Foreword
Thank you for purchasing ARJO equipment.
Your Carendo shower and toilet chair is part of a
series of quality products designed especially for
hospitals, nursing homes and other health care use.
We are dedicated to serving your needs and providing
the best products available along with training that
will bring your staff maximum benefit from every
ARJO product.
Please contact us if you have any questions about the
operation or maintenance of your ARJO equipment.
Please read this manual thoroughly!
Please read this manual in its entirety before using
your Carendo shower and toilet chair. Information in
the manual is crucial to the proper operation and
maintenance of the equipment, and will help protect
your product and ensure that equipment performs to
your satisfaction. Some of the information in this
manual is important for your safety and must be read
and understood to help prevent possible injury. ARJO
strongly advise and warn that only ARJO designed
parts, which are designed for the purpose, should be
used on equipment and other appliances supplied by
ARJO, to avoid injuries attributable to the use of ina-
dequate parts.
Unauthorized modifications on any ARJO equipment
may affect its safety. ARJO will not be held responsi-
ble for any accidents, incidents or lack of perform-
ance that occur as a result of any unauthorized
modification to its products.
Service and Support
Service should be performed regularly on your
Carendo every year by ARJO qualified personnel to
ensure the safety and daily operation of your product.
See chapter Care and Preventive Maintenance.
If you require further information, please contact
your local ARJO representative who can offer com-
prehensive support and service programs to maxi-
mize the long-term safety, reliability and value of the
product. Contact your local ARJO representative for
replacement parts.

Please note that the DVD does not replace the infor-
mation in this manual as the latter also contains addi-
tional important safety instructions.

The equipment must be used in accordance with
these safety instructions. Anyone using the
equipment must also have read and understood
the instructions in this manual.
If there is anything you are not sure about, contact
your ARJO representative.
Intended use
This equipment is intended for hygiene care, showering
and toileting of residents in hospital, nursing home or other
similar environment. Carendo must be used by appropriately
trained caregivers with adequate knowledge of the care
environment, its common practices and procedures, and in
accordance with the guidelines in the Operating and Product
Care instructions (this document).
Resident assessment
We recommend that facilities establish regular assessment
routines. Caregivers should assess each resident according
to the following criteria prior to use:
• The resident’s weight should not exceed 136kg / 300 lbs.
• The resident should understand and respond to instruc-
tions to stay seated in an upright position.
If a resident does not meet these criteria an alternative lift
shall be used.
Battery charger
This charger is intended for charging ARJO battery
NEA 0100 only, in accordance with the instructions
outlined in the Operating and Product Care instructions.
The equipment must only be used for the purposes stated
above.
The useful life of this equipment, unless otherwise stated, is
ten (10) years, subject to preventative maintenance being
carried out in accordance with the instructions for care and
maintenance found in this manual.
NOTE
Modifications made to the equipment with-
out expressed written consent of ARJO will
invalidate the supplier's product liability.
NOTE
All materials used in this product complies
with established biocompatibility stan-
dards and have been tested accordingly
(ISO 10993).

