1
This car bed is designed to transport small infants lying down supine on their back
or if medically necessary, prone on their stomach or on their right side.
Before releasing an infant to be transported in this car bed, an infant born
prematurely must be evaluated per the American Academy of Pediatrics
recommendations for “Safe Transportation of Premature and Low Birth Weight
Infants” (RE9617).
Infants should be positioned supine, on the back facing up, unless the specific
medical needs of the infant require positioning them prone on their stomach or on
their right side. Infants should never be positioned on their left side in this product.
•Positioning infant on right side:
When positioned on their side, padding should be used under infant’s head to
support head and maintain an open airway. The pediatrician or hospital
designated medical staff must evaluate the infant and define the padding
necessary. Padding should be minimized and firm to avoid potential
re-breathing issues which could lead to suffocation.
❃MESSAGE TO PEDIATRICIANS AND MEDICAL STAFF
2
Pediatrician or hospital designated medical staff must educate the parent or
caregiver on how to properly position and monitor infant in car bed.
•Positioning infant on right side:
Educate the parent or caregiver how to properly pad under the head and advise
them that padding should be minimized and firm to avoid potential
re-breathing and potential suffocation issues.
-DONOT use pillows or other soft items to pad under the head. Soft items
can present potential for re-breathing air and could lead to suffocation.
-DONOT add padding under the infant between the torso and car bed pad
or between the torso and the harness that could lead to ejection in a crash.
•Monitoring infant:
Educate parents and caregivers that due to the special medical needs of a
premature and/or low birth weight infant the condition of the infant must be
monitored at all times while in car bed. For infants positioned on their stomach
or right side, an adult must be restrained in a seating position next to the car
bed to allow visual monitoring and listening to the infant at all times.

3
Failure to follow the instructions and car bed labels can result in
infant striking the vehicle’s interior during a sudden stop or crash.
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
•Secure child restraint with a vehicle seat belt as shown in this
manual. Vehicle seat belt system MUST hold car bed securely.
•Always secure infant and snugly adjust harness straps. DO NOT
place padding or blankets under harness straps or infant.
•Use car bed only on rear vehicle seats which are forward-facing.
Never use on front vehicle seats with an air bag, seating
locations on driver’s side of vehicle, or vehicle seats which face
the side or rear of the vehicle.
•Parent or caregiver must monitor infant’s condition at all times
while in car bed.
•Use only parts or accessories made by AngelGuard. Parts or
accessories from other manufacturers could alter the safety of
the car bed.
•Properly secure medical equipment outside of car bed.
WARNING
4
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
•Check that car bed is not damaged or missing parts.
•Replace car bed after a crash. Never use car bed again.
To prevent serious injury or death from strangulation, suffocation, or
from falls or tipping over:
•Never leave infant unattended in car bed even when sleeping.
•Always securely adjust harness straps. Never leave harness straps
loose or unfastened.
•Only use car bed in vehicle. Car bed MUST be secured by vehicle
seat belt.
•DO NOT use car bed outside vehicle, in home, or on shopping
cart.
•DO NOT add blankets or pillows under infant. DO NOT cover
ventilation slots.
WARNING
No child restraint can guarantee protection from injury in every situation,
but proper use helps reduce the risk of serious injury or death.

❃SAFETY CHECK LIST
9
A preterm or low birth weight infant requires special care and may be at special risk
traveling in a vehicle. Consult physician or designated medical staff about
positioning and transportation requirements before you and infant leave the
hospital.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that premature infants born
at less than 37 weeks gestation be monitored for possible apena, bradycardia, or
oxygen desaturation before leaving the hospital. An infant with documented
desaturation, apnea, or bradycardia in a semi-upright position should travel in a
supine or prone position. The AAP also recommends that families minimize travel
for these infants.
This car bed is designed for use by an infant whose:
•Weight is less than 9 lbs (4.1 kg) and height is less than 20 inches (51 cm).
This car bed is not designed to protect an infant who exceeds these limits.
•Physical size allows the harness to be snugly adjusted (see page 23).
•Do not use car bed if harness can not be adjusted to snugly fit child with one
finger clearance (see page 23).
Once infant outgrows car bed, consult physician about transferring infant into
rear-facing child restraint or another special need product for a larger infant.
❃HEIGHT & WEIGHT LIMITS
10
❃CHOOSING VEHICLE SEATING LOCATION
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
•Never use car bed in front seat location with an air bag.
Child’s head or neck may be seriously injured if inflating air
bag hits car bed.
•Never use car bed in a vehicle seating location on driver’s side
of vehicle.
•Only use vehicle seat location where vehicle seat belt system
will hold car bed securely.
•According to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in rear
vehicle seating locations, rather than in front seating locations.
•Read vehicle owner’s manual or contact vehicle manufacturer to be sure
manufacturer permits child restraint use in seating location selected.
•To reduce the risk of head and neck injuries, the car bed should be positioned
such that the child’s head is near the center of the vehicle.
•DO NOT use a vehicle seating location which will place child’s head near door or
side of vehicle.
WARNING

