TheAmbitCableModemwithEmbeddedMTA(EMTA)provideshigh-speedinternetaccessandtelephonyserviceoveracablethroughyourcableserviceprovider.Thisuserguidedescribeshowtosetupandusethecablemodem.Beforeinstallingthecablemodem,youshouldreadthisuserguidetoensurepropercablemodemoperation.Understand the Cable Modem’ Features
TheAmbitCableModemwithEmbeddedMTA(EMTA)combinesthelatesttechnologyavailableintheindustrytoday.Ambit’EMTAisbasedonDOCSIS2.0andPacketCabletechnology,ensuringcompliancewithtoday’industrystandards.Theendresultisasinglerobustdevicethatprovideshigh-speeddataandtelephonyserviceoveracableline.TheU10C017EMTAsupportsallthehardwarefeaturesneededinaresidentialenvironment.UserscanplacevoiceandfaxcallsusingthetwoRJ-11telephonelines.PCscanconnecttotheInternetusingUSBor10/100Base-TEthernetport(orbothsimultaneouslyifsupportedbyMSO).Prepare Your Area for Cable Modem Installation
Beforeinstallingyourcablemodem,youshouldfirstprepareyourarea.Todothis:1.Locateyourcableoutletandensurethatitislocatedwithinproperdistanceofyourcablemodem,telephoneandcomputer.Besurenottobendthecableasthismaystraintheconnectorandcausedamage.2.Ensurethatthetemperatureintheroomwherethecablemodemwillbeoperatingisbetween0and40°C(32and104°F)Gather Supplied and Required Items

ThereisaLEDtableinsection#2.Installercancheckthetabletoknowwhichstatemodemkept.IfmodemhasregisteredCMTS,PWR,DS,USandOnlinemustbelit.IfTel1isalwaysflashandTel2isalwaysunlit,itmeansthatMTAcannotreceivesavalidofferfromDHCPserver.IfTel1isalwaysunlitandTel2isalwaysflash,itmeansthatMTAcannotdownloadconfigurationfile.IfTel1andTel2areflash,itmeansthattheMTAdoesnotsendRSIPtoCMSyet(waitingforMWDtimeout).

ThischapterexplainstheprocessforinstallingyourcablemodemusingtheUSBport.First,youwillinstallthehardware(cablemodem,USBcable,coaxcable,andpoweradapter).Youwilltheninstallthecablemodemdriversandverifythatthemodemisfunctioningproperly.NOTE: The cable modem’ USB setup does not support the Macintosh
operating system, Windows
95 & NT.
