ther pertinent inf rmati n. T install the l ck, insert the cylinder int the h le in the middle
f the T-handle and push until it st ps. Turn the key until y u hear it “snap." Turn the key
c untercl ckwise ¼ turn and rem ve the keys.
NOTE: The only way to get a duplicate set of keys made is to save the tag
that comes between the keys. This ID # starts with “AC or ACC ####.”
CELLULAR WIRELESS CREDIT CARD SYSTEM (optional)
This feature is an pti nal add- n f r m st American Changer m dels. A separate
maintenance manual is included in y ur packet. Y u MUST call American Changer technical
supp rt at (888) 741-9840 f r setup and perating instructi ns. Pri r t startup in the

Mounting the AC2002/2002. to a Wall
I YOU ARE UNSURE IN ANY WAY IN PROCEEDING WITH THE OLLOWING STEPS,
PLEASE HIRE A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN TO MOUNT YOUR CHANGER OR YOU!
1.
Disc nnect any and all AC p wer g ing t the changer. (Unplug AC line c rd fr m the
P wer M dule B ard and fr m the wall.)
2.
Slide the h ppers ut f the cabinet.
3.
N te: Y u will need t verify with the building c de t see if it is all wable t plug the
changer int a 3-pr ng gr unded utlet. If it is n t, there must be 120VAC run thr ugh
c nduit r ther means t meet l cal c des t the changer. If it is n t required, pr ceed
t step #6.
4.
Let the electrician run the c nduit, install the new breaker, wire and help decide h w the
wiring will enter the changer (fr m the back r the b tt m). This will affect the m unting
l cati n.
5.
After the c nduit has been installed, pr ceed with the m unting.
6.
L cate the 4 punch- uts n the back r side wall f the changer. Using a screwdriver and
hammer, rem ve the punch- uts by striking them fr m the inside f the changer.
7.
Find an appr priate wall int which t b lt the changer. The wall sh uld have studs r be
c nstructed f c ncrete.
8.
NOTE: HANGING THE CHANGER ROM EWER THAN THE HOLES PROVIDED MAY
BE DANGEROUS. EACH HOLE NEEDS A BOLT THROUGH IT TO SECURELY MOUNT
THE CHANGER TO THE WALL. MOUNTING THE CHANGER IN ANY OTHER WAY
MAY RESULT IN THE CHANGER BEING TORN ROM OR ALLING ROM THE WALL,
RESULTING IN PERSONAL OR CUSTOMER INJURY ALONG WITH ELECTRICAL
SHOCK.

6
9.
Ch se a height t m unt the changer, keeping in mind that a handicapped pers n in a
wheelchair sh uld still be able t insert a bill int the bill validat r. (We rec mmend n
higher than 4 feet ab ve the gr und.)
10.
Have s me ne h ld the changer against the wall while s me ne else marks the h les.
CAUTION: THE CHANGER WEIGHS 98 POUNDS; DO NOT EXERT YOURSEL SO
THAT YOU MAY CAUSE AN INJURY.
11.
BE ORE DRILLING THE MARKED HOLES, ENSURE THAT THERE ARE NO
ELECTRICAL WIRES, TELEPHONE LINES, GAS OR WATER LINES BEHIND THE
WALL.
12.
H ld the changer’s back against the wall. Thread and tighten b lts.
13.
Verify that the machine is securely m unted.
14.
If the changer is permanently c nnected thr ugh a c nduit, pr ceed t step #16.
15.
Feed the AC line c rd ut the b tt m r the back f the changer by m ving the “L” bracket
if necessary, and then perf rm the f ll wing:
a. Plug the male end int the AC wall utlet. Do not use an extension cord unless
allowed by the building electrical code.
b. Important: Attach the line c rd clamp t the line c rd. Verify it is at the right length
and that the line c rd is n t rubbing against any sharp edges r is being strained in
any way. Then m unt the line c rd clamp t the studs at the h le. Tighten securely.
Installati n is c mpleted. Pr ceed t the “Filling the H ppers” secti n.
16. In rder t c ntinue, y u will need t purchase electrical cable c nduit, a standard 3-
pr ng AC wall utlet, and 12-gauge wire. We highly rec mmend hiring a licensed
electrician t perf rm the f ll wing:
a. Install the c nduit b x n the c nduit entering the cabinet in the l wer right side f
the cabinet.
b. Secure the 3 wires (h t, neutral and gr und) t the AC wall utlet; the gr und wire
sh uld als be directly attached t the cabinet gr und terminal.
c. Plug the male end int the AC utlet just installed.
d. Pr perly f ld the line c rd t av id sharp c rners and any ther damage.
17. Pr ceed t the “Filling the H ppers” secti n.
Filling the Hoppers
When each h pper has fewer than 80-100 c ins left, the red “Empty” LED will illuminate n
the fr nt f the changer. If y u have disc nnected y ur LED, make sure the range wire is
g ing t the terminal n the LED that has the red wired terminal. Whenever the “Empty”
LED is “ON,” the validator is disabled; and it will no longer accept bills.
1.
Turn OFF the p wer n the Main L gic B ard.
2.
Slide the h ppers fr m the cabinet, and insert the c ins thr ugh the pening n the t p.
There must be at least enough coins to cover the two gold plates at the bottom of the
hoppers (somewhere between 60 and ,600 coins, minimum to maximum).
3.
Slide the h ppers back int the h pper plate. Do not use excessive force!
4.
Turn the p wer switch t “ON.” The “Empty” LED is n w ff, and the bill validat r is ready
t accept bills.

Using the Dump Mode to Empty the Hoppers
1. Open the cabinet d r.
2. Turn OFF the POWER switch.
3. Place a suitable c ntainer in fr nt f the h ppers t catch the c ins.
4. Press and h ld the “DUMP” butt n n the upper right c rner f the Main L gic B ard. Turn ON the P wer
switch. The red LED numbers n the main l gic b ard will c me n all “00000s.” Once the red “00000s”
lights up the SECOND time, release the “DUMP” butt n. If it is n t released within ne sec nd, the
“DUMP” m de is canceled as a security feature.
5. The h ppers will dispense c ins until the POWER switch is turned OFF. If the red LED numbers are n t
c unting up rapidly n the Main L gic B ard’s display, the dump m de was n t accessed. Please try
again.
The Dip Switches
The AC2002 changer is capable f dispensing c ins in many different pay ut m des. Setting the c ins ut per
d llar is c ntr lled by which dip switches are turned “ON." (Refer t Figure 1 f r their l cati n.) F r example,
switch #2 is “ON” n b th dip switches; theref re, the pay ut equals f ur c ins per d llar (tw c ins per
h pper f r ne d llar).

Functional Description of the Series AC2002/2002. Changer
To follow along with this walk-through of your changer, fill the hoppers with coins and turn the changer on.
1. When p wer is applied, the validat r will cycle twice; the ut- f-service LED flashes, then g es ut; the
green LED n the main l gic b ard c mes n steady; and the decimal p int n the main l gic b ard
number display will flicker n nce per sec nd in the standby m de.
2. During the p wer-up m de, the main l gic b ard relay clicks twice, enabling p wer (120VAC) t the
validat r. When this relay is n t enabled, it r utes 12VDC gr und t the ut- f-service LED. With n
p wer t the validat r, the changer cann t accept bills. Since it is n t in the err r m de, the red LED n
the validat r l gic b ard is n steady.
3. When a bill is inserted int the validat r bill sl t, the bill will be pulled inside. The validat r then c mpares
what the bill l ks like t its mem ry. After the bill is validated, it gr unds the 5VDC lines, causing a pulse
al ng the yell w and blue validat r harness wires t pins 5 and 15 f the main l gic b ard. Each pulse
stands f r the am unt f the den minati n validated (i.e., 1 pulse f r $1, 5 pulses f r $5).
4. The 5VDC pulse then travels fr m pins 5 and 15 t the EEPROM chip (ver. DBCG-1”) pin #25. The EPROM
sends a 12VDC pulse t the meter chip (U5) ut pins #21 and 22 ( ne pulse per den minati n validated).
5. The EEPROM als multiplies the bill pulse by the dip switch settings. (The EEPROM reads the dip switch
settings during the p wer-up m de and st res them int mem ry.)

14
6. The EEPROM then sends the h pper pulses ut pin #23 t pins 6 and 7 f the red 12-pin h pper plugs.
These pulses travel thr ugh the purple and br wn wires f the h pper’s wire harness t the h pper’s pins
8 and 12.
7. The h pper turns itself n with the first h pper pulse. The h pper c unts the h pper’s pulses sent fr m
the EEPROM chip n IN3 (pin 12), while dispensing the c ins at the same time. When the am unt f
h pper pulses equals the c ins dispensed thr ugh the c in-c unting ptical sens r, the h pper turns itself
ff.
8. The changer returns t the standby m de with the decimal p int flashing nce per sec nd until an ther bill
is inserted.
Functional Descriptions of Out-of-Service Conditions
Out-of-Service conditions occur for the Series AC2002/2002.1 changer for the following reasons: low coins,
hopper error, validator error, or a blown fuse.
1.
Blown Fuse: an AC p wer spike in line v ltage r a bad transf rmer n the main l gic b ard can cause a
bl wn fuse n the main l gic b ard. If either fuse bl ws, the indicati n is the green LED n the main l gic
b ard will n t light.
a. Replace the fuse. If the green LED n w lights, then there was a spike.
b. If it d es n t light and the fuse bl ws again, the p wer transf rmer is sh rted. T test the
transf rmer, use a v ltmeter set f r hms and measure acr ss the primary (40 hms) and the
sec ndary (1.5 hms).
2.
Hopper Error: A h pper err r can either be a jammed h pper, a bl cked c in-c unting ptic, r a bad
h pper l gic b ard.
a. Indicati ns f r a jammed h pper are that the changer accepts bills and the meter c unts up, but
n thing r n t en ugh c ins are paid ut.
1.
After tw minutes, the EPROM shuts ff the validat r if the c ins are n t paid ut c rrectly. The
“Empty” LED will flash nce per sec nd.
2.
At this p int, the three pti ns pen are t attempt repair n y ur wn, call y ur distribut r, r
return the defective h pper t American Changer.
b. Indicati ns f r a bl cked c in ptic r bad h pper l gic b ard are that the ut- f-service LED n the
utside f the changer is lit and the red LED n the main l gic b ard is lit and flickers ff nce per
sec nd.
1.
If tw f the 3 green LEDs n the h pper l gic b ard are lit, then the h pper l gic b ard is bad.
2.
If there is a c in r f reign bject caught in the c in exit wind w, LEDs #1 and #3 will be lit n
the h pper l gic b ard instead f LEDs #1 and #2.
a. Rem ve the side f the h pper with the five Philips screws. Pull up n the exit wind w l gic
b ard and l k f r the jammed item.
b. Ensure y u have the pins aligned bef re rec nnecting the l gic b ard.
3.
Validator Error: When a validat r err r ccurs, the validat r’s EEPROM shuts d wn the validat r and
flashes an err r c de via the red LED n the validat r l gic b ard. When there is n err r, this LED is n
steady. The validat r nly gives bill pulses t the Main L gic B ard, s the main b ard never kn ws if the
validat r is n t functi ning. Theref re, the ut- f-service-LED will n t light. See the Tr ublesh ting
Guide in this manual f r err r c des.
4.
Low Coins: The l w-c in c nditi n is pr bably the m st c mm n err r. The EEPROM n the main l gic
b ard is c nstantly checking f r l w c ins in the h ppers. This is d ne with a l w current 5VDC signal n
pin #3 f the h pper’s utput c nnect r. The v ltage then travels d wn the h pper’s wire harness n the
white wire t pin #7 f the h pper’s plug. The signal is applied t ne f the g ld l w-c ntact plates at the
b tt m f the h ppers. The 5V travels thr ugh the c ins thr ugh the ther c ntact brass plate t the
h pper’s pin #2. It then g es thr ugh the black wire in the h pper’s harness t pin #10 n the main l gic
b ard. Any interrupti n f m re than 1/2 a sec nd will cause an ut- f-service c nditi n.
a. Clean the b tt m brass plates f the h ppers with steel w l r fine sandpaper. Refill the h ppers and
try again.
