely and plug into wall outlet.
4. Place the coffee pot with the lid onto the warming plate and press the power
button to ON. The BREW indicator light will illuminate RED.
5. The brewing process may be interrupted 2 ways;
a. Pressing the ON/OFF button (must press again to continue brew)
b. Pulling out the coffee pot (must return to warming plate within 30
seconds)
6. All other functions are not available during the brewing process.
7. Remove coffee pot to serve when finished brewing (about 1 minute after
coffee stops dripping).
8. If all coffee will not be served immediately, the coffee can be kept warm on
the warming plate. The coffee maker will automatically shut off after 2 hours
from when the ON/OFF button was pressed, or DELAY BREW has begun. The
coffee maker can be manually turned off by pressing ON/OFF.

User instructions

9. Use caution while pouring coffee out of pot, as contents will be very hot!
10. Always turn off the coffee maker and disconnect the power supply when not

in between brews.

CAUTION: Never leave an empty coffee pot on a hot warming plate, otherwise the

Helpful hints
If coffee tastes bad or weak, this may mean it is time for a cleaning
If coffee maker is not brewing right away, make sure you have allowed 2-3
minutes of cool down time in between cycles
Always use fresh, cold water in the coffee maker.
If coffee is ground too fine, it can cause leaking during brewing cycle
and/or cloudy looking coffee. If water is not coming out from the nozzle
during brew cycle, it may indicate excessive lime scale build-up, see
cleaning instructions for descaling.
For the best coffee taste, buy whole coffee beans and finely grind them,
just before brewing.
Do not reuse coffee grounds, this will greatly reduce the coffee taste and
strength.
It is time to clean the coffee maker when over-extraction causes oiliness.
Small oil droplets on the surface of brewed, black coffee are due to the
extraction of oil from the coffee grounds. This may occur more frequently
if heavily roasted coffees are used.

Cleaning and maintenance
12
Cleaning and maintenance
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the coffee maker is turned OFF and UNPLUGGED before cleaning
or attempting to store the item. NEVER IMMERSE THE MOTOR in water or any other
liquid. NEVER operate the coffee maker without the brew basket in place.
It is important to clean your coffee maker thoroughly after each use to prevent sticky
build ups that are difficult to clean later. Proper cleaning of the coffee maker can lead
to clean, better tasting coffee.
1. When performing any cleaning or maintenance to this unit, be sure to unplug
from power outlet first.
2. Remove the individual parts from the coffee maker base.
3. Wash the parts in warm soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly before storing.

base or run water over the base unit. Dry the surfaces with a soft cloth or paper
towel before storing.
5. Do not use abrasive cleaners on any part of the coffee maker.
Descaling
Note: The 12 Cup Coffee Maker should be cleaned at least once a month or after
every 200 cycles (once a week for areas with hard water). To keep the coffee maker
operating effectively, descaling helps to remove any build-up.
1. Option 1: If using plain white vinegar as a descaler, fill the tank with cold water
and vinegar to the max level on the water tank (the scale of water and descaler is
4:1).
2. Option 2: If using a store bought descaler, for details, refer to the instructions of
the descaler.
3. Make sure the brew basket with the filter is in place and close the lid.
4. Place a mug equivalent to about 1 cup under the brew basket. Press the ON/OFF
button and allow the mug to fill about 1 cup (8oz). Press the ON/OFF button to
turn off the coffee maker.
5. After first brew, unplug the coffee maker and allow vinegar water solution to sit
for 15-30 minutes.
6. Plug in coffee maker, add 1 cup cold water to water tank and continue brewing
the water/vinegar solution until the tank has emptied.
7. Rinse by operating coffee maker with water only, at least 3 times or until vinegar
smell has disappeared.
