•STORE IDLE UNIT INDOORS - When not in use, the unit should be stored indoors in
a dry location – out of reach of children.
•DON’T FORCE THE TOOL – It will do the job better and with less likelihood of a risk
of injury at the rate for which it was designed.
•USE RIGHT TOOL – Do not use the tool for any job except that for which it is in-
tended.
•WARNING: KEEP HANDS AND ALL BODY PARTS AWAY from the blades. The
edges are sharp and can cause injury even when the tool is OFF.
•DRESS PROPERLY – Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. They can be caught in
moving parts. Use of gloves and substantial footwear is recommended when working
outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
•DON’T OVERREACH – Maintain proper footing and balance at all times. Use both
hands to operate unit safely.
•USE SAFETY GLASSES – Always wear proper eye protection and use a face or dust
mask if operation is dusty.
•MAINTAIN UNIT WITH CARE – Keep the unit clean for best performance and to
reduce the risk of injury. Follow instructions for service. Keep handles dry, clean, and
free from oil and grease.
•UNINTENTIONAL STARTING – Don’t hold the switch area while carrying the
ReadyHedger®. The unit is shipped partly charged, and may start inadvertently if not han-
dled properly.
•CHECK DAMAGED PARTS – If the Cordless ReadyHedger®experiences a hard im-
pact, check that no parts were damaged and verify that the unit operates properly. Check
for misalignment or bending of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition
that may affect operation. A part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced
by an authorized service center.
•STAY ALERT – Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate the tool
when you are tired.
•DON’T GRASP THE EXPOSED CUTTING BLADES or cutting edges when picking
up or holding the unit. Do not attempt to remove cut material nor hold material to be cut
when blades are moving. Make sure the unit’s switch is off when clearing jammed mate-
rial from blades.
To reduce risk when using charger:
•DO NOT use charger outdoors or in wet conditions; charge inside only.
•DO NOT charge the unit when the temperature is below +40 F or above +120 F. It may
lessen the service life of the battery.
•This unit and its charger are designed to work together. DO NOT charge the Ready-
Hedger®with any other charger and DO NOT use this charger with any other yard tool or
appliance.
•The charger is designed to operate on 120 volts. DO NOT attempt to use it at any other
voltage.
•Store these instructions by folding in half and sliding into the slot in the back of the wall
charging rack.

OPERATIONS
•CHARGE BATTERY PRIOR TO USE – The ReadyHedger®does not come fully
charged when purchased. Before using the unit, the battery must be charged. Before
charging the battery, read safety and charging instructions.

•PROPER RUN TIME AND PERFORMANCE can only be obtained with a fully
charged battery.
•CHARGE TIME – Charging for about 6 hours is sufficient to replenish the battery to a
full charge. Initial use, long periods of inactivity, or storage at extreme temperatures may
require extended charge time.
•WALL CHARGE BRACKET – Before charging the unit, make sure the charge rack is
securely attached to the wall; attach with screws to a wall stud, or use #8 or larger wall
anchors.
To Charge Battery:
1. Plug the charger into a 120 Volt AC outlet.
2. Place the Cordless ReadyHedger®into the wall charge rack.
3. Charge for at least 6 hours.
4. The LED light, on the plug-in-the-wall part of the charger, glows red when the Ready-
Hedger®is “charging” and green when it is “ready to use.” To ensure proper connec-
tion, check if the LED light changes from green to red when tool is inserted into charge
rack.
Charging Notes:
•CAUTION: The charger can only be used with 60 cycle, 120 VAC electricity.
•The charger unit plugged into the AC outlet will normally become warm to touch during
charging.
•SAFE CHARGE – The charger utilizes a 2-step charging technique which charges the
battery fully then automatically switches to a trickle maintenance charge. The unit will
not overcharge and can be left on charge indefinitely.
•Longest life and best performance will be obtained when charging at normal room tem-
perature.
•Battery life is dependent on usage, storage temperature and time.
Operating The ReadyHedger®:
To turn tool ON, slide the thumb switch on top of the handle FORWARD. While holding
thumb switch FORWARD, squeeze the trigger switch (under the handle) to start the unit.
See Figure-1. You may release the SAFETY thumb switch once the unit is running.