To avoid the possibility of injury
always ensure that:
• the equipment is used by appropriate trained
staff.
• Carendo is moved with care, especially in narrow
passages and over uneven surfaces.
• Carendo is lowered to its ergonomically correct
height during transportation.
• the resident’s arms are crossed over the chest dur-
ing transportation.
• the resident’s feet are clear off the floor during
transportation.
• the resident’s legs don’t move away from the leg
support.
• nobody is touching parts of the lift which are in
relative movement to each other when the lift is
activated.
• the direction of driving during transportation is
according to the illustration below.
• when moving a resident to or from Carendo the
brake is activated.
• the brake always is activated when Carendo is not
in use.
• the seat cushion is used.
WARNING
Do not overload the Carendo!
It has a lifting capacity of 136 kg (300 lb.)
NOTE
Do not lift the Carendo using the armrests;
use the chassis.
Only one function movement (e.g reclined
function) can be done at a time.
Pushing on more than one button at a time
will stop all movements.
Battery charger safety practices:
• The charger is designed for dry areas only and for
normal air humidity conditions.
• Don’t expose the charger to water or dust.
• The charger must not be covered.
Battery safety practices:
• Use only the charger supplied with the equip-
ment.
• Do not charge batteries in a sealed container.
• Be careful not to drop the battery.
• Do not place batteries near a heat source or fire.
• Do not short-circuit the battery.
• Do not store batteries at a temperature higher
than 50 °C (122 °F).
• Do not crush, puncture, open, dismantle or other-
wise mechanically interfere with the batteries.
• Should the battery casing crack and cause con-
tents to come in contact with skin or clothing,
rinse immediately with water. If contents come in
contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with
plenty of water and seek medical attention.
• Inhalation of the contents can cause respiratory
irritation. Sensitivity of nickel can cause allergic
asthma. Provide fresh air and medical attention.
• Contact the appropriate local authority for advice
when disposing of batteries.
• Check labels on the battery.
WARNING
Don’t expose the batteries or chargers to
flames.
Don’t expose the battery connector to
water.
Don’t use the charger in presence of inflam-
mable anesthetic gases.

Product description/function
Reclined function
A function which makes hygienic care of the resident
easier (1) .
From a sitting position, a reclined position can be achieved
by means of turning gears which makes the backrest move in
backwards and upright directions.
Corresponding to this movement the legrest is moving up
and down.
Lifting function, high/low
The resident can, in a sitting position, be transported and the
chair can be adjusted to a suitable height over the toilet (2) .
The lifting/lowering movement is performed by a linear
actuator driven by an electric motor.
Care Raiser
A function which makes undressing and changing of incon-
tinence pads of the resident easier (3) .
From a sitting position, a raising of the posterior parts of the
resident and at the same time a backwards movement of the
backrest (4) is activated. These movements are synchronized
to each other.
Leg support
Supports the resident’s legs, and also prevents the legs from
getting jammed under the seat.
Moves forward when the chair is adjusted to the reclined
position.
Driving handles
Driving handles (5) on the backrest give correct driving posi-
tion for the caregiver.
Maneuver handles
The maneuvering handles on the backrest (6) help the
caregiver to get the chair in the correct position over the
toilet and in the shower.
Castors
Carendo is equipped with lockable castors (7) .
Security strap
The strap will secure the resident in the chair.
Fasten at the knobs on either side of the backrest and
adjust length by means of the holes (see illustration 8 for
correct fastening position).
Secure the resident with the strap if needed.
WARNING
Always ensure that the seat cushion is used to
protect the resident from pinching.

Handset
Connect the contact of the handset on the right side
of the backrest (1a). Normally, the handset should not
be disconnected from the chair. If a disconnection is
needed when a new unit should be mounted, loosen
very carefully by means of the snap-in socket.
The handset has a hook on the back, making it easy
to attach it to various parts of the chair (1b).
• Green LED, flashing when the Care Raiser
is possible to activate (2A).
• Care Raiser and sitting position (2B).
• Reclined and sitting position (2C).
• Arrow pointing upwards/downwards for raising
or lowering (2D).
Back pillow (accessory)
An additional pillow to support the back.
An integrated easyglide function when the chair is
adjusted to reclined position. Easy to adjust accord-
ing to the length of the resident (3-4) .
See separate instructions accompanying the product.
Battery charger
The battery holder should be attached to a suitable wall
and the charger connected to a properly grounded wall
socket (5) .
See separate instruction on page 23.

NOTE
A buzzing tone will be heard and the green
LED is flashing when sitting position is
reached.
NOTE
Care raising can only be activated when the
green LED is flashing.
NOTE
The battery charger is designed for use in a
dry location and should not be installed in
bathrooms, etc.
Seat cushion
A seat cushion that provides comfort and protection
against pinching (6a-d) .
Battery
The battery is placed at the left side of the chair (7) .
NOTE
See to that the rounded ridge of the battery is
turned upwards.
