1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The DS 130L is a 1-channel speaker station for
“Listen Only” purposes, to be used as a tabletop
or a wall mount speaker station. The unit is also
called a “Paging Speaker”,to be installed in
areas where a show relay / paging system (e.g.
dressing rooms of a theatre or studio) is required.
.
The unit has a Volume Control, LED Indicators for
string power and Listen Level Override and is
connected to an intercom line using RJ 45
connectors (In and Link Out).
The DS 130L may be assigned to preferably a
Paging group or else a Conference group.
A channel on a user station which is assigned to
a Paging group is called “the paging channel”.
ID number selection:
The DS 130L is in fact a digital user station,
taking one (1) user position. Its User ID number is
not defined in the configuration software (which is
the case for all other ASL digital user stations) but
is set at the DS 130L itself.
On the rear panel are three 10-position rotary
switches (encoders). The first switch is to define
the first digit of the user ID, the second switch is
to define the second digit and the third switch is to
define the third digit..
Listen Level Override Function:
The DS 130L may be remotely switched to a
certain listen level, overruling the listen level set
by the volume control on the unit itself.
The “override circuitry” in the DS 130L is
triggered by a command which is generated if one
pushes the TALK button of the “paging channel”
at a user station. The “listen level override”
function may be enabled or disabled in the
configuration software. The “override listen level”
is set separately for each DS 130L in the intercom
system, by a trimmer on the rear of each unit.
Using the DS 74 Paging Interface:
To the DS 130L a program audio signal (e.g. the
show relay) may be sent, via the input of a DS 74
Paging interface. This interface is assigned to the
same group as the DS 130L. See section 8.0
2.0 UNPACKING
After unpacking the DS 130L, please inspect for
any physical damage to the unit and retain
shipping carton and relevant packing materials for

6.0 INSTALLATION
The DS 130L can be put on a table or be
mounted against a wall.
A wall-mount a kit is available (to be ordered
separately), consisting of a lid (part I) and a wall
mount plate (part II). The lid keeps out dust and
hampers access for unauthorized personnel to
the controls and connectors at the rear panel.
7.0 ADJUSTMENT IN THE CONFIGURATION SOFTWARE
In screen “Advanced Station Properties”, section “User Station Properties 2”, the Listen Level Override
function (menu item #39) can be enabled or disabled.
8.0 USING THE DS-74 PAGING INTERFACE
To the DS 130L a program audio signal (e.g. the
show relay) may be sent, via the input of a DS 74
Paging interface. This interface is assigned to the
same group as the DS 130L.
One may talk to the DS-130L via the “paging
channel” at ones user station by pushing the
TALK button of that channel. For as long the
TALK button is kept pushed, the program audio
signal is dimmed with an adjustable value, the so-
called Paging Dim factor.
The following DS 74 properties may be adjusted
in the configuration software (screen ‘Interfaces’):
•ground lift on/off
•Input Gain (+6 dB to -36 dB or “Input Off”)
•Output Gain (+6 dB to -6 dB or “Output
Off”)
If a DS 130L is used, choose “Output Off”
•Paging Dim factor (0% to 100%)
•Input direct to Output (0 dB to -12 dB or
“Off”)
If a DS 130L is used, choose “Off”
•Input signal to group(s) (“On” or “Off”)
If a DS 130L is used, choose “On”
•Routing the interface to one or several
groups (max. 32 groups)
•Control Out (‘Off’ or ‘Talk’): the Control
Out is activated by pushing a Talk button
If a DS 130L is used the “Control Out” has
no function

9.0 POWERING
The DS 130L is powered (48V DC) via the
intercom line (string). Since this unit uses more
power than for instance a DS 290 beltpack it is to
be advised to install a DS 85 booster power
supply on the string, close to the DS 130L’s.
If the DS 130L is connected to one of the outputs
of a DS-88 Hub, additional 48 VDC power may be
supplied by a DS-84 Power Injector, to be placed
in the “Intercom Out” line of the DS-88 Hub.
See also section 10.
10.0 WIRING CONFIGURATIONS
10.1 DS 130L Paging Speakers connected to an intercom line (string):
10.2 DS 130L paging speakers connected to DS 88 outputs, with and without a DS-84 Power Injector:
The DS-84 Power Injector is designed to boost
the 48VDC power of an “Intercom Out” line of a
DS -88 Hub, should the 48 VDC power coming
from that DS-88 not be sufficient. DS-84’s are
usually placed in the 19” rack in which the DS-88
is installed.
