Installation
1. Attach provided rubber feet over screw holes on bottom of player
case and place player in desired location.
2. Connect one end of the provided 6 ft. CAT5 Ethernet cable to the
player’s ETHERNET CONNECTOR. The other end must be connected
to an RJ45 Ethernet connector which is connected to the internet. The
optimum connection is direct, with no other device between the
RemoteLink IP and the internet. If you connect the RemoteLink to
another device such as a router and/or firewall, those devices MUST be
configured as specified on the inside front cover of this guide.
3. Connect audio outputs. The player has two separate outputs
(“zones”). Each can store different audio files, and the zones can play
simultaneously. Zone 2 has both line level and amplified outputs, with a
single volume control for both. The amplified output is sometimes
required for compatibility with phone system MOH inputs, and may also
be used to power a small 8 ohm speaker load without needing an
amplifier. Make connections as follows:
A. To a sound system:
Connect the 3.5mm mono male connector of one of the provided 6-ft.
audio cables into either the ZONE 1 OUTPUT or the ZONE 2 OUTPUT
on the player, and the RCA male connector into an RCA female auxiliary
input of the sound system amplifier. If the auxiliary input is a 3.5mm
female connector, use audio adapter 2 to convert the RCA male
connector of the provided audio cable to a 3.5mm mono male connector.
If the auxiliary input is a 1/4” (6.3mm) mono female connector, use audio
adapter 1 to convert the RCA male connector of the provided audio cable
to a 1/4” (6.3mm) mono male connector. If you are not sure what kind of
connectors you have or require, see illustrations below.
To a phone system:
In order to connect the audio output to a phone system, the phone
system must be capable of playing messaging on hold (MOH). Nearly
every business telephone system made in the past 20 years has this
capability. The method for connecting the player to the phone system
varies by manufacturer and model. IMPORTANT! If your phones are not
connected to a central “control box” (a.k.a. KSU, or Key Service Unit),
you will need a special adapter to give you MOH capability. Call AMTC
Technical Support for information about this adapter.
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE MESSAGING ON HOLD (MOH)

AMTC RemoteLink IP Digital Media Player Installation and Operation Guide 5/24/2012 Page 6
Take the path of least resistance! Your RemoteLink IP player connects to
your phone system exactly the same way as any other music on hold
source. If you currently have a radio or CD/tape player playing on hold,
it’s probably connected with a cable plugged into its headphone output
connector. This cable probably has a 3.5mm mono male connector on
the end, which is the type of output connectors used on the RemoteLink
IP player. Simply remove this connector from the radio or CD/tape player
headphone connector and plug it into either ZONE 1 OUTPUT or ZONE
2 OUTPUT of the RemoteLink IP player. If the cable from the phone
system is plugged into an RCA female connector on the radio or CD/tape
player, you will need an audio adapter to convert the RCA male
connector of the existing cable to a 3.5mm mono male connector.
Contact AMTC Technical Support for assistance. If you are not sure what
kind of connectors you have or require, see illustrations below.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE MOH CONNECTED TO YOUR PHONE
SYSTEM:
Connect the 3.5mm mono male connector of one of the provided 6 ft.
audio cables to the player’s ZONE 1 OUTPUT or ZONE 2 OUTPUT
connectors. The other end of the audio cable must be connected to the
phone system MOH input, which is typically located on the KSU. The
cable comes with an RCA male connector, because RCA female is the
most common type of MOH input connector found on phone systems. If
your phone system has a 3.5mm mono female connector, use audio
adapter 2 to convert the RCA male connector of the provided audio cable
to a 3.5mm mono male connector. Other possible MOH input connection
types you may encounter on your phone system:
Screw Terminals
Cut the RCA male connector off of one of the provided audio cables.
Carefully strip back approximately 1.5” of the vinyl outer jacket of the
cable. Inside you will see fine strands of copper wire surrounding an
inner vinyl-jacketed wire. Pull these strands away from the inner vinyl-
coated wire and twist them together to form a larger single wire. Then,
strip approximately 1” of the vinyl jacket from the inner wire, and twist the
strands of copper wire found inside together to form another larger,
single wire. Loosen the two screws labeled as the MOH input, loop each

AMTC RemoteLink IP Digital Media Player Installation and Operation Guide 5/24/2012 Page 7
wire over a screw, and then tighten the screws again. It is not important
which wire goes to which screw.
Terminal Strips (a.k.a. 66 blocks or punch-down strips)
These are not actually part of the KSU, but are rectangular plastic bars
approximately 2” x 10” with rows of metal prongs, by which the phone
lines and extensions connect to the phone system. Some phone systems
receive their MOH input by attaching (punching down) to two rows on
these terminal strips. Unless the original phone system installer was
thoughtful enough to clearly label the proper rows “MOH” or “MUSIC,”
you probably cannot tell where to connect. Even if clearly labeled, proper
attachment requires a special tool. A professional telephone system
technician will probably be required to connect your player.
Connector types:
RCA Male 3.5mm Mono Male
RCA Female 3.5mm Mono Female
4. If an external music source will be used, connect an audio cable from
the external music source to the player’s LINE INPUT using a 3.5mm
mono male connector.
5. Connect power adapter to wall outlet and 9VDC POWER INPUT.
Avoid using any circuit that is also powering any heavy equipment or
appliances, particularly air conditioners or refrigeration equipment. We

