4Installation and powersupply
Important
·During connecting andremoving ofsourcesor amplifiers tothe
DNCall unitsofyour audiosystem havetobeswitchedofftopre-
ventdamage ofthe DNCor any ofthe otherconnected units.
·Pleasemake surethatallcablesare inabsolutebest conditions!
Broken shieldsorshort-cutcablescoulddamage the DNC and/or
any other connected unit.
4.1Placement
Important
·Itisrecommended to placethe DNC into a high qualityrackorontoa
stabletable.
·Do notexposetheunitto directsunlight.
·Do notcovertheventilation slots.
·Do notplace the DNC in close range to heatsources like radiators.
·Donotplace theDNC on top ofotherunits,especiallynoton top of
poweramplifiers,preamplifiers orsimilardevicesthatproduce heat.
Both unitscould sufferdamage fromthermaloverload.
·Donotplace otherunitsontop ofthe DNC.Bothunitscouldsuffer
damage fromthermaloverload.
·Do notuse the unit in placeswhereitisexposed to vibrations.
·Donotplace the unit closetoloudspeakers orintothe cornerofa
roomwhereitisexposed tohighlevelsofsonicenergy,which might
reduce the sound qualityofthe unit.
4.2Mainsconnection
The mainsinput2 *isonthebackpanelofthe DNC.Toconnectthedevice
tomainsuse the includedmainscord. Ifyou prefertouse adifferentpower
cord, make sure thatit meetsthe specificationsforyourhome country.

·The electricalspecificationsofyour homecountrymustmeetthe
electricalspecificationsprinted ontothe back panel.
·The DNC isaClassIunit and mustbe earthed. Please ensureastable
earthconnection. Phase(hotpin)ismarked on the backpanel phase
3 .
·Ifyou connectthe mainscordpleasemakesurethatthe mainsswitch
1 on the backpanelisswitched off.
·Neverpull the mainsplugwhilethe DNC isswitched on!Beforeyou
pullthemainscordoff itssocket2 on thebackpanel,powerdown
the unittostand-bymode using power key,and switch offthe unit
usingmainsswitch 1.
Onlyincasesofextended absence– likevacations–orifmassivetrouble
on the mainspowergridistobe expected you shouldswitch off the DNC
fromthe mainsusingmainsswitch 1.Then,todisconnecttheunit com-
pletelyfrommainspowergrid, pullthe mainsplug.
Tip
·Theuseofhighqualitymainscordscan improvesound quality.Ask
yourlocaldealerformoreinformation.
4.3Orientation ofmainsplug
Thecorrectpolarization ofmainsisimportantforreasonsofaudio clarity
and stability. Pleaseconnectthe mainscord sothatthe hotpin ofthe wall
outletisconnected tothe pin ofthe mainsinput2 marked phase 3 .
YourAudionetDNC isable to detecta wrongpolarization ofthe mains
plugduringstart-up. Ifthe message
appears in the display, switch offthe unit and flip themainspluginthe
wall outlet(see section "6.1.3 -Mainsphase detection" on page 19).

5Inputs and outputs
Important
·During connectingandremovingsourcesoramplifierstothe
DNC all unitsofyour audiosystemhave tobeswitched off to
preventdamage ofthe DNC or any ofthe other connectedunits.
·Pleasemake surethatallcablesare inabsolutebest conditions!
Broken shieldsorshort-cutcablescoulddamage the DNC and/or
any other connected unit.
5.1Audioinputs
5.1.1Digital input
Connectyourdigitalsourcestothe electrical(coaxial)digitalinput IN 1
and IN 2 15 *ortothe optical(TosLink)digitalinput IN 4 and IN 5 20 .
Inaddition, thereisaXLRsocket IN 3AES/EBU 14forconnecting
AES/EBUinputsignals.
Note
·Pleasemakesurethatyourdigitalsourcesprovideonlyuncom-
pressed stereo PCMdatatothe digitalinputsofyourDNC.Possibly,
otherunsuitable formats(e.g. Dolby DigitalorDTS data streamsetc.)
couldcause noise.
5.1.1.1AudionetHighBitinput
Inordertosend audiodataacross theAudionetHighBit interface toyour
DNC,connectyoursourcedevice (e.g.ARTG3orVIP G3)with two
digitalcordstothe digitalinputs IN 1 and IN 2.

5.2Audiooutput
TheDNC isequipped withtwopairsofanalogoutputs: BALANCED
OUT 16and LINE OUT 17 fortherightchannel,and BALANCED
OUT 18and LINEOUT 19 forthe leftchannel.
5.3Otherconnections
5.3.1Network, USB, WLAN
TheEthernetport LAN 10 isastandardRJ45 socketfornetworkcables
(Cat-cable, 10/100 MbitBASE-T).
TheWLANport WLAN 21 usesaSMAconnectiontoattach thepro-
vided WLAN antenna.Withthe articulatedjointtheantenna can be
turned intotwo directions.
TheUSBport USB 12isaTYPE-Asocket(USB2.0)forexternalhard
drive, USBsticksetc.
Note
·We recommend usingawired networkconnectionforbestdatatrans-
ferrate and toprovidehighstabilityincontrolwith oursoftware.

