1 GENERAL INFORMATION
This instruction manual contains instructions on how to install, configure and use the URMET Domus 1093/100 VPR
(Video Phone Recorder).
1.1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The VPR is a digital PC-platform based video recording running Linux operating system; it can record the video of up to
four cameras on an internal hard disk and manage various types of connections (PSTN, ISDN, ADSL, LAN, GRPS,
EDGE, UMTS).
1.1.1 GENERAL FEATURES
 Four composite video input channels

 Eight alarm sensor inputs and eight relay outputs (with optional GPIO board ref. 1093/105)
 RS-485 connection for speed-dome control (with optional USB/RS-485 converter ref. 1093/106)

1.2 OPENING THE BOX
Check that the packing and the contents are not visibly damaged. Contact the retailer immediately if parts are either
missing or damaged. Do not attempt to use the device in this case. Send the product back in its original packing if it is
damaged.

1.3 WARNINGS
1.3.1 POWER
 This device must be powered from the 230Vac 50Hz electrical mains only.
 Although the device is programmed to restore normal working conditions following a sudden power blackout, do
not switch the device on and off by pulling out the plug. Use the on/off button on the front panel, as shown in
chapter 3.
1.3.2 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
 Keep the device away from rain and humidity to prevent risk of fire and electrocution. Do not introduce material
(solid or liquid) inside. If this should accidentally occur, disconnect the device from the mains and have it
inspected by qualified personnel.
 Never open the device. In all cases, contact a qualified personnel or authorised service centre for repairs.
 Keep the device away from children, to prevent accidental damage.
 Do not touch the device with wet hands to prevent electrical shock or mechanical damage.
 Do not use the device if it should fall or the external casing is damaged. Risk of electrocution if the device is
used in such conditions. Contact the retailer or authorised installer.
1.3.3 INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
 At least 5 centimetres of free space around the ventilation vents are required to allow a suitable flow of air
needed to cool internal components.
 To prevent overheating the device, arrange it in a position allowing the flow of air through the slots in the casing.
For the same reason, do not install sources of heat, such as radiators or hot air ducts. Keep away from direct
sunlight. Do not install in areas subject to excessive dust, mechanical vibrations or shocks.
 Do not arrange this device on an unstable surface, such as a tottering or slanted table. The device could fall
causing injury or mechanical failures.

 Do not install the device in a place where it could be exposed to humidity or water. Do not direct a jet of water
onto the device: risk of fire, electrocution or mechanical failure.
 Stop using the device if water or other material should penetrate inside: risk of fire and electrocution. Contact
the retailer or authorised installer.
 Do not place heavy or heat generating objects on top of the device: this could damage the casing and/or
increase internal temperature causing faults.
 Do not cover the device with a cloth while it is running to prevent deforming the external casing and overheating
the internal parts: risk of fire, electrocution and mechanical failure.
 Keep magnets and magnetised objects away from the device to prevent faults.
 Do not use the device in presence of smoke, vapour, humidity, dust or intense vibrations.
 Wait for a while before operating a device immediately after transporting it from a cold place to a warm place
and vice versa. Wait on average for three hours: this will allow the device to adapt to the new ambient
(temperature, humidity, etc.).
1.3.4 CLEANING THE DEVICE
 Rub delicately with a dry cloth to remove dust and dirt.
 Dip the cloth in neutral detergent if dirt cannot be eliminated with a dry cloth alone.
 Do not use volatile liquids (such a petrol, alcohol, solvents, etc.) or chemically treated clothes to clean the
device to prevent deformation, deterioration or scratches to the paint finish.
1.3.5 HARD DISK
 The hard disk installed in this device is sensitive to shocks, differences in temperature and vibrations.
Disrespect of these precautions can compromise correct operation of the device and loss of data stored on the
hard disk.
 If repairs are required, it is advisable to backup all important data before taking the device to the service centre.
URMET Domus S.p.A. is not liable for loss of stored data.
1.3.6 IMAGE RECORDING
 This device was designed to record images, not as a burglar alarm. URMET Domus S.p.A. cannot be held liable
for loss or damage following theft sustained by the user.
 Make a test recording before using the device to make sure that is working correctly. Please note that URMET
Domus S.p.A. is not liable for loss of stored data consequent to loss or damage caused by incorrect observation
installation, use, improper use or malfunctioning of the device.
 This device contains precision electronic components. Protect the device from shocks to ensure correct
recording of images.
1.3.7 PRIVACY AND COPYRIGHT
 The VPR 1093/100 digital video recorder is a device for CCTV systems. Recording of images is subject to the
laws in force in your country. Recording of images protected by copyright is forbidden.
 Product users shall be responsible for checking and respecting all local rules and regulations concerning
monitoring and recording video signals. The manufacturing SHALL NOT BE LIABLE for use of this product not
in compliance with the laws in force.

