W3100GisanembeddedwirelessdatatransmissionmodulewhichisbasedontheGSM\GPRSnetwork.This
modulehaswidenetworkcoverageandeasytoestablishingnetwork.Anditisalsoahighreliabilityandlow
operationcostmodule.
ThisDTUcanbidirectionalfulltransparenttransmissionbetweenGPRSandUARTsothatyoucanconnectyou
devicetointernetandmakeaconvenientwirelessremotecommunication.TheOperatingtemperatureoftheDTU
israngefrom-35’Cto+80’Creachestheindustrialstandards.ThismodulecanbeusedfortheIndustryabout
industrialcontrol,fieldcommunication,remotemonitoring,intelligentpowermetersystem,trafficcontrol,
meteorologicalphenomenamonitoring,waterconservancymonitoring,environmentmonitoring,Finance&

3 Configuration
Beforeconfiguration,weshouldconnecttheDTUtoaPCwithaRS-232orRS-485cableasfollowing.
3.1 ConfigurationIntroduction
Youcanuseaconfigurationsoftwaretool.Allthesettingareconfiguredbyasoftwaretool.Thereshould
haveaPCtorunthistool.Inadditiontothisyoucanalsousesomemobilephonetextmessagestoconfigured
thisDTU.
ThefollowingwilltellhowtoconfigureDTUwiththesoftwaretoolandbriefintroductionofSMS
commands.

Opentheconfigurationsoftware.
UseaserialcableconnectDTUtoyouPC,andthechecktheCOMPortnumberoftheDTUuseinthe
devicemanager.ChoosethecorrectCOMportnumberintheconfiguresoftwareandopenit.Thenclickthe
bottomnamedsearchandresettheDTU.IfthesoftwarefindtheDTUamessageboxwillappear.

3.3.1 Serialportsettings
Settingsonthe “DTUCOMConfiguration”framearetheparametersrelatedtoserialport.
3.3.2 IOsettings
Settingsonthe “IOSetting”framearetheparametersrelatedtoIOport.
Therearetwodigitaloutputsandeveryportwitharelay.AndtheoutputIOcanoutputTTLsignaldirectly.
TheinputIOcanreceiveahighlevelandgiveanalarmsignaltodatacenter.Therangevoltageofthehighlevel
is3~12V,thecurrentshouldlessthen30ma.
Noted:Fortheoutputonlythehighlevelisallowed.Andonlyhighalarmisallowedforinput.
3.3.3 Workmode
DTUWorkMode:
Always-on ---- theDTUwillalwaysonline
Awaken ----ifthereisn’tdatatransmitin5minutes,DTUwillcutoffconnectuntilhavea
messageofphonecalltoawake.

ThistimemeanshowlongtheDTUwillreconnectagain.Defaultis30s.
uNoResponseTime
ThismeanstheDTUwillreconnectifnoresponseinthistime.Thistimeshouldbelongerthenthe
HeartbeatTime.Defaultis60s.
uReconnectTimers
Thisitemmeansthe biggest numberofreconnection. Defaultis3.
uMasterServerIP/Port
Theaddressandportnumberofthedatacenter.

Ifusersnothaveadatacenter,theycanuseasoftwareweprovidetoestablishone.Itisveryeasytobuildadata
centerwithyouPC.
InsertthesoftwareCDandsearchforsuchas Server.exe,andthenopenthissoftware.
AfteropenthesoftwaretheserverIPwillappear,forexample:192.168.1.8.
IfyourPCaccesstointernetviaarouter,youshouldmakeaportmappingforyouPC’IPaddressonthe
router,sothattheterminalintheinternetcanaccesstoyoucomputer.IfyouPCaccesstointernetdirectlyand
useastaticIPaddressyouneednottodothis.
WewilluseadynamicIPaddressassignbyrouterasexample.