AMTC RemoteLink IP Digital Media Player Installation and Operation Guide 5/24/2012 Page 8
highly recommend that you use a quality surge protection device to
protect your player. The STATUS LIGHT will flash red/green. NOTE: No
action is required in the event of a power failure. The player’s internal
memory will not lose its contents. When power is restored, the player
will resume its operation.
Assuming your audio output connection(s) is(are) correct, when you
connect power you should hear three short diagnostic tones, followed by
one tone of a higher pitch. This indicates that the RemoteLink has
connected to your network. It does NOT indicate that the player has
connected to our servers via the internet. Immediately following the
diagnostic tones, the RemoteLink will attempt to connect to our servers
to download its initial configuration and audio files. If the connection to
our servers is successful, the player’s STATUS LIGHT should turn red,
indicating that the player is in downloading mode. This initial download
should take just a few minutes. When completed, the STATUS LIGHT
should begin blinking green, and the player should begin to play a
“Welcome. Please activate.” file.
If the described sequence does not occur, and instead the player emits a
diagnostic tone approximately once per minute, this indicates that the
player is unable to connect to our servers via the internet. This is most
likely due to a configuration error in a router and or firewall to which the
player is connected.
Activation
To activate your player, visit www.amtc.com/activate. Activation will
occur within one hour of your request, Monday-Friday 9a-5p.
Operation
Selecting Audio Content
Selection of music and/or messaging for each of the player’s output
zones, and for dayparts within each zone, is done via your account at
my.amtc.com. Use of the website is outside the scope of this guide. If
you have difficulty, consult the website Support section or call AMTC
Customer Support.
Your RemoteLink IP automatically connects to (“polls”) our servers when
it initializes (powers on), and then every 24 hours thereafter. Each time,
it downloads a configuration file. This file contains a list of audio files to
be played (a “playlist”) for each zone and daypart you have programmed
via the website, as well as various player settings you control via the
website. If a playlist requires files that are not already stored in the

AMTC RemoteLink IP Digital Media Player Installation and Operation Guide 5/24/2012 Page 9
player’s memory, the player automatically downloads from our servers
the required files. To conserve memory, the player also deletes any
audio files not required by that day’s playlist. Until your player is
activated, the configuration file contains one playlist containing a single
audio file (the “Welcome. Please activate.” file).
If the only file(s) downloaded is(are) the configuration file and/or
messaging files, downloading will take just a few minutes. If your player
is subscribed to a background music service, a channel playlist is
approximately eight hours. If you select different music channels for the
two output zones, there are two eight-hour playlists. If you select
different music channels for each of the two dayparts in an output zone,
you add an additional eight-hour playlist. If you do this in both output
zones, you have a total of four eight-hour playlists. Downloading occurs
at a rate of 30 minutes for each hour of content. Therefore, an eight-
hour playlist takes four hours to download. However, this occurs only
when you initially select a music channel for a zone and/or daypart, or if
you subsequently change that channel selection. Channel playlists
change by 20% each day. Therefore, the typical daily download time per
channel playlist is approximately 90 minutes.
NOTE: When the player is in download mode, playback of audio is
suspended. So that this does not result in interruption of service during
business hours, the RemoteLink IP may be set to poll only during non-
business hours. This setting is made via the website. When setting this
polling “window”, ensure that you provide a window long enough for the
download to complete, based on the download length guidelines
described in the previous paragraph.
If at any time you desire changes you have made via the website to take
effect immediately (rather than waiting for the next poll), simply
disconnect and then reconnect the player’s power. This causes the
player to reinitialize and then poll our servers immediately.
Using an External Music Source
The RemoteLink IP may be used in conjunction with an external music
source. Used in this mode, the player periodically mutes the external
music source, plays an audio file, and then restores the external music
source to its previous level. The player will repeat this process using all
of the files in its memory, and then return to the beginning of the files and
repeat the process. The duration of the interval between files is set via
the website.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Most businesses must pay music royalties if they
play music over a sound system on their premises. AMTC can provide

AMTC RemoteLink IP Digital Media Player Installation and Operation Guide 5/24/2012 Page 10
an inexpensive commercial-free music service, with all royalties included,
that can be played on your RemoteLink IP. Please contact us for
information.
Adjusting Volume
If your RemoteLink IP is connected to your phone system, call from one
line to another and have someone place you on hold. Adjust the
OUTPUT VOLUME (clockwise to increase) for the output zone being
used to the desired level using the provided screwdriver. If the volume
remains too low, use the ZONE 2 AMP OUTPUT. This output is amplified
to provide the stronger signal required by some phone systems.
If your RemoteLink IP is connected to a PA amplifier, volume should be
controlled using the PA amplifier.
If an external music source is connected, its volume should be adjusted
to match the volume of the files played by the RemoteLink IP. While the
RemoteLink IP is playing, adjust the LINE INPUT VOLUME so that the
external audio source cannot be heard. After the RemoteLink IP has
finished playing its file, the external music source’s volume should
increase automatically to approximately the same level as that of the
RemoteLink IP. This may require several adjustments of the LINE INPUT
VOLUME before the levels of the RemoteLink IP and the external music
source are equalized.
Troubleshooting:
Player does not power on
The power adapter is not properly connected to the input connector, or
not plugged into a live wall outlet.
No audio/Intermittent audio/Scratchy audio
Check connections between the audio cables/adapters, the player and
the phone system/PA amplifier.
Distorted audio
The player's audio output level may be overloading the input of the
phone system/PA amplifier. Reduce output level of player.
Audio level too low
The player's audio output level may be insufficient for the phone
system/PA amplifier. Increase output level of player or switch ZONE 2
AMP OUTPUT .