2 DESCRIPTION OF PARTS AND INSTALLATION
2.1 FRONTAL VIEW
PART DESCRIPTION
ON/OFF BUTTON: Use this button to switch the VPR on and off safely (see chapter 3 in this
manual).
The light shows that the device is powered and on.
POWER LED: This shows that the hard disk is in use.
2.2 REAR VIEW
ID PART DESCRIPTION

Power switch: Turn to “0” if the device is left off for a long time. Switch to “1” to use the
device.

230 V power socket: Connect the power cord provided to power the device.

Keyboard and mouse connectors: Connect the mouse to the green connector and the
keyboard to the purple connector.
eIMPORTANT NOTE
The keyboard is not essential for operating the device because all configurations can be
made using the mouse and the virtual keypad.
The mouse must instead always be connected to the device: Reboot the VPR if the mouse is
accidentally removed.

OUT VGA Video connector: Connect the VGA cord from the monitor (this connection is
only needed to use the VPR in local mode (see chapter 4.1).
eIMPORTANT NOTE
The VPR is able to run also without a connected monitor.

USB connectors: Connect a USB drive to backup recordings (as described in chapter 6.6.2)
and/or connect the optional USB/RS-485 interface 1093/106 needed to control PTZ cameras
via the VPR.

LAN - RJ45 network socket: Connect the UTP CAT5 standard LAN cable leading from a
network device (e.g. switch or router). Connecting to the LAN/WAN is only needed to
connect the device to a remote PC. Refer to chapter 4 of this manual for how to connect the
VPR.

Cooling fans: Leave a free space of at least 5 cm around the vents: do not obstruct the
circulation of air for any reason.

RS-232 COM1 serial connector (9 pins): Connect the optional PSTN analogue modem
1093/107 to the RS-232 serial port.
eIMPORTANT NOTE
The PSTN modem is only needed to connect the VPR to a traditional analogue telephone
line.

Video acquisition board: Connect the four video inputs from the camera using the specific
BNC connectors.

GPIO board 1093/105 (optional): Optional board for connecting external sensors and alarm
outputs: refer to paragraphs 8.2 e 8.3 of this manual for how to install and connect the
sensors.

3 HOW TO SWITCH THE VPR ON AND OFF
The VPR can automatically start up again after a sudden power blackout and normal system operation is restored.
However, to avoid hard disk failures and damage to the system file, use the procedures for switching the device on and
off safely shown below in normal conditions.
3.1 HOW TO SWITCH THE DEVICE ON
To start the VPR, make sure that the power cord is connected and that the power switch (near the power cord) is in
position “1”. Then press the power button on the front panel of the VPR. Check that the LED is on and wait for the
system to boot up. The system will beep three times at the end of the start-up procedure to indicate that the system is
correctly initialised and that it is ready to work normally.
The system will beep repeatedly during the start-up procedure if it cannot start-up correctly for any reason. In this case,
switch the VPR off by holding the on/off button on the front panel pressed and start the device. If the error indication
occurs again, switch the device off and contact your nearest service centre. Do not repeatedly attempt to switch the
device on.
3.2 HOW TO SWITCH THE DEVICE OFF
To switch the VPR off in normal operating conditions, press the on/off button on the front panel of the VPR for less than
one second. Then wait for the system to shut down safely: the power LED will go out at the end of the procedure. During
the procedure, all recordings in progress will be shut down and correctly saved to the hard disk. All running processes
will be stopped. Although the VPR is able of automatically restoring its regular operation following a sudden power
blackout, you should always switch the device off using this procedure to avoid damaging the internal components of the
device.
eIMPORTANT NOTE
Do not cut off power to the device by unplugging it or shifting the power switch to “0” during the system shutdown
procedure. Wait for the system shutdown procedure to end and the power LED to go out before performing these
operations.