To turn tool OFF, merely release the trigger switch. The thumb switch will snap backward
to prevent the trigger switch from being accidentally depressed.
TRIMMING TECHNIQUES
Maintain proper balance at all times. Keep hands away from blades. Wear eye protection
when using the unit. Hold the trimmer firmly with both hands and turn ON. See Figure-2.

•The trimmer works best with dry hedges and bushes but it can be used safely with wet
growth due to the low voltage design.
•A wide sweeping cutting motion away from the body is recommended, and will get the
greatest amount of trimming per charge.

•This unit should NOT be used for large trees and hedges with limbs in excess of 3/8th of
an inch in diameter.
•Watch out for foreign objects. Avoid trimming near wiring or other objects that could jam
the blades or cause a hazardous situation.
CAUTION: If the blades become jammed or stalled on a branch, stick, or foreign object,
release the trigger immediately. Failure to stop the unit when the blades are jammed will
cause excessive battery drainage, shorten the motor life, and trip the circuit breaker
Clearing Jams
After the blades have completely stopped, carefully remove the obstruction
CAUTION: To prevent injury, keep hands away from trigger during clearing of jams. To
prevent injury, do not use the ReadyHedger® with any damaged parts. If the unit continues
to jam, call the service number listed below.
MAINTENANCE
BLADE CLEANING – After you have finished trimming, you may find that dirt
and vegetation have accumulated on the blades. Use a dry scrub brush to clean
debris off of blades. A penetrating oil spray can be used to soften hard deposits.
Turn tool “ON” to help dislodge any deposits.
WARNING: To prevent injury, keep hands away from the trigger during cleaning of blades.
BLADE LUBRICATION – After using the unit in wet conditions, wipe the blades with a
cloth and allow them to dry. Then, with a rag, apply a thin film of light oil to the top and
bottom of blades. DO NOT over oil. Turn the unit ON for a few seconds to work lubricant
between the blades.
LUBRICATION – Aside from blade lubrication, no periodic lubrication of other Ready-
Hedger®parts is required.
CLEANING OF PLASTIC PARTS – Use only a dry brush or a cloth with warm water
and mild soap to clean plastic parts. Many household cleaners contain chemicals, which
could damage the plastic. Never use gasoline, turpentine, paint thinner or similar fluids.
Never spray-wash tool or immerse in water. Water or liquid inside the tool can cause serious
damage to the unit.

CIRCUIT BREAKER – The unit is equipped with a circuit breaker that will protect from
extreme overload to the motor. To reset the breaker, push in the red button on left side of
trimmer housing (in the label).
DROPPING THE UNIT – If you drop the unit, carefully inspect it for any damage before
using it again.
STORAGE
CHARGE RACK – For maximum battery performance, it is recommended that you always
keep the unit stored in its charging rack with the charger plugged in. The special 2-step
charge design of the unit’s charger is designed to insure that the batteries are properly
maintained. If you choose to store the unit “off charge” during long periods of non-use (not
recommended), the unit must first be charged for 12 hours before being stored. In no cir-
cumstances should the unit be left off charge for more than three consecutive months.
TEMPERATURE – Temperature extremes limit the useful life of the battery. The best
storage place is one that is cool and dry. Store the tool away from direct sunlight, heating
pipes, furnaces, etc. Do not store where temperatures go below +40 F or above +120 F.
PREVENTING CORROSION – Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain com-
pounds that greatly accelerate the corrosion of metals. Do not store the appliance on or adja-
cent to fertilizers or chemicals.
BATTERY RECYCLING – To preserve natural resources, please recycle or dispose of
this product’s SEALED LEAD-ACID BATTERY properly. Local, state and federal laws
may prohibit disposal of sealed lead-acid batteries in ordinary trash. Consult your local
waste authority for information regarding available recycling and/or disposal options.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT – To replace battery, open the door on the bottom of the
trimmer by pressing the locking tab, then sliding the door backwards. Please refer to Fig-
ure-3. Once the door is removed examine the wire configuration and polarity direction prior
to disconnecting. Undo the connectors and replace the batteries.
WARNING: When replacing the batteries, the proper polarity or direction must be ob-
served. Reverse insertion of batteries can result in leakage or explosion.
SERVICE
WARRANTY - Your ReadyHedger®offers a two year warranty against failure due to a
defect in material or workmanship. If you experience such a problem, American Gardener,

at its sole discretion, will repair or replace the unit free of charge during the warranty-
period. Proof of purchase is required to validate warranty period.
The warranty does not cover components that are subject to normal wear, such as the blades
and batteries. Replacement parts are available for purchase from the retailer you bought
your product from, or by calling us at [phone] or visiting our web site at
www.american-gardener.com.
In the unlikely condition that the batteries on this product need to be replaced during the
first two years of use, you may purchase replacement batteries direct from American Gar-
dener for a 30% discount to the normal list price of the battery. Please visit www.american-

DROPPING THE UNIT – If you drop the unit, carefully inspect it for any damage before

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Problem: Unit will not charge OR Charger light does not turn green.
Solution(s):
•Inspect charge connectors on unit and charge rack to insure a proper connection is
made.
•Make sure that the circuit breaker has not been tripped. See “Circuit Breaker”.
•Many outdoor or garage outlets in newer homes are protected by ground fault (GFCI)
circuits to prevent electrical shock from moisture. Make sure the charger is completely
plugged into wall outlet and that the outlet is in working condition (i.e. not temporarily
disabled by a GFCI protector).
•The LED on the unit’s charger should turn green after approximately 6 hours of
charging during regular use and 12 hours during its initial charge. After periods of
long storage (without charging the unit) it may be necessary to “awaken” the unit’s
battery. This can be done by turning the unit on and running it for a few minutes.
Once completed, return the unit to the charger rack and after a few hours the LED
should turn green.
Problem: Cutting or run-time performance is diminished.
Solution(s):
•Please follow the trimming techniques described in this manual for best performance.
•The ReadyHedger®should operate for approximately 45 minutes under a full charge
•Inspect blades to make sure they are clean and free of obstruction(s)
•Make sure the unit is fully charged – see the Operations section of this manual for
charging details.
Problem: Thumb safety switch is difficult to hold on during use.

Solution: The thumb safety switch need only be engaged when starting the unit. There is
no need to keep switch in forward position while using the product.
Problem: Unit will not operate .
Solution: Remove the battery door and make sure battery connections are securely
fastened.

GUARDE ESTAS INSTRUCCIONES
FUNCIONAMIENTO
•CARGUE LA BATERÍA ANTES DE USAR – El ReadyHedger®no trae la batería
completamente cargada cuando lo compra. Usted debe cargar la batería antes de usarlo.
Antes de cargar la batería, lea las instrucciones de seguridad y de carga.
•RENDIMIENTO Y TIEMPO DE FUNCIONAMIENTO ADECUADOS serán
obtenidos solo con una batería completamente cargada.
•TIEMPO DE CARGA – 6 horas de carga son suficientes para reponer la batería a carga
completa. El uso inicial, los períodos largos sin uso o el guardar a altas temperaturas
pueden necesitar un tiempo de carga extendido.

•SOPORTE DE CARGAR DE PARED – Antes de cargar la unidad, verifique que el
soporte de cargar está bien asegurado a la pared; asegure con tornillos a una viga en la
pared, o use anclaje de pared #8 o mayor.
Para cargar la batería:
5. Enchufe el cargador a una toma de 120 V CA.
6. Ponga el ReadyHedger®inalámbrico en el soporte de cargar de pared.
7. Cargue por lo menos por 6 horas.
8. La lucecita LED, en la sección del cargador que se enchufa a la pared, ilumina de rojo
cuando el ReadyHedger®está “cargando” y de verde cuando está “listo para usar.” Para
asegurar una conexión adecuada, verifique que la lucecita LED cambia de verde a rojo
cuando inserta la herramienta en el soporte de cargar.
Notas sobre cargar:
•PRECAUCIÓN: El cargador solo se puede usar en tomas eléctricas de 60Hz de
frecuencia y 115-120 V CA.
•El cargador enchufado en una toma de CA usualmente se sentirá tibio cuando lo toque
mientras esté cargando.
•CARGA SEGURA – El cargador utiliza una técnica de carga de dos pasos la cual carga
la batería completamente y luego cambia a pocos de carga de mantenimiento. La unidad
no se sobrecargará si se deja enchufada indefinidamente.
•La vida más larga y el mejor rendimiento se obtienen cargando a temperatura normal de
salón.
•La vida de la batería depende del uso, temperatura de almacenaje y el tiempo.
Funcionamiento del ReadyHedger®:
Para ENCENDER la unidad, deslice el interruptor de seguridad que se halla sobre el
mango HACIA ADELANTE usando su pulgar. Sosténgalo HACIA ADELANTE
momentáneamente mientras aprieta el gatillo bajo el mango. Vea la Figura 1. Usted puede
soltar el interruptor de SEGURIDAD de pulgar una vez la unidad encienda.

