Infant Car Bed
Para instrucciones en Español, llamar al: 1-330-723-592
or online at www.angel-guard.com
1
This car bed is designed to transport small infants lying down supine (on their back)
or if medically necessary, prone (on their stomach) or on their right side.
Before releasing an infant to be transported in this car bed, an infant born
prematurely must be evaluated per the American Academy of Pediatrics
recommendations for “Safe Transportation of Premature and Low Birth Weight
Infants”.
Infants should be positioned supine (on the back facing up) unless the specific
medical needs of the infant require positioning them prone (on their stomach) or on
their right side. Infants should never be positioned on their left side in this product.
• Positioning infant on right side:
When positioned on their side, padding should be used under infant’s head
to support head and maintain an open airway. The pediatrician or hospital
designated medical staff must evaluate the infant and define the padding
necessary. Padding should be minimized and firm to avoid potential
re-breathing issues which could lead to suffocation.
>MESSAGE TO PEDIATRICIANS AND MEDICAL STAFF
2
Pediatrician or hospital designated medical staff must educate the parent or
caregiver on how to properly position and monitor infant in car bed.
• Positioning infant on right side:
Educate the parent or caregiver how to properly pad under the head and advise
them that padding should be minimized and firm to avoid potential
re-breathing and potential suffocation issues.
- DO NOT use pillows or other soft items to pad under the head. Soft items
can present potential for re-breathing air and could lead to suffocation.
- DO NOT add padding under the infant between the torso and car bed pad
or between the torso and the harness that could lead to ejection in a crash.
• Monitoring infant:
Educate parents and caregivers that due to the special medical needs of a
premature and/or low birth weight infant the condition of the infant must be
monitored at all times while in car bed. For infants positioned on their stomach
or right side, an adult must be restrained in a seating position next to the car
bed to allow visual monitoring and listening to the infant at all times.

A preterm or low birth weight infant requires special care and may be at special risk
traveling in a vehicle. Consult physician or designated medical staff about
positioning and transportation requirements before you and infant leave the
hospital.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that premature infants born
at less than 37 weeks gestation be monitored for possible apnea, bradycardia, or
oxygen desaturation before leaving the hospital. An infant with documented
desaturation, apnea, or bradycardia in a semi-upright position should travel in a
supine or prone position. The AAP also recommends that families minimize travel for
these infants.
This car bed is designed for use by an infant whose:
• Weight is less than 9 lbs (4.1 kg) and height is less than
21.5 inches (54.6 cm). This car bed is not designed to
protect an infant who exceeds these limits.
• Physical size allows the harness to be snugly adjusted
(see page 23).
• Do not use car bed if harness can not be adjusted to snugly
fit child with maximum one finger clearance between harness
and child’s shoulder (see page 23).
Once infant outgrows car bed, consult physician about transferring infant into
rear-facing child restraint or another special needs product for a larger infant.

>HEIGHT & WEIGHT LIMITS

Acceptable Seating Locations:
• Rear Vehicle Seat:
- Only use rear center (C) and rear passenger
side (P) seating locations.
Acceptable Seating Locations Additional Information:
- Some vehicle seat belts in the center rear seating
location may be too short to fit around car bed.
DO NOT use a belt extender. Move car bed to
another seating location on passenger side of vehicle.
- Only use vehicle seats with seat backs that are locked
in an upright position. Check that seat back is locked.
- When possible, keep location next to infant’s head clear
of passengers or any objects such as child restraints,
vehicle arm rests, boxes, groceries and medical
equipment.

Vehicle Seat Belt Systems Suitable For Use With Car Bed:
The following vehicle seat belt systems can be used with the car bed if the seat
location meets all other requirements in these instructions and the requirements in
vehicle owner’s manual.
Vehicle Lap Belts:
•Manually adjustable lap belt - manually
adjustable and stays tight.
This type of vehicle seat belt is tightened by pulling
on the excess belt once it is buckled. This type of
vehicle seat belt is most often found in rear center
seating locations.
•Lap belt with automatic locking et acto -
automatically adjusts length but cannot lengthen
afte it is buckled.
This belt has an automatic locking retractor (A.L.R.)
that does not allow the vehicle seat belt to lengthen
without unbuckling the vehicle seat belt and starting
over.
25

Vehicle Lap/Shoulder Belts:
•Lap/shoulde combination belt with locking latch
plate .
Once it is buckled, this type of vehicle seat belt has a
latch plate that will not allow the lap portion of the
lap/shoulder belt to loosen. This vehicle seat belt does
not require a locking clip.
•Lap/shoulde combination belt with a latch plate
that can slide f eely along the vehicle seat belt .
This vehicle seat belt requires a locking clip, unless
vehicle seat belt can be converted in another way to
lock the lap belt. See vehicle owner’s manual to find
out if vehicle seat belt can be converted to prevent
movement of the lap portion of the seat belt. Otherwise,
the locking clip MUST be used.
To install locking clip (stored on back of car bed):
Install car bed and tighten vehicle seat belt.
- Hold vehicle seat belts together at latch plate and
unbuckle.
- Slide locking clip on seat belts approximately
1/2 inch (1 cm) away from latch plate .

WARNING
After infant has outgrown car bed, the car bed may be used again for another
infant provided the following guidelines are followed:
Guidelines for reuse of car bed:
• Confirm that car bed has not been in a vehicle crash.
• The product must be thoroughly cleaned according to the “Care and Cleaning”
section in this manual.
• The harness must be replaced.
• AngelGuard recommends replacement of the pad.
Premature and low birth weight infants require special care and medications. Due
to the cleaning limitations of the harness, it must be replaced for each new infant.
The pad can be laundered however AngelGuard recommends replacing the pad for
each new infant.
34
DO NOT use car bed if:
• Parts are missing, including the instruction manual.
• The car bed has been in a vehicle crash.
• Car bed has been modified or damaged.
• Today’s date is after the “Do Not Use Date” on the bottom of the
car bed.
31
Warm W ath r
Car bed parts can get very hot in the sun or warm weather. Cover car bed with a
blanket to prevent exposure to the sun when not occupied. Remove blanket before
placing infant in car bed.
To avoid burns, always check temperature of all components before putting infant in
car bed.
LATCH (Lowe Ancho age and Tethe fo CHild en)
The National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) has defined
requirements for an anchorage system for installing car seats,
called LATCH. See the LATCH Anchorage System symbol or the
LATCH Lower Anchor symbol, shown at right, in your vehicle.
The NHTSA has exempted infant car beds from LATCH System
requirements.
AngelGuard has not found the LATCH system to offer benefits
for ease of installation for this car bed design compared to
installation with a vehicle seat belt. AngelGuard does not make
a LATCH belt available for use with the car bed at this time.
For assistance with installation or to report a problem with installation
in a vehicle, contact AngelGuard by calling 1-330-723-592 or log onto