4 USE AND REMOTE CONNECTIONS
The 1093/100 VPR may be used either locally (as a standalone device) and/or from remote locations connected via LAN
and WAN, or via an analogue PSTN telephone line.
Select the most suitable method of use according to your needs.
eIMPORTANT NOTE
The VPR must be able to connect to the Internet in the event of an alarm to use the SMS test message or e-mail warning
service.
4.1 LOCAL INTERFACE USE
The device does not need to be connected to a data or telephone network for use via the local interface. The device may
however connect to the data and telephone networks at the same time. Alarm warnings cannot be received via SMS text
message or e-mail if the VPR is used only via the local interface because the device must be connected to the Internet
for alarm warning.
To access the local interface, connect the mouse to the specific PS2 connector and a VGA monitor supporting 1024x768
pixel resolution to the VPR monitor output.
Switch the VPR on following the procedure shown in chapter 3.1 of this manual.
At the end of the initialisation step, the live video from the camera connected to the device will appear in the middle of the
screen and the main navigation menu will appear on the top to access all VPR functions.
Move the mouse to shift the pointer on the screen and press the left mouse button to select the available items.
Refer to chapters 5 and 6 of this manual to configure and use the VPR.
4.2 REMOTE CONNECTION VIA LAN (LOCAL AREA NETWORK)
The VPR can be installed on a LAN (Local Area Network) or connected via a remote PC; such connection method may
be used in addition to use via the local interface of the VPR.
The only requirement is the presence of a normal web browser on the PC (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer to connect to
the VPR).
eIMPORTANT NOTE
The web browser is normally installed on the PC during operating system installation.
To connect the VPR to another PC without data network, connect the cross cable directly from the PC to the RJ45 plug
of the VPR, as shown in Figure 1.

To connect the VPR to the LAN (Figure 2), connect a normal network cable (UTP cat-5) from a network device to the
RJ45 plug of the VPR.

4.2.1 VPR REMOTE CONNECTION PROCEDURE VIA WEB BROWSER
Switch the VPR on following the procedure shown in chapter 3.1 of this manual.
On the remote PC, open a web browser and enter the IP address assigned to the VPR in the URL field (the default IP
address is 192.168.1.111). Then enter username and password to access the system.
(Default: username: admin - password: abcd)
At this point, the system will detect the presence and version of the Java Virtual Machine installed on the PC. If no Java
Virtual Machine is installed or if the installed version is different from that required for the connection, a page containing
the link for downloading Java Virtual Machine to be installed on the PC will appear directly on the VPR.
eIMPORTANT NOTE
To install the most recent version of Java Virtual Machine, you can connect directly to Sun Microsystems
(http://www.sun.com) and download the most recent version.
After establishing the connection to the VPR, you will be asked to select the connection speed (select LAN in this case).
According to the connection line speed, the VPR is able to automatically adjust the video signal compression parameters
so as to optimise transmission quality.
At this point, the LIVE video page will appear showing the video transmitted by the camera connected to the VPR. Move
the mouse to shift the pointer on the screen and press the left mouse button to select the available items.
Refer to chapters 5 and 6 of this manual to configure and use the VPR.
4.3 REMOTE CONNECTION VIA WAN (INTERNET)
The VPR may be connected to the WAN via a traditional modem (PSTN or ISDN), or via a broadband router (e.g. ADSL).
A dynamic IP address for Internet connections may be retrieved if you do not have a fixed public IP address. Refer to
chapter 4.3.4 of this manual for how to retrieve the public IP address assigned to the VPR during Internet connection.
4.3.1 CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET VIA PSTN ANALOGUE MODEM REF. 1093/107 (OPTIONAL)
When configured in this way, the VPR can automatically connect to the Internet in the event of an alarm or following a
wake-up call (see chapter 4.5).
After establishing the Internet connection (alarm and wake-up), you will receive the dynamic IP assigned to the VPR in a
SMS text message and/or by e-mail.
Proceed as shown in chapter 4.2.1 to connect to the VPR from a remote PC to the Internet. Enter the public IP address
in the URL field of the web browser and select PSTN in the connection speed options window.

