TheAudionetTeamcongratulatesyou toyourpurchaseofthisexcellent
audiotuner.TheCATbridgesthegapbetweentheclassicand theavant-
garde.Asananalogaudiotuner,it receivesthewell-knownbroadcast
programsinbestquality.Additionally,it canbeconfiguredasadigital
DABtuner ('DigitalAudio Broadcasting').
Westronglyrecommend toreadthemanualand precautions carefully
firstto beaware ofall features yournewAudionetCAT offers.

Installation and powersupply
Place thetuner CATontoahigh-qualityrackorstabledesk. Pleasemake
sure thatyourAudionetCATisinstalledataplace thatissufficiently
ventilatedtoallowtheheattodissipate.Thecoolingslotsmustnotbe
covered.
Themains jack11islocatedattherear paneloftheCAT. Usethepro-
videdpower cordtoconnectthetuner tothemains power supply.Incase
you wouldliketouseadifferentpower cordpleasemakesure it meets
thespecifications ofyourcountry.
Warning:
TheelectricalspecificationsprintedonthebackpaneloftheCAT
mustmeet themains specifications ofyourcountry!
Whenconnectingthepower cordtotheCATmakesure thatthemains
switch11isinoff position. TheCATisaClass Iunit and mustbe
earthed. Pleaseensure asolidearthconnection. Mains phase('hot'pin)is
marked attheback panel('Phase')12.
TheCATisastand byunit.Usethemains switch11atthebackpanelto
switchon theCAT. After ashorttime,thedisplayreads 'Audionet'
indicatingthattheunit is in stand bymodenow.
Onlyincaseofextendedabsence (likevacations)orifmassivetroubleon
themains power istobeexpectedyou shoulddisconnecttheunit from
mains. Switchoff theCATwiththemains switchatthebackpanel11.
Thedisplayturns off.
Note:
Before switchingoff theCATmakesure thatthe(pre-) amplifier the
CATis connectedto is switchedoff, too.

Thecorrectpolarizingofthemains isimportantforreasons ofaudioclar-
ityand stability.Thepinmarkedwith'Phase'12ofthemains jack11has
tobeconnectedtothe'hot'pinofthewall outlet.Therefore,theAudionet
CATindicatesawrongpolarisation ofthemains lead. Whilepowering
up theCATchecks themains polarisation. Ifyou read 'Attention:
Mains Phase incorrect!'switchoff theCATand thenflipthe
plugin yourwall outlet.
Switchoff theCATand disconnecttheunit frommains bypullingthe
power cordoff themains jackatthebackpanel.Usetheprovidedcable
toconnecttheoptionalexternalpower supplyEPS totheinputjack10at
thebackpaneloftheCAT. Usethepower cordprovidedwith theCAT to
connecttheEPS tomains power.Forfurther detailspleaserefer tothe
user's manualofEPS.
Inconnection withanAudionetpre amplifier likePRE1 G2, PREG2or
MAPyourCATcanbeswitchedon oroff bythisunit.Pleaseconnecta
Toslink glasfibre cablefromtheAudionet-Link outputatyourpre ampli-
fier to theAudionet-Link input20attheback oftheCAT.

balancedoutputs(NeutrikXLR)6and lineoutputs(WBTCinch)5.
Connecttheaudiooutputstothecorrespondingaudioinputsofyour(pre)
amplifier.
IfyourCATisequippedwiththeDABModuleyou canusetheunit asa
high-qualityDA-converter.You canconnectup totwodigitalsourcesto
theCAT. There isoneoptical9and onecoax(cinch)input8.Connect
thedigitalinputsofyourCATtothecorrespondingoutputsofyourdigi-
talsources.
TheCAThasonedigitaloutput7.Ifthedigitaloutputisactive,thecur-
rentsignalfromselecteddigitalinput(DACmode) orthecurrentdigital
radioprogram(DABmode) isroutedtodigitalout.Forfurther details,
pleasesee section 'SET DIGITALOUT'.Connectdigitalout7tothe
digitalinputofyourexternalDA-Converter ordigitalrecorder (e.g.CD-,
DAT, orMD-Recorder).

Operating
Usethefourkeysatthefrontpaneltocontrolall functions ofyourCAT.
To controltheCATmore comfortablypleaseusetheoptionalremote
control(see section 'RemoteControl').
Iftheunit isinstand bymode(mains switch11ison),you canswitchon
theCATbypressingthePOWERkey.UsingthePOWERkeyagainthe
CAT returns to stand bymode.
Note:All user and setup options, presets, currentreceiver modeand fre-
quencyare savedand are availableafter switchingon again. Thelast
modebefore switchingoff tostand bymodewill berestored. All saved
information are non-volatileevenafter disconnectingtheCATfromthe
mains power.
UsetheSET keytoselectanoption fromthemenu. Thismenu consists
ofuser options dependingon thecurrentreceiver mode(FM orDAB)and
setup options fortheCAT. You navigatethroughtheoptions pressingthe
SET keyforashortoralongtime(> 2 sec).Detailedinformation about
all user and setup options canbefound inthefollowingchapters. Please
refer to chapter 'OverviewofSetup/User Options'foraquick overview.
To switchtothenextreceiver modepress SET keylonger than 2 sec. The
newmodewill bedisplayed. You canskipthroughall possible4receiver
modes cyclically:

Setup options
Displaybrightness can beadjusted in 4 steps usingUP/DOWNkeys.
Note: Whileadjustingbrightness staysat100%.Ifbrightness isselected
to 'Off', thedisplayshuts down severalseconds after lastuser input.
WARNING:
Longtermusageofthedisplaysettomaximumbrightness (setting
100%) maycauseextendedsigns ofwear resultinginadecayofcontrast
orbrightness ofindividualdotsinthedisplay.Donotusethedisplay
withabrightness sethigher thanthefactorydefault settingof50%over a
longer period oftime.
Default:50%
Note: This option is onlyavailableifoptionalDABModuleis installed!
ActivatethedigitaloutputoftheCAT, ifyou liketodo digitalrecordings
ofoneofthedigitalsourcesconnectedtotheCAT(DACmode) orofthe
currentstation ofdigitalbroadcasting(DABmode).
Note: Withdigitaloutputactivated, samplerateofselecteddigitalsource
and digitaloutput(DACmode) are thesame.InDABmodesamplerate
ofoutputisalways48kHz. Ifthedigitaloutputisactivatedthereis no
signalattheanalog outputs!
Press UPkeytoactivatedigitaloutput.Iftheunit isinDABmodethe
displayindicatesactivateddigitaloutbythesymbol'DO'(= DigitalOut)
intheupper leftcorner.InDACmodethesecond lineofdisplayreads
'DAC Digit.Out On', ifdigitaloutis active.
Press DOWNkeytodeactivatethedigitaloutput.Thedisplayswitches
backtonormalmode.Amusicsignalisonlyavailableattheanalogout-
puts. All digitalinputsignalsare processedbyAudionet's Intelligent
Sampling – Technologybefore beingconverted fromdigitalto analog.
NOTE: OnlyinDABorDACmodeanoutputsignalwill beavailableat
thedigitaloutput!

startautomaticsearchincorrespondingdirection. Searchstops atnext

toadifferentvalue(e.g.byusingtheautomaticsearchin'Preset'mode)

Press UP(or'CH+'on theremotecontrol)forloadingnextorpress
DOWN(or'CH-'on theremotecontrol)forloadingprevious preset.
You canstill startautomaticsearchbypressingUP/DOWNlonger than2
sec.
Note: You canswitchbetween'Scan'and 'Preset'modemuchmore com-
fortablyusingkey'Preset/Scan'(screen 3)on theoptionalremotecontrol.

type(PTY). PTYis partofRadio DataServices (RDS).
Availablelanguages:English, German, Swedish, Dutch and Spanish.
Note: Information abouttheprogramtypeisonlyavailablewithFMsta-
tions supportingRDS.Also, User option 'SetRDSOption'hastobeset
to 'Prog. Type(PTY)'.

Presets
TheCAToffersup to99 presetstosavestations. You cansavethere-
ceiver mode(FM, AMorDAB)and thefrequencyofthecurrentlytuned
station. InDABmodethecorrespondingEnsembletoatunedService is
saved, too. Presetnumberscanbeselectedfreelyintherangefrom1to
99.
TunetheCATtothestation you wanttosave.Fordetailshowtotune
pleaserefer tothefollowingchapters. Press SET key shortlytwice to
enter savemenu. Displayshows'SAVE PRESET: 0 '.UseUPand
DOWNkeys to selectthe1st digit ofthepresetnumber.
Press theSET keylonger than2sec toproceed. NowusetheUPand
DOWNkeys to selectthe2nd digit ofthepresetnumber.
Press SET longer than2sec againtoproceed. Thepresetnumber isnow
enteredcompletely.Displayshows'SET =save'inthe2nd line.Ifyou
are sure tosavethecurrentstation totheselectedpresetnumber press
SET keyonce more longer than2sec.Ifyou wouldliketoquit save
menu, press SET keyshortly.To selectadifferentpresetnumber,please
selectsavemenu again.
Note:You canalwaysquit thesavemenu bypressingtheSET key
shortly.
You cansavethecurrentstation muchmore comfortablybyusingthe
optionalremotecontrol.Press key'SAVE'on screen1intheCATdevice
menu. Thedisplayshows'SAVE PRESET: '.Usenumber keyson
thesamescreen oftheremotecontrolto enter presetnumber. After typing
the2nd number thedisplayshows'Enter =save'.Press 'ENTER'key
to savecurrentstation to selected presetnumber.

Press SET keylonger than2sec toproceed. Thepresetnumber isnow
enteredcompletely.Press SET keylonger than2sec againtoloadse-
lectedpreset.Thedisplayshows'loading...'inthesecond linewhile
loadingthepreset.

broadcaster).
Press keyUPor'CH+'to force mono reception.
Default:Stereo

SelectsensitivityofFMreceiver dependingon levelofinput(antenna)
signal.
Press keyUPor'CH+'toconfigure theFMreceiver forhighlevelinput
signals (e.g. cableradio). Thedisplayshows 'Cable'.
Press keyDOWNor'CH-'toswitchinputsensitivitytolowlevelinputs

SEARCH LEVEL FM
Adjustthethresholdofautomaticsearchfunction in3steps. Thegreater
thethresholdthestronger thesignalofastation hastobeinorder tobe
detected bytheautomaticsearch function.
UsekeyUPor'CH+'toincreasethethreshold. To decreasethethreshold
press keyDOWNor'CH-'.
There are three threshold steps available: 70dBu, 80dBu and 90dBu.
Iftheautomaticsearchfunction stops too oftenwithoutfindingasuitable
station, increasethreshold.
Ifnotall stations are found bythesearch function, decreasethreshold.
Default:70dBu

To receive Digital Audio Broadcasting(DAB)theoptionalDABModule
has to beinstalled in yourCAT. Themodulecan beinstalled later.
To enter DABmodepress SET keyatthefrontpanellonger than2sec.
Dependingon currentmodetheCATisinyou mighthavetopush the
SET keyseveraltimes to getinto DABmode(see chapter 'Operating').
Press 'DAB'key(screen2)on theoptionalremotecontroltogetdirectly
into DABmodemore comfortably.
In DABmodethedisplayshows thefollowinginformation:
