Get your locomotive moving.PresstheDIRECTIONbuttononyour
transformer.Thissequencesthereverseunittothenextoperatingstate.
Adjust track voltageuntilyourlocomotivemovesatyourdesiredspeed.To
increasespeed,increasetrackvoltage.Todecreasespeed,reducevoltage.Tostopthe
locomotive,turn-offtrackpower.
See page 4 for information on locking your locomotive into a single
operational state.
Place your locomotive on American Flyer or S gauge two-
rail track.
Thecurvesmusthavearadiusofatleast20”.
2Power up your locomotive with your transformer.
Your locomotive is designed to operate on 9-15 volts alternating
current.VirtuallyallAmericanFlyerorLionelalternating-currenttransformers
are suitable.
Do not power your locomotive with direct current(DC).
Damage to sensitive electronic components may occur.

Toselectasingleoperationalstateforyourlocomotive(forexample,forwardonly),you
candeactivatethereverseunit’ssequencingfunctionwiththedirectionalcontrolswitch.
Get your locomotive moving in the desired direction, then slow it down without stopping.
SetthereverseunitswitchtoOFF.RefertoFigure1forthelocationoftheswitch.The
locomotiveisnow“locked”intoyourchosendirection.
Whenyounolongerwantsingle-directionoperation,justslidetheswitchbacktoON.
Yourlocomotive’sreverseunitwill“reset”toforwardafteranypowerinterruption
lastingfivesecondsorlonger,regardlessoftheoriginallocked-outdirection.

Push up on the uncoupling weight located directly under the coupler to open the coupler.
Tocoupletwocarstogether,placethemonthetrackwithatleastoneofthecouplers
open,thenslidethemtogether.Thecouplerswillcloseautomatically.

elp your Lionel locomotive lead a long and productive life on your railroad by
maintaining it properly.
WerecommendthatyoupurchaseaLionelLubricationandMaintenanceKit(6-62927),
availablefromyourLioneldealer.Twobasicrulestokeepinmind:never over-lubricate(a
smallamountwilldo),andavoidgettinggreaseoroilonthelocomotive’swheelsor your
track.You’llknowyourlocomotiverequireslubricationwhenvisualinspectionrevealsdryness
onthepartsindicatedinFigure2.Removeaccumulateddirtanddustbeforelubricating,and
always lubricate any locomotive emerging from prolonged storage.

Replacing your locomotive’s lamps
Theheadlampsaresecuredinthenumberboard/headlightlensinsidethecab.Toreplacea
lamp,removethefourchassisscrewsfromtheundersideoftheframe(seeFigure2onpage6)
and gently lift off the cab. Locate the expired lamp and gently pull it out of the socket. Replace it
withLionelpartno.600-8352-311.Toreassemble,reversetheprocedure.

Replacing your locomotive’s traction tires
Someofyourlocomotive’sdrivewheelsareequippedwithrubbertractiontirestoincrease
the tractive effort of your locomotive, allowing it to pull more cars. During the course of
normal operations, the traction tires may become worn out.
Replacement traction tires are included with your locomotive. Follow these steps to
replace a worn traction tire.
• Slidetheoldtractiontireoffthewheelandremovefromunderthetruckframe.
• Positionthereplacementtireonthewheelandworkitintoplacetobesureitisfully
seated in the wheel groove.
Extratractiontires(Partnumber640-8153-177)areavailablethroughLionelCustomer
ServiceoryourAuthorizedLionelServiceCenter.

This Lionel product, including all mechanical and electrical components, moving parts, motors and structural compo-
nents,withtheexceptionofLIGHTBULBS&LED’sarewarrantedtotheoriginalowner-purchaserforaperiodofone
year from the original date of purchase against original defects in materials or workmanship when purchased
through a Lionel Authorized Retailer*.
ThiswarrantydoesNOTcoverthefollowing:Normalwearandtear,LightbulbsorLED’s,Defectsappearinginthecourseof
commercial use, or Damage resulting from abuse/misuse of the product.
Transferofthisproductbytheoriginalowner-purchasertoanotherpersonvoidsthiswarrantyinitsentirety.Modificationof
this product in any way; visually mechanically or electronically, voids the warranty in its entirety.
Any warranted product which is defective in original materials or workmanship and is delivered by the original owner-
purchaser(thiswarrantyisnon-transferrable)toLionelLLCoranyLionelAuthorizedServiceStationMUST be accompanied
bytheoriginalreceiptforpurchase(orcopy)fromanLionel Authorized Retailer*,willatthediscretionofLionelLLC,
berepairedorreplaced,withoutchargeforpartsorlabor.Intheeventthedefectiveproductcannotberepaired,andasuitable
replacement is not available, Lionel will offer to replace the product with a comparable model (determined by Lionel
LLC),ifavailable.Intheeventacomparablemodelisnotavailablethecustomerwillberefundedtheoriginalpurchase
price(requiresproofofpurchasefromtheLionel Authorized Retailer*itwasoriginallypurchased).Anyproductson
whichwarrantyserviceissoughtmustbesentfreightorpostageprepaid(Lionelwillrefuseanypackagewhenpostageisdue).
Transportation and shipping charges are not covered as part of this warranty.
NOTE: Products that require service that do not have a receipt from an LIONEL AUTHORIZED
RETAILER* will be required to pay for all parts required to repair the product (labor will not incur
a charge) providing the product is not older than 5 years from date of manufacture and is within 1
year from date of purchase. A copy of the original sales receipt is required.
In no event shall Lionel LLC be held liable for incidental or consequential damages.
Somestatesdonotallowtheexclusionorlimitationofincidentalorconsequentialdamages,sotheaboveexclusionmaynot
apply to you.