Para APAGAR (OFF) la herramienta, simplemente suelte el gatillo. El interruptor de
seguridad enganchará hacia atrás y evitará que el gatillo sea activado accidentalmente.
TÉCNICAS DE RECORTE
Mantenga un buen balance en todo momento. Aleje las manos de las cuchillas. Use
protección ocular cuando use la unidad. Sostenga la podadora firmemente y
ENCIÉNDALA (ON). Vea la Figura-2.
•La podadora funciona mejor en setos y arbustos secos, pero se puede usar en ramaje
mojado gracias a su diseño de bajo voltaje.

•Se recomienda un movimiento de cortar largo y amplio, alejándose del cuerpo, el cual le
dará a usted la mayor cantidad de cortes por carga.

•Esta unidad NO debe usarse para árboles grandes y setos con ramas con un diámetro
mayor de 3/8 de pulgada (9 mm) de diámetro.
•Tenga precaución de objetos extraños. Evite podar cerca de alambres u otros objetos que
puedan atrancar las cuchillas o causar una situación peligrosa.
PRECAUCIÓN: Si las cuchillas se ATRANCAN o se paran en una rama, palo u objeto
extraño, suelte el gatillo de inmediato. El no detener la unidad cuando se atranquen las
cuchillas puede agotar excesivamente la batería, acortar la vida del motor y tumbar el
cortacircuitos.
Para limpiar obstrucciones
Una vez las cuchillas se detengan completamente, remueva la obstrucción.
PRECAUCIÓN: Para evitar lesiones, mantenga las manos lejos del gatillo mientras limpia
las obstrucciones. Para evitar lesiones, no use el ReadyHedger® con ninguna pieza dañada.
Si la unidad continúa atascándose, llame al número de servicio escrito abajo.
MANTENIMIENTO
LIMPIEZA DE LAS CUCHILLAS – Una vez acabe de podar, usted puede hallar que se
ha acumulado sucio y vegetación en las cuchillas. Use un cepillo grueso seco para sacar los
desperdicios de las cuchillas. Puede usar un aceite penetrante para ablandar depósitos
endurecidos. ENCIENDA la herramienta para liberar cualquier depósito.
PRECAUCIÓN: Para evitar lesiones, aleje las manos del gatillo mientras limpia las
cuchillas.
LUBRICACIÓN DE LAS CUCHILLAS – Después de usar la unidad en condiciones
húmedas, limpie las cuchillas con una toalla y déjelas secar. Entonces use un paño para
aplicar una fina película de lubricante liviano por encima y debajo de las cuchillas. NO use
mucho aceite. ENCIENDA la unidad por unos segundos para regar el lubricante entre las
cuchillas.
OTRA LUBRICACIÓN – Aparte de lubricar las cuchillas, no necesita relubricar
periódicamente ninguna de las piezas del ReadyHedger®.
LIMPIEZA DE PIEZAS PLÁSTICAS – Use solamente un cepillo seco o un trapo con
agua tibia y jabón liviano para limpiar las piezas plásticas. Muchos limpiadores caseros
contienen sustancias que pueden dañar el plástico. Nunca use gasolina, aguarrás, disolvente
de pinturas o fluidos similares. Nunca lave con agua a presión o lo sumerja en agua. Agua o
líquido dentro de la unidad puede causar daño grave a la unidad.

CORTACIRCUITOS – La unidad está equipada con un cortacircuitos que la protege de
sobrecarga extrema al motor. Para reconectar el cortacircuitos, presione el botón rojo del
lado izquierdo del armazón de la podadora.
DEJAR CAER LA UNIDAD – Si deja caer la unidad, inspecciónela cuidadosamente
buscando daños antes de usarla de nuevo.
CÓMO GUARDAR
SOPORTE DE CARGAR – Para rendimiento máximo de la batería, se recomienda que
guarde la unidad siempre en el soporte de cargar con el cargador enchufado. El diseño
especial de carga de dos pasos asegura que la batería se mantiene con la carga más
adecuada. Si usted decide almacenar la unidad “sin carga” durante períodos largos sin uso
(lo que no se recomienda), la unidad debe ser cargada por lo menos por 12 horas antes de
guardarla. Bajo ninguna circunstancia debe dejar la unidad sin carga por más de tres meses
consecutivos.
TEMPERATURA – Los extremos de temperatura limitan la vida útil de la batería. El
mejor lugar para guardarla es en un lugar fresco y seco. Guarde la herramienta lejos de la
luz directa del sol, tubería de calefacción, hornos, etc. No guarde donde las temperaturas no
estén entre +40 F (4C) a +120 F (48C).
EVITE LA CORROSIÓN – Los fertilizantes y otras sustancias químicas de jardín
contienen compuestos que pueden acelerar grandemente la corrosión de los metales. No
guarde el aparato sobre o cerca de los fertilizantes o sustancias químicas.
RECICLAJE DE BATERÍAS– Para preservar los recursos naturales, por favor recicle o
deshágase de la BATERÍA SELLADA DE PLOMO-ÁCIDO apropiadamente. Las leyes
locales, estatales y federales pueden prohibir deshacerse de las baterías selladas de plomo-
ácido en la basura ordinaria. Consulte su autoridad local de desperdicios para información
acerca de como deshacerse o reciclar las baterías

REEMPLAZO DE BATERÍAS – Para reemplazar las baterías, abra la puerta debajo de la
podadora presionando la oreja de sujeción y entonces deslizando la puerta hacia atrás. Por
favor vea la Figura-3. Una vez la puerta esté suelta examine la configuración de los
alambres y la dirección de la polaridad antes de desconectar. Separe los conectadores y
reemplace las baterías.

ADVERTENCIA: Cuando reemplace las baterías, debe observar cuidadosamente la
dirección y polaridad de las baterías. Insertar las baterías al revés puede resultar en derrame
o explosión.
SERVICIO
GARANTÍA - Su ReadyHedger®ofrece una garantía de dos años contra fallos debidos a
defectos de materiales o manufactura. Si usted experimenta tales problemas, American
Gardener, a su discreción única, reparará o reemplazará la unidad sin cargo alguno durante
el período de garantía. Se exigirá prueba de compra para validar el período de garantía.
La garantía no cubre componentes sujetos a desgaste normal, tales como baterías o
cuchillas. Piezas de repuesto están disponibles del detallista donde compró el producto

En el caso improbable que la batería de este producto necesite ser reemplazada durante los

EN CASO DE PROBLEMAS
Problema: La unidad no carga adecuadamente o la luz del cargador no cambia a
verde.
Solución(es):
•Inspeccione los conectadores de carga en la unidad y el soporte de cargar para asegurar
una buena conexión.
•Verifique que el cortacircuitos no se ha tumbado. Vea “Cortacircuitos”.
•En muchas casas nuevas, muchas tomas de corrientes en los garajes y fuera de la casa
están protegidas por un interruptor de corto circuito (GFCI) para evitar una descarga
debido a la humedad. Asegúrese que el cargador está completamente enchufado a la
toma y que ésta funciona (i.e. no está desactivada temporalmente por el protector
GFCI).
•El LED del cargador de la unidad debe cambiar a verde después de aproximadamente 6
horas de carga durante uso ordinario y de 12 horas después de su carga inicial.
Después de guardar la unidad por tiempo prolongado (sin cargar la unidad) puede ser
necesario “despertar” la batería de la unidad. Esto se puede hacer encendiendo la
unidad y dejándola correr algunos minutos. Una vez acabe, devuelva la unidad al
soporte de cargar y después de varias horas el LED debe cambiar a verde.
Problema: El tiempo de corte o el rendimiento está reducido.
Solución(es):

•Por favor siga las técnicas de recorte descritas en el manual para mejor rendimiento.
•El ReadyHedger®debe funcionar por aproximadamente 45 minutos cuando tiene carga
completa.
•Inspeccione las cuchillas para ver que estén limpias y libres de obstrucciones.
•Verifique que la unidad esté completamente cargada – vea la sección de
Funcionamiento del manual para detalles sobre como cargar.
Problema: El interruptor de seguridad de pulgar es difícil de aguantar durante el uso
Solución: El interruptor de seguridad de pulgar se usa solamente cuando encienda la
unidad. No tiene necesidad de mantener el interruptor hacia adelante cuando use el
producto.
Problema: La unidad no funciona.
Solución: Saque puerta de la batería y asegúrese que las conexiones de la batería estén
hechas firmemente.
