Quick Start Guide
Thank you for purchasing Ascendent's X4S Series DVR!
Please read this quick start guide co pletely and keep it for future reference. This Quick Start
Guide will explain how to setup your DVR, log in, schedule recording, setup otion recording
zones, search for events, playback, and backup files.

Setting up your DVR:
Place your DVR on a flat surface and clear the area of any obstructive materials that may block
proper airflow. If anything blocks the vents for airflow it may cause the DVR to overheat and
not perform correctly.
Plug in all video feeds in the order you wish to display them. Then plug in the monitor cable
(V A, or HDMI), Ethernet cable, USB mouse, and any other peripherals you wish to use. Finally,
plug in the 12VDC power supply to your DVR. Ensure the power switch on the back of your
DVR is set to the on position. Your DVR will now turn on.
Log in to your DVR:
Now that your DVR is turned on you will need to log in. The DVR is to be controlled using the
USB mouse included with your DVR. Right-clicking the mouse will load a drop down menu.
Select “Main Menu” from the list and you will be prompted to login. The username to use
when setting up your DVR is 888888. The default password for each login is a direct match to
the username (ie. Username: 888888, Password: 888888). You can select other character sets
to use by clicking on the highlighted character set on the right.

Setting the date & time:
Now that you have logged in you will need to ensure that the date and time is set correctly.
With the main menu on screen you will select Setting, eneral.
Now, place the cursor over the date and time. Using the scroll wheel on the mouse, adjust the
numbers up or down to set the date and time. When done, click Save to the right of the date
and time field. Then click Save at the bottom of the window to save and exit.

Schedule Recording:
Now your DVR is ready to begin the rest of the setup. Ascendent recommends using Motion
Record for each channel.
To make changes to the recording type or schedule access the main menu and select Setting,
Schedule.
Choose the cameras from the drop down list and apply the type of recording you wish to use.
The options are Regular (Continuous recording), MD (Motion Detection, or Event recording),
and Alarm (Triggered recording). You can select any combination of these recording types if
you wish. You can also choose for the camera to record on MD for half of the day and then
Alarm for the other half using the time schedule.

Setup Motion Recording ones:
Motion zones are important to save space on your hard drive, easily locate events, and extend the life
of your DVR.
To configure Motion Recording go to the Main Menu, select Setting, Detect.
To change the region that triggers the Motion Record click “Select” from the Detect screen for each
camera by choosing each channel individually or do all cameras at once by choosing “All”.
Recording will occur upon detected motion within the pink region. Simply click to remove a square.

Search & Play an Event:
To search for an event right-click the mouse from the previewing screen.
Select Search from the drop down menu. Click on the clock in the lower left-hand corner to
choose a date to begin your search.
Dates with recording will appear highlighted. Select the date you wish to begin your search
from. Now you can see a list of events in the right-hand frame. Click the box next to the time
in the list to activate it for viewing. Double-clicking on an event in this list will result in
immediate playback. Alternatively, you can select the events in the list and then click the Play
icon on the lower playback control bar.
On the playback control bar you can control playback and volume. View other events with the
Advance and Previous buttons. Click and drag the slider bar to advance the playback.

Backup an Event:
From the search and playback frame, select the desired events you wish to backup.
Click the file save logo in the lower right-hand corner of the frame.
With a USB stick inserted (or a DVD on DVD models) you will see the space available for
backup. Confirm the files that will backup and click Start. Your files will be written to the
media you’ve chosen along with the player for easy viewing on a PC.