4.3.2 CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET VIA ADSL BROADBAND ROUTER REF. 1093/108 (OPTIONAL)
This connection method may be used with a broadband connection, such as an ADSL line, either flat or charged by time.
In this case, configure the VPR as belonging to the LAN to which the broadband router is connected and the private IP
address of the router as gateway.
The router must also be configured to address calls from the Internet to the VPR using the ports shown in the VPR
configuration itself (refer to chapter 5.6 of this manual for how to configure the ports).
In this mode, you can connect the VPR both via a PC inside the LAN (by entering the private IP address of the VPR in
the browser URL field) or via a remote PC connected to the Internet (by entering the public IP address assigned to the
router for the Internet connection in the URL field). Follow the connection procedure shown in chapter 4.2.1. Select ADSL
when the connection speed options windows appears. If the public IP address is dynamically assigned to the Internet
connection, refer to chapter 4.3.4 for retrieving the dynamic IP address of the VPR.
4.3.3 DIRECT POINT-TO-POINT CONNECTION
The VPR is also able to manage direct telephone connections (point-to-point connections) using the optional PSTN
analogue modem ref. 1093/107. Use the remote PC “Dial-up” to configure the direct connection to the VPR, indicating
the telephone number of the line to which the VPR is connected, the username and password to be used for the point-to
point connection (default password “1234” - see chapter 5.6 for “Point To Point Password” settings). Establish the
telephone connection, then following the connection procedure shown in chapter 4.2.1, entering the VPR IP address in
the browser URL field (default: 192.168.1.111) and selecting PSTN in the connection speed options window.
4.3.4 RETRIEVING A PUBLIC DYNAMIC IP ADDRESS ASSIGNED BY THE INTERNET PROVIDER
Whenever the VPR is connected to the Internet, the public IP address to be used for connection from remote PC can be
retrieved. Open the web browser on a PC connected to the Internet and enter the following URL:
http://mobile.videosorv.com/mobile.html . Enter the “mobile code” of the VPR (provided with the product) and press
“ENTER”. If the VPR is connected to the Internet, its public IP address will be shown on the page with a link for
connecting to the VPR: click on the link to establish the connection. Check that you have entered the “mobile code”
correctly if the message “The system cannot be reached” appears on the page instead.
4.4 CONNECTION TO VPR FROM MOBILE PHONE
You can connect to the VPR also using your mobile phone and display the camera video in real time on the phone.
eIMPORTANT NOTE
The VPR must be connected to the Internet to connect via a mobile phone.
The mobile phone must be capable of running JAVA applications and the specific URMET VPR Mobile software needs to
be installed to connect to the VPR.

4.4.1 HOW TO INSTALL VPR MOBILE
Connect to the Internet via your mobile phone on the GPRS/EDGE/UMTS network and go to the following web address
to download and install URMET VPR Mobile software:
http://www.videosorv.com/vpr.wml
Select “Download” on the web page and proceed with the installation procedure confirming all installation prompts that
appear and selecting the memory where to save the application when required.
Once installed, you will be able to retrieve the VPR Mobile application on your mobile phone.
4.4.2 HOW TO CONFIGURE AND USE VPR MOBILE
You will need to define some parameters for establishing the connection to the VPR when the software is used for the
first time. These parameters will be saved on the mobile phone and you will not need to enter them each time. The
parameters can be changed at any time.
Start VPR Mobile by selecting the icon in the application menu of your mobile phone. The main configuration page will be
automatically opened. Set the following parameters:
 System name: enter a name for easily identifying the VPR to be connected (e.g. home, office, etc.).
 IP or System Code: enter the public IP address of your VPR if you have a static IP address (i.e. if the VPR IP
address is always the same). Otherwise, if the VPR is connected to the Internet with a dynamic IP address,
enter the “mobile code” provided with the product.
 User: enter the username to be used for the connection (default: user). When entering the user name, be
careful to respect the sequence of upper and lower case letters exactly as shown in the VPR user configuration
procedure (refer to chapter 5.7 for user configuration).
 Password: enter the user password (default: 1234). When entering the password, be careful to respect the
sequence of upper and lower case letters exactly as shown in the VPR user configuration procedure (refer to
chapter 5.7 for user configuration).
IMPORTANT: The characters introduced in the password field are masked by * (asterisks) for safety.
At the end of the configuration procedure, select “Save” in the options menu to save the configurations or select “Save
and connect” to save the settings and connect to the VPR.
Several VPRs can be configured to rapidly connect to them in the event of need. To configure other VPRs to be
connected, select “Add” from the options menu and proceed by configuring the new VPRs.
To connect a VPR using VPR Mobile, select the name of the VPR to be connected in the available VPR list and select
“Connect” in the options menu. Your mobile phone may prompt you to confirm the GPRS/EDGE/UMTS connection: in
this case, confirm the connection and wait for a few seconds.
The list of cameras connected to the VPR will appear on your mobile phone display when the VPR is connected. Select
the camera whose video you want to display and select “Show” in the options menu. The video transmitted by the
camera will appear on your mobile phone display.
To select another camera, press back and go back to the available camera list.
To close the VPR Mobile application and the Internet connection, select “Quit” from the options menu.