Acceptable Seating Locations:
•Rear Vehicle Seat:
-Only use rear center (C) and rear passenger
side (P) seating locations.
Acceptable Seating Locations - Additional Information:
-Some vehicle seat belts in the center rear seating
location may be too short to fit around car bed.
DO NOT use a belt extender. Move car bed to
another seating location on passenger side of vehicle.
-Only use vehicle seats with seat backs that are locked
in an upright position. Check that seat back is locked.
-When possible, keep location next to infant’s head clear
of passengers or any objects such as child restraints,
vehicle arm rests, boxes, groceries and medical
equipment.

❃VEHICLE SEAT BELTS
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
•Car bed must be held securely at all times by a vehicle seat belt
(or lap belt portion of a lap/shoulder belt) that will stay secure
while driving.
•DO NOT use vehicle seat belt systems that will not securely hold
the car bed at all times.
WARNING
Carefully read this section for information on vehicle seat belt systems and also
refer to vehicle owner’s manual and any labels on vehicle’s seat belt. If you are
unsure whether vehicle seat belts are safe to use with the car bed, contact vehicle
manufacturer or call AngelGuard at 1-330-723-5928.
Vehicle Seat Belt Systems Suitable For Use With Car Bed:
The following vehicle seat belt systems can be used with the car bed if the seat
location meets all other requirements in these instructions and the requirements in
vehicle owner’s manual.
Vehicle Lap Belts:
•Manually adjustable lap belt - manually adjustable
and stays tight.
This type of vehicle seat belt is tightened by pulling
on the excess belt once it is buckled. This type of
vehicle seat belt is most often found in rear center
seating locations .
•Lap belt with automatic locking retractor -
automatically adjusts length but cannot lengthen
once it is buckled.
This belt has an automatic locking retractor (A.L.R.)
that does not allow the vehicle seat belt to lengthen
without unbuckling the vehicle seat belt and starting
over .
25

2
Lap/Shoulder Belts:
•Lap/shoulder combination belt with locking latch plate.
Once it is buckled, this type of vehicle seat belt has a
latch plate that will not allow the lap portion of the
lap/shoulder belt to loosen. This vehicle seat belt does
not require a locking clip .
•Lap/shoulder combination belt with a latch plate
that can slide freely along the vehicle seat belt.
This vehicle seat belt requires a locking clip, unless
vehicle seat belt can be converted in another way as
described in the vehicle owner’s manual. See vehicle
owner’s manual to find out if vehicle seat belt can be
converted to prevent movement of the lap portion
of the seat belt. Otherwise, the locking clip MUST
be used .
To install locking clip (stored on back of car bed):
-Install car bed and tighten vehicle seat belt.
-Hold vehicle seat belts together at latch plate and
unbuckle.

Seat Belt Systems NOT Suitable For Car Beds:
Lap Belt:
•DO NOT use a lap belt that stays loose and can
move until it locks in a sudden stop or crash .
This vehicle seat belt has an Emergency Locking Retractor
(E.L.R.). It is often seen in combination with a motorized
shoulder belt. Since these lap belts will loosen if pulled on
slowly, the car bed may shift to an unsafe position. This
vehicle seat belt will NOT safely restrain the car bed.
NOTE: You may be able to convert your E.L.R. belt to one that is safe to use.
See vehicle owner’s manual for more information or contact vehicle
manufacturer.
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
•DO NOT use the following types of vehicle seat belt systems with
the car bed. They will not hold the car bed securely in place.
•The metal locking clip provided with this product will NOT make
any of these vehicle seat belts safe to use.
WARNING
6
6
Lap/Shoulder Belt:
•DO NOT use a lap/shoulder combination belt where
each strap has a retractor at one end and is sewn to
the latch plate at the other end of the belt unless
the lap belt can be locked in position.
If the lap belt can not be locked when adjusted around
the car bed, refer to vehicle owner’s manual for information
on use of the lap belt. This vehicle seat belt will NOT
safely restrain the car bed.
•DO NOT use a vehicle seat belt that is attached to
the door in any way .
This type of vehicle seat belt is designed to open with
the door and automatically surround the passenger when
the door is closed. This vehicle seat belt will NOT safely
restrain the car bed.
•Some vehicle seat belts that are anchored forward of the
seat bight (seat crease) will not hold the car bed securely.
DO NOT use a vehicle seat belt that is anchored forward
of the seat bight (seat crease) unless it holds the car bed
securely .
