3. DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT
Introduction
The AMPERE Square PRO is an all-in-one lithium battery based energy storage system, which includes:
the battery
1
, the inverter/charger and the EMS (smart Energy Management System).
For the system to operate with optimal performance and full functionality, it needs to be connected
to the Internet, as this allows it to obtain information about the weather forecast and variable
electricity prices (where applicable). With this information and by knowing the consumption habits of
the user, the AMPERE Square PRO will be able to optimise the charging and discharging of the battery,
allowing it to generate maximum savings in electricity bills.
The system must also be connected to the Internet to access the Cloud platform, where data regarding
the status and operation of the AMPERE Square PRO is recorded, so that the information can be sent
to the application (app) for mobile platforms (Android –iOS). Any alarms from the system are also
logged, enabling remote monitoring and so as to fix any problems that may arise. The monitoring App
is available for the user to download.
The AMPERE Square PRO can be AC- and DC-coupled with renewable energy generation systems. In
the case of new photovoltaic installations, the AMPERE Square PRO runs with its own inverter. On the
other hand, in the case of existing photovoltaic installations (retrofitting) with inverters, the system
detects them and is able to work together with them without losing any functionality. To do this it is
necessary to install an additional Energy Meter or use 2 clamps from the three-phase Energy Meter to
measure at 2 points (house entry and the exit of the existing inverter).
The AMPERE Square PRO is mounted on the wall, using suitable wall plugs. Due to the weight of the
components, two installers are required to install it. The battery is installed when the system has been
mounted on the wall.
For the system to work properly, it is necessary to install an energy meter on the property’s distribution
panel, after the main circuit breakers, so that all available consumption and generation data is
recorded. An RS485-Modbus communications cable must be installed between the meter and the
AMPERE Square PRO. The system can either be installed in a single-phase installation or three-phase
installation connected to only one of the three phases
2
.
The system has an output to power an auxiliary Backup supply for critical loads in the event of a power
outage
3
, provided that photovoltaic power is available or there is a charge in the battery.
1
In AMPERE Square PRO M 0.3 PV and AMPERE Square PRO M 0.5 PV no battery will be included, with the option
of including one later.
2
It is necessary to install a three-phase meter in this case so that the system can make adjustments based on the
power from one or all three phases, depending on the desired mode.
3
After a power outage, the time required for having active the Backup output in an isolated mode, can be up to
180 seconds. The inverter manages this process automatically, ensuring compliance with electrical safety
standards.

•Connectors:
An RJ45 connector is supplied to connect the cable (EMT1 –energy meter) to the AMPERE Square
system’s RJ45 bushing connector, located at the bottom (section 5.7).
This connector is connected to the cable using a crimp tool, as detailed in Annex I.

AMPERE SQUARE PRO S / SQUARE PRO M IM_SQ_PRO_S_M_v001_EN
15
Cables (not included) necessary for installation:
These cables are not supplied with the system, the installer must provide them.
•Meter communications cable (EMT1): use the exact cable detailed below. This cable is
connected between the energy meter and the Square PRO system.
A data cable that complies with the RS-485 Modbus standards is necessary. 3-wire half-duplex is the
mode used. The characteristics of this cable are highly important in ensuring proper operation. These
characteristics are as follows:
-Minimum pair of wires: 1.5 (1 twisted pair and one additional cable for the
earthing).
-Twisted pair shielded cable.
-Recommended cross-section 0.129 mm2(AWG28).
-Characteristic impedance: 120 Ohms.
One end is installed in the energy meter (see Annex I) and the other end is installed with an RJ45
connector that is supplied with the system. Between these two ends of the wiring and close to the
equipment, a 74271222 ferrite (supplied with the system) must be placed, passing the cable a total
of 2 turns through the ferrite, as shown in the following image:
•Mains connection:
3 cables: L, N and Earth, each 6 mm2. It is recommended that these cables are in a sleeve.

AMPERE SQUARE PRO S / SQUARE PRO M IM_SQ_PRO_S_M_v001_EN

•Connection to auxiliary backup supply:
3 cables: L, N and Earth, each 6 mm2. It is recommended that these cables are in a sleeve.
•RJ45 communications cable (for systems with no wireless Internet connection):
RJ45 Ethernet cable to connect the system to the Internet, sufficiently long to connect it from the
user’s router to the device. This cable must have a 74271222 ferrite (supplied with the system) and
this will be given a total of 2 turns with the RJ45 communications cable as can be seen in the following
image, the ferrite being as close as possible to the equipment:
•Photovoltaic plant (only for PV systems):
In the case of the PV version, the installer must use cables that comply with the applicable regulations
and standards to connect the photovoltaic modules to the system’s photovoltaic connection ports.
This connection is made using MC4 connectors.
NOTE: The MC4 cable connectors are not supplied with the system.

Wiring diagrams.
The internal wiring diagram is detailed below, with details of the different types of installations for
each photovoltaic system and number of phases.
Internal wiring diagram:
BT: 3 or 6 kWh battery, depending on the model. Responsible for storing the energy.
INV: bidirectional hybrid inverter. It carries out the conversion between DC current (battery and
photovoltaic installation) and AC current (mains supply and backup). It also manages the flow of energy
between the different components.
EMS: Energy Management System. It controls the system’s charging and discharging strategy based on
the user’s consumption habits, variable energy prices and the power generated by the photovoltaic
installation.
Energy Meter: Energy Meter: This is the system’s main sensor, which is necessary to regulate its
operation.