4.5 WAKE-UP FUNCTION VIA DTMF TONE-DIAL TELEPHONE
The VPR wake-up function for setting simply commands to the device is available when the VPR is not connected to the
Internet using the optional PSTN analogue modem ref. 1093/107 via a normal DTMF tone-dial telephone.
Three command types can be sent to the VPR via the telephone: connect to the Internet now, alarm warning on, alarm
warning off. To send DTMF commands to the VPR, call the VPR, authenticate the call, send the command and end the
call as shown below:
 Call and call authentication procedure: Dial the telephone number of the line to which the VPR is connected
using a telephone capable of sending DTMF tones and wait for the VPR reply. After a certain number of rings
(as shown in chapter 5.6), the VPR will reply: a confirmation tone will be heard and the communication will be
established. Within 5 seconds from the confirmation tone, press * on the telephone keypad followed by the PIN
code set in chapter 5.6 (default: 1234) and then the # key. Wait for the confirmation tone. An error tone will be
heard if you make a mistake when entering the PIN code. Enter the PIN code again (* PIN #). The call will be
automatically terminated after three consecutive mistakes.
 How to send a command to immediately connect to the Internet provider: When you hear the confirmation
tone after the log-on procedure, press 1, wait for the confirmation tone and hang up. After receiving this
command, the VPR will immediately hang up, connect to the Internet provider using the parameters entered in
chapter 5.6 of this manual and send its IP address (assigned by the Internet provider) by e-mail or SMS text
message according to the parameters shown in chapter 5.3 (also if alarm warning is off). The IP address of the
VPR may also be retrieved as described in chapter 4.3.4. You may then connect to the VPR using a remote PC
as described in chapter 4.3.1.
 How to send an alarm warning on command: When you hear the confirmation tone after the log-on
procedure, press 8, wait for the confirmation tone: the VPR will switch alarm warning on. Press * to end the call
and hang up.
 How to send an alarm warning off command: When you hear the confirmation tone after the log-on
procedure, press 9, wait for the confirmation tone: the VPR will switch alarm warning off. Press * to end the call
and hang up.

5 VPR CONFIGURATION
The VPR needs to be appropriately configured by changing the standard parameters assigned by the manufacturer
according to needs and to the specific range of use.
When the VPR is on and during normal operation, select “SETTINGS” on the main navigation menu (top of the screen)
with the mouse. Access to the configuration area is allowed to all users with system access level >=3 (see chapter 5.7 for
user management). You can access the configuration area either locally or from a remote PC. All configuration options
can be managed in both cases.
eIMPORTANT NOTE
If the VPR local access level is lower than “administration” level, you will need to enter the administration password to
access all configuration items (see chapter 5.6).
The default settings for “administration user level” are:
 Username →admin
 Password →abcd
Use the vertical navigation menu on the left of the screen to select the different configuration areas. Use of an external
keyboard is not envisaged in local use (although the keyboard function is supported). Use the virtual keypad for entering
digits and letters, as required. To make the virtual keypad appear on the screen, click on the keyboard icon next to
the fields requiring its use.
Select the required characters with the mouse. Then select “close” to hide the virtual keypad.

5.1 CAMERAS
Each connected camera may be configured independently so as to perform different functions according to the place of
installation and the framed scene.