5.3.2USB Audio
TheUSBAudioport USBAUDIO 11isaUSBTYPE-B-socket.With
the USBAudioconnection, you areabletoconnectyourDNCwitha
USBcabledirectlytoaPC.Thus,you canuseyourDNC asthesound
device /playbackdeviceforyourPC.Playbackoperatesinasynchronous
mode, thatmeanstheDNC usesitsownclockand you areabletoenjoy
yourmusic withoutdiminishingsound quality.
ForusingUSBAudio, the required driverneedstobe installed on your
PC.ForAppledevicesusingMac OSX10.6.4andhigherasuitable
driverisincludedwithinthe operatingsystem.Toreceivethedriverfor
Windowsbased systemspleasecontactusvia service@audionet.de.
Note
·Thedriverispacked intoazip-file. Toinstallthedriverunpackthe
zip-fileintoafolderofyourchoice.Thenopen thechosen folderand
start the installation processexecutingthe file setup.exe.
·Duringthe installation process, all occurringsecuritywarningscan be
confirmed with 'OK'.
·Duringthe installation process,yourAudionetdevicehastobe con-
nected with yourPCvia anUSBcable.
·Aftersuccessfulinstallation, you can chooseyourDNC asthesound
device /playbackdeviceofyourPC.Forconfiguration,openthesys-
tempreferencesofyourPC.
·Payattention tothe lengthofthe USBcable. Ifthe cableistoo long,
you mightdiminish sound qualityand /orexperience dropoutsduring
playback.
5.3.3FM Antenna Connection
Yourdevice hasan F-seriesconnector13 forantenna connection. An
adaptortocoaxialsocketisdelivered separately.Thisport isspecified for
75 OhmFMantenna oranalogcableTVconnection.
5.3.4Audionet Link
Foryourconvenience, the DNC can be switched on/off byotherAudio-
netunits(e.g.preamplifiers) connected viaAudionetLinkbyasimple
touch on the remote controlorthe power keyon the frontpanel.
You needjusta simpleopticalTosLinkcable. ConnecttheAudionetLink
input LinkIN 8 ofyourDNC to the AudionetLinkoutputofthe control-
lingunit.

The DNC isequippedwithan AudionetLinkinput LinkIN 8 andan
AudionetLinkoutput LinkOUT 9.TheDNC isaslavedevice. Connect
the Audionetmasterdeviceto LinkIN 8 ,otherAudionetslavedevices
can be connected to LinkOUT 9 .Thus,the switchingsignalwill be
passed along.
Tip
·Audionetsource unitsand poweramplifiers areusuallyequipped not
onlywithan AudionetLinkinput,butalsowithanAudionetLink
outputtoconnectfurtherAudionetdevicestobecontrolled via
AudionetLinkinadaisychain. ConnectthisAudionetLinkoutputto
the AudionetLinkinputofthe nextAudionetunit using asimpleop-
ticalTosLinkcableallowingyoutoswitch on/offyourcomplete
AudionetsystembyyourAudionetmasterunit.
Important
·FortheDNC tobe controlled viaAudionetLink,menu item Power-
off mode withinthe Global Setup menu hastobesetto Quick
Start (see section 8.2.4 -Power-off mode on page 37).
5.3.5External power supplyEPSG2 orEPX
Inordertousethe optionalexternalpowersupplyAudionetEPS G2or
AudionetEPXconnectit with the delivered cabletosocket EPS 5 on the
backpanelofyourDNC.Connect both (!!) units (DNC and EPS G2 /
EPX)tomains.First,switchon the DNC withthe mainsswitch1 onits
backpanel.Then switch on theEPS /EPX.NowtheDNC isreadytouse
(stand-bymode).
Switch on the DNC with the power keyon the frontpanelorkey DNx of
the AudionetMetalRemoteControl RC 2.The AudionetEPS G2/EPX
will then be automaticallyswitched on time-delayed.
TodisconnecttheDNC andEPS G2 /EPXfrommains,switchtheDNC
intostand-bymode. Usethe power keyon thefrontpanelorthe key
DNx ontheAudionetMetalRemoteControl RC 2.First,switch offthe
DNC withthemainsswitch1 on thebackpanel,andthenswitch offthe
EPS G2 /EPX.Nowyou maydisconnectthe mainsand EPS G2/EPX
connection cables.
Important
·Never switch on oroff theEPS G2/EPXon itsback panelwhile
the DNC isoperating!
·The DNC isonly tobeused withEPXor withEPSG2 fromserial
number 12.23.10on up. ForEPSor EPS G2witholderserial
numbersthere isno guarantee for properfunctionality!

