containsinformationandwarningswhichhavetobe
followedbytheusertoensuresafeoperationandtoretain
theapparatusinsafecondition.
Beforeswitchingtheapparatuson,makesurethatitisset

Thisapparatusisdesignedforstirrerspeedcontrolin
bioprocesses;itmustnotbeusedforotherpurposes!
Caution:
Anyinterruptionoftheprotectiveconductorinsideor
outsidetheapparatuswillmaketheapparatusdangerous.
Intentionalinterruptionisprohibited.
Anyadjustment,maintenanceandrepairoftheopened
apparatusundervoltageshallbeavoidedasfaras
possibleand,ifinevitable,mustonlybecarriedoutby
qualifiedpersonnel.

CHAPTER 1
THESTIRRERMOTOR
1.1GENERAL:
ThischapterdescribesfivedifferentDCpermanentmagnetmotorsforADIbioreactors.
Adirectcurrenttachogenerator,present in themotor, is used for feedback to themotor
controller;thisfeedbacksignal(speed) is alsopresentasananalogoutput(0 - 10V)onthe
controller.
Thestirrermotorcomeswithfourmotorstuds tofitin thestirrerassemblyand a covered
(flexible)couplingforktoavoidnoiseandvibrationsduringoperation.
Notoolsarerequiredtomountthestirrermotorontopofthestirrerassembly.
Warning:
-Thestirrermotoris a machinewithpotentialhazard(moving
parts).
Inordertoavoiddangeroussituations,makesurethatthe
stirrermotor is onlyoperatedwhen itis properlyseated in
thestirrerassemblyoftheADIautoclavablebioreactor.
-Thestirrermotormustonlybeusedaspartofa BioProcess
(bioreactorwithcontrolsystems); it thereforecomeswith
suppliersdeclarationofconformityoftypelibregardingthe
EuropeanCommunitylegislationonmachinery!Thestirrer
motormustnotbeputintoserviceuntilthemachineryinto
which itistobe incorporated has beendeclared tobe
conformmachinerydirective89/392/EEGand91/368/EEG.

Note:
Thecombination ofa stirrermotorand a motorcontroller is calibrated;for
accuratereproducibilityofthestirrerspeed,thiscombinationmustbekept
together.
1.4MAINTENANCE:
Thestirrermotor is virtuallymaintenancefree. The onlypartsthatrequireregularmaintenance
are the carbonbrushes andthe ballbearings. The lifespan ofthe carbonbrushesdepends on
theoperatingconditions(normallyapprox.6000operatinghours).Minimumlength ofthe
carbonbrush: - Carbonbrush for motor: 9 mm,
-Carbonbrush for tacho: 6 mm.
Operating the stirrermotorwithworn-outcarbonbrusheswillcauseirreversibledamage!
Thestirrermotorshould be servicedevery12,000 - 15,000operatinghours;revision
instructions and spareparts are listed inthe correspondingmaintenancedatasheets(MDS).

TheADI1032standalonestirrerspeedcontrollercanbeused as anindividualstirrerspeed
controlleror in combinationwith a controllerliketheADI1030BioController.
TheADI1035BioConsole isan actuatorconsole for autoclavablebioreactors,containing
hardwarecomponentssuch asa stirrerspeedcontroller,rotameterassemblies or massflow
controllers,pumps,etc(refertotheusermanualofthisdevice).ThisBioConsolecanbeused
incombinationwiththeADI1030BioController.
TheADI1075PilotSystem is anactuatorconsoleforInSituSterilizablesystems,containing
hardwarecomponentssuch asa stirrerspeedcontroller,rotameterassemblies,pumps,
temperatureandsterilizationcontrol(refertotheusermanualofthissystem).Thisactuator
console is used in combinationwithcontrollerslike the ADI1040 or ADI1060Control
Consoleand / orhostsystems.

Afterchangingthestirrerspeedsetpoint(localorremote),thestirrerspeedwillrampup/down
untilthenewsetpointisreached(rampingspeed= approx.60rpm/sec).