5.1.1 HOW TO ASSIGN A NAME TO THE CAMERAS
To assign a name to a camera, enter the required name in the specific field next to the Camera 1 (Camera 2, Camera 3,
Camera 4) label. The name may be chosen as required. It is advisable to assign a descriptive name which helps you to
promptly identify its place of installation.
5.1.2 HOW TO SELECT VIDEO RESOLUTION
The VPR allows image acquisition in two video formats: QVGA (320x240 pixel resolution) and VGA (640x480 pixel
resolution). Select the most suitable video resolution according to needs by selecting the corresponding option.
Higher resolution corresponds to better acquired image definition but will also occupy more space on the hard disk when
recorded and more bandwidth when transmitted on the LAN/WAN. Consequently, it is advisable to select a higher
resolution (640x480) if the video is often shown in full screen and if minor details in the scene need to be identified.
Conversely, it is advisable to select lower resolution (320x240) if video is simply shown in Quad mode and if the video
often needs to be transmitted on the network to a remote PC using a limited bandwidth.
5.1.3 HOW TO DETECT MOVEMENTS IN THE SCENE
This function can be enabled if the framed scene should not contain moving objects in normal conditions; the presence of
motion in the scene will generate an alarm according to the alarm warning settings (see chapters 5.3 and 5.6 of this
manual for how to set alarm warning). Select the number of seconds within which the presence of motion is ignored to
avoid false alarms if motions persist only for a short time. In this case, no alarm warning will be received if the movement
persists for less than the selected number of seconds. Select 0 to generate a warning for any movement detected in the
scene.
It is also possible to exclude some areas of the scene from the motion detection function (ignore areas) and adjust the
motion detection sensitivity. Refer to chapter 5.11 of this manual for settings.
5.1.4 VIDEO LOSS WARNING
Select this option to be warned if there is no video signal from the corresponding camera. This may be generated by a
power blackout, camera failure or video signal cable interruption.

5.1.5 RECORDING PARAMETERS
The following parameters can be set according to your saving needs.
Select “On” to enable the corresponding video channel for recording or “Off” to deactivate all recordings (except those
started manually and those generated by an external sensor, which will be performed in all cases). To program automatic
weekly recordings, check the “schedule” option and then click on the highlighted “schedule” option to program the
weekly recording schedule.
Select the recording type (if recordings are activated on the video channel):
 motion for recording if motions are detected in the scene. Recordings will be saved at the frame rate shown on
the right.
 h24 for continuous, round-the-clock recordings at the frame rate shown on the right. A file will be generated for
each one hour of recording for technical reasons.
 motion + h24 this special setting can be used to perform two different recordings of the same video channel:
one recording will be constant, round-the-clock, at a fixed frame rate of 1fps and a separate recording will be
made with the frame rate shown on the right in the event of movement in the scene.
Select the frame rate for the recordings on the right from one of the three available levels: high, medium and low. High
frame rates correspond to more fluent sequences but recordings will occupy more space on the hard disk and more
bandwidth for transmission on the LAN/WAN. In order to optimise performance of the entire system, it is advisable to
select the lowest frame rate considered acceptable for recordings.
In the event to motion detection recordings, it is possible to set a pre-recording time and a post-recording time of images
by selecting the corresponding number of seconds. These recordings will contain the sequences before and after the
event which generated them (pre-recording time) and will end a certain time after the generating element ends (post-
recording time).

5.2 DOMES
PTZ cameras controllable via RS-485 serial line and Pelco-D protocol (such as for example Easy Dome Urmet Domus
ref. 1090/072 and 1090/082) can be controlled by the VPR. Connect the camera correctly as shown in chapter 8.1 and
configure the following parameters:
Select “USB” device if an optional USB/RS-485 ref. 1093/106 converter is used to connect the VPR to the RS-485 serial
line. Select “RS232” instead if the VPR is connected to the RS-485 serial line via a normal RS232-RS485 converter.
Then select the protocol to be used for communication on the RS-485 line and the bit rate (which must be the same as
that set on the camera).
For each connected PTZ camera, indicate the corresponding ID address (which must correspond to the address
assigned to the camera connected to the indicated channel and if several PTZ cameras are connected to the same RS-
485 serial line each one must have a different ID address).

5.3 ALARMS
In the event of an alarm, the VPR will automatically establish the Internet connection to send a warning to up to three
configurable e-mail addresses. The device will send a picture of what happened in the alarmed site along with its public
IP address so as to connect to the VPR from a remote PC. Similarly, the VPR may send a SMS text message to up to
three mobile phone numbers containing in addition to the alarm warning, its public IP address and a link for downloading
a short recording of what happened so that the situation can be analysed directly on the mobile phone (a mobile phone
capable of running Java programs and which can connect to the Internet via GPRS, EDGE or UMTS is required for this
function).

