Unpacking
Do not plug the printer in just yet. We’ll tell you when you can.

Lift the access cover and remove the clear smudge strips from the
front panel and cover.

Remove the shipping retainer that secures the print head during
shipment. Save it in case you ever need to ship the printer.

Insert the platen knob in the hole on the right side of the printer, lining
up the notch in the knob with the pin on the shaft.
Make sure the printer is turned off, then plug the printer end of the
power cord into the printer and the other end into a 3-hole grounded
outlet.
Setting the Internal Switches
With a serial interface there are three sets of switches, one on the
circuit board and the other two on the serial board.

Before you take the switch cover off to reset any of these switches, read
the overview of their functions and the section entitled resetting switches.
The factory/required settings are indicated by bold text.

Resetting the Switches
You’ll need a screwdriver and a fine-tipped tool- a ballpoint pen or a
toothpick will do.
Make sure that the power is off.

Remove the screw from the small cover on the back of the printer
and slide off the cover.

Using the tool, slide the switch to the new selection.
Replace the cover and tighten the screw. When you turn on the printer
it will activate your new selections.
Installing the Paper Separator
Holding the paper separator parallel to the top of the printer,
insert the tabs into the slots on the top of the printer.
Slide the paper separator towards the back of the printer so that
the tabs fit securely in the slots.

Inserting the ribbon cartridge
If you haven’t done so already, lift off the access cover.

Center the print head so that it’s away from the bail rollers. Make sure
the bail is closed lever back.
With the knob side up, tilt the ribbon cartridge onto the print head plate
so that it slides into the area of the plate that is closest to the front
of the printer.

Lower the ribbon shield over the print head, aligning the tabs with the
inserts on the print head plate.

Press on the cartridge until you feel it snap into place.
Caution:
Do not touch the print head directly after printing,
allow five minutes for it to cool.
Note:
To remove the cartridge, slide the print head away from the
rollers, grasp the cartridge on both sides and lift off.

Replace the access cover unless you haven’t put paper in the printer
yet.
Loading paper
Loading sprocket (computer) paper into your printer. The
printer can handle up to 4 part forms.
Before you load paper, be sure to set the blue print head gap lever (located to
the left of the print head) in position 1 for 1-2 part paper, position 2 for
3 - 4 part paper or position 3 for extra thick paper.

Set the printer on a slotted printer stand, aligning the opening in the
base of the printer with the slot on the stand.
Place the paper under the printer stand.
Lift the access cover.
Open the paper lever and the bail lever
Slide the first sheet of paper through the opening in the base of the
printer.
Using the platen knob, engage the sprocket holes with the pins. If the
pins need adjusting, pull the tabs forward and slide the pins left or right to accommodate the
width of the paper. Lock the tabs when the pins are at the proper distance.
Note:
Do Not stretch the paper. If the sprocket holes stretch or tear the
during printing readjust the pins.
