ASCOM OLTU User manual

«The Optical Line Termination Unit OLTU makes your optical connections even more
flexible and more efficient.»
Challenge
Optical fibre is extraordinarily efficient and increa-
singly replaces conventional copper-based connec-
tions. Existing terminals may be upgraded to use
optical fibre by means of an interface technology
which is adapted to the customer‘s specific needs.
Functionality
As well as providing optical point to point connecti
ons, the OLTU also offers the following functionali-
ties and services:
LAN Switching
Audio & Video Streaming
Telephony Services (PABX)
Permanent Voice Channel (EOW)
Configuration, Diagnostics and Control
Functions
A wide range of interfaces is available such as EU-
ROCOM, analog and VoIP Telephony, Video, Audio,
Ethernet, etc.
The equipment is available in a ruggedized cons-
ruction with a carrying case specified to Mil STD
810 E.

Flexibility
The OLTU concept, which is based on the hardware
and software platform open Access® node, offers
the possibility to use a broad variety of HW and SW
components. OLTU guarantees a flexible, economi-
cal and customer-oriented solution. It‘s up to the
customer to chose the required functionalities and
services, subject to certain constraints. The custo-
mer also decides the number and types of required
interfaces. Small dimensioned systems are also
available.
Future functionalities
The chosen platform concept allows new functio-
nalities to be easily and rapidly integrated into the
system, for example:
Construction of self-contained, line-powered
systems with a power consumption of up to 2
kVA via a special cable
Self-contained, remotely depoyable systems for
the surveillance of equipment installations or
secure areas
Extended PABX functionalities
Video recording and video image processing