Configure the following parameters to receive alarm warnings via e-mail and/or SMS text messages:
Select “On” to activate alarm sending and consequently receive e-mails and/or SMS text messages if an alarm is
detected by the VPR. Select “Off” to stop alarm warnings. In this case, no alarm warnings will be sent regardless of all
other settings.
To program automatic alarm warning schedule, select “schedule” and click on the highlighted “schedule” item to start
weekly programming.
Select “YES” or “NO” to send e-mails in the event of an alarm.
Enter up to three different e-mail addresses in the e-mail fields (main, e-mail2, e-mail3). The e-mails will be sent to all the
listed addresses.
Select “YES” or “NO” to stop sending SMS in the event of an alarm.
Enter up to three different mobile phone numbers in the fields (mobile phone 1, mobile phone 2, mobile phone 3). Enter
digits only without blanks with the country code, only if required (for example the country code for Italy is 0039).
The SMS test message will be sent to all mobile phone numbers shown.
eIMPORTANT NOTE
The VPR must be able to connect to the Internet according to one of the methods described in chapter 4.3 of this manual
to use the e-mail and SMS test message warning function.
If you are using an Internet connection charged by time, you may wish to indicate how long the VPR must be connected
to the Internet. After the minutes shown, the VPR will automatically shut the Internet connection down.

5.4 I/O BOARD (OPTIONAL)
This area is used to configure the optional GPIO board ref. 1093/105 for managing input sensors and output relays. This
configuration area can only be accessed if the GPIO board is actually installed in the VPR.
5.4.1 MANUAL OUTPUT CONTROL
Click on “Manual output control” to manually control the output relays (useful for system tests and inspections in the
event of faults). The following will appear:

The number of available outputs depends on the configuration shown in the following chapter.
Click on the button corresponding to the output to be controlled to switch the relay on and off. Click on “CLOSE” to shut
down manual relay control.
5.4.2 GPIO DIP SWITCH CONFIGURATION
The optional GPIO USB board has 8 sensor inputs and 8 configurable relay outputs. Use the dip switch next to the 25 pin
connector on the board to configure the board and switch the relay outputs into additional sensor inputs. In this way, you
can have up to 16 sensor inputs and 0 relay outputs. Refer to chapter 8.2 in this manual for dip switch configuration.
After configuring the inputs and outputs of the board, select “DIP SWITCH SETTINGS” to edit the following configuration
parameters:

Reproduce the variations made using the GPIO board dip switch for each of the 8 outputs exactly: select “Input” if you
have switched the corresponding output into a sensor input (dip switch on) or “Output” if you did not switch the output
into a sensor input (dip switch position off).
Press SAVE at the end of the configuration procedure to save the changes made or BACK to go back to the
configuration page without saving the changes made.
Enter a descriptive name which identifies the sensor source for each connected sensor input (e.g. volumetric, burglar,
door, etc.). Select “On” or “Off” to detect changes of status of the sensor or to ignore the sensor itself. Select “schedule”
to program sensor input activation/deactivation and then click on “From scheduler” to schedule weekly programming.
Select “on/off notify alarms” if you want to use sensor status changes to sequentially switch alarm warnings on and off
instead of generating an alarm.
In practice, when “Send alarm on/off” is selected following change of status of the corresponding input sensor, the alarm
warning function will be activated (if it was off) or deactivated (if it was on). This operation is similar to that manually
described in chapter 5.3 of the present manual.
After an input sensor status change, the VPR will start recording and save the video of the event: select the recording
time (minimum 5 seconds, maximum 10 minutes) and the camera on which to record the images.
All inputs generated by the input sensor can be notified via e-mail and/or SMS text message. Select whether to generate
warnings from the connected sensor or not.
The status of a relay output can be varied when a pulse is detected on an input sensor. Select the output to be controlled
in the event of variation of the input sensor status.
The available relay outputs shown in the list may be configured after configuring all input sensors:
Enter descriptive name identifying the connected device (e.g. staircase lights, siren, etc.) for each connected relay
output. Select “on” or “off” respectively to control the relay output or not. Select “schedule” to program relay output
control activation/deactivation and then click on “From scheduler” to schedule weekly programming.

Output relay timing configuration procedure:
 Active: indicates the number of times to perform the relay closing command
 Every: indicates the interval of time between commands (relay closing)
 Total duration: indicates the relay closing application time.
At the end of the connected sensor and relay configuration procedure, press SAVE to save the changes made.
5.5 UPGRADES
The VPR software can be upgraded directly via the Internet. (The Internet connection must be running to check
availability of on-line upgrades).
Press “search for upgrade” to manually start searching for the available software upgrades.
The VPR also has an automatic on-line upgrade function. Press “enable the live update” to enable automatic upgrade
searches or press “disable the live update” to deactivate the automatic upgrade search function. Remember to start a
manual search every so often if the automatic search function is off.