·Before using the DNC incombination withthe externalpower
supplyEPS G2or EPXpleaseread theuser'smanualofthe
EPS G2 or EPXcarefully!
5.3.6Additional earth connection
Anoptionalgreen-yellowcordforthe additionalearthconnection is
availablefromAudionet.Attachthiscordtothe earthconnector4on
the backpaneloftheDNC and puttheplugintothemainssocketright
besidethemainscordofyourDNC.Thisensuresan additionaland stable
earth connection resultingin a bettersound.
5.3.7Control connections
Usetriggeroutput TRIGGER 7 tocontrol(e.g.switchon/off) non
Audionetdevices.Ifyou switch on the DNC fromstand-bymode, the
triggeroutput7 providesasignalof12 VoltsDC (see section "8.2.8 -
Triggerout" on page 41),which can be re-configured to 5 VoltsDC.
Theserialconnection RS232 6 isan additionalcontrolporttoyourDNC
e.g. forhouse automation systems(Crestron orthe like).
Tip
·Usea3.5 mm telephone mono plugtoconnectadevice tothe trigger
output15 ofyourDNC.The pinningisasfollows:

6Usage
All functionsofthe DNC aremicroprocessorcontrolled. Thisguarantees
highestprecision, exclusivefunctions,easyhandlingand protection
againstoperatingerrors.
6.1Basicoperations
6.1.1Powering up
Firstofall,pleasemakesureyourDNC isconnectedcorrectlytoyour
signalsources,preamplifier(s)and mains(seesection "4 -Installation
and power supply" on page 11 and "5 -Inputsandoutputs"on page
13).
The DNC isastand-byunit.Pleaseoperatethe mainsswitch 1 on the
backpanel.Thedisplayshowsawelcomemessageforabriefmoment.
Afterthatthe DNC isin stand-bymode.
Onlyincasesofextended absence (likevacations)orif massivetrouble
on themainspoweristobe expected (e.g.thunderstorms) itisrecom-
mended todisconnecttheDNC fromthe mains.WhiletheDNC isin
stand-bymode, operatemainsswitch 1 on the backpanel.The display
will godark.Todisconnectthe DNC frommainscompletely,you haveto
pull themainscord offthe mainsjack2 .
Important
·Before you switch offthe DNC frommains,powerdownand dis-
charge completely all unitsconnected tothe outputsofthe DNC.
6.1.2Switching on and off
TopoweruptheDNC fromstand-bymode, press the power keyon the
frontpanel. The DNC issuesthe message:
Incasethe mainsplughastheincorrectpolarization awarningwillap-
pearinthe display(see section "4.3 Orientation ofmains plug" on page
12). Afterthat,the unitisinnormaloperatingmode and readyto use.
Ifyou would like to switch off the unit, please press the power keyon the
frontpanel. The displayshowsthe message
Waking up...

and the unit enters stand-by mode.
Note
·Ofcourse,you mayswitchon/offtheDNC withtheAudionetMetal
Remote Control RC 2. Fordetailed information pleasereferto section
"7 -AudionetMetalRemote ControlRC 2" on page28.
6.1.3Mains phase detection
Thecorrectpolarizationofmainsisimportantforreasonsofaudioclarity
and stability.Pleasealignthe mainscordsothatthehotpinofthewall
outletisconnected tothe pinmarked phase 3ofthe mainsinput2 on
the backpanel.TheDNC recognizestheincorrectpolarization ofthe
mainsplugautomatically.Rightafterswitchingon the unit fromstand-by
mode bypressingthe power key on the frontpanelthe followingmes-
sage willappearinthe displayin casethe mainspolarization isincorrect:
Ifyou gotthe abovemessage, switch offtheunitbypressingthe power
key. Please waituntilthe displayno longerreads:
Disconnectthe DNC frommainsbyoperatingthemainsswitch1 .Now
pull themainsplugand re-insertitintothemainssocketrotated by180°.
Ifyou switch on the unit again, the warningshouldnotappearnow.

·Ifthe DNC issuesthe mainspolarizationwarningornowarningatall
forbothpositionsofthemainsplug,checkthe connection toearthof
yourmainssocketand mainscord. You have toensure astable

6.1.4Using AudionetLink
The DNC isequippedwithan AudionetLinkinput LinkIN 8 andan
AudionetLinkoutput LinkOUT 9 allowingyou toconnectfurther
Audionetunits(e.g.preamplifiers,poweramplifiersorCD player)via
AudionetLink(also see section "5.3.4 -AudionetLink" on page 15).
Ifthe restofyourAudionetsystemisconnectedtoyourDNC viaAudio-
netLink,allunitsconnected totheAudionetLinkoutput LinkOUT 9
will beautomaticallyswitched on/off assoon asthe DNC itselfis
switched on/off via Link IN 8 .
