OWNER’S GUIDE
DESCRIPTION
The 250AM is a superb multi-purpose compact
loudspeaker developed to provide outstanding
performance in stereo audio systems and home
theaters alike.
CONTENTS
1.....….DESCRIPTION The 250AM is a two-way bass reflex design (Fb
40Hz) utilizing three magnetically shielded
drivers: two 5” aluminum cone midbass drivers
and one ¾” synthetic dome tweeter. The baffle
area about the tweeter is coated with a pressed
wool felt to damp reflections and reduce
diffraction artifacts. Internally the speaker
employs a combination of crimped fiberglass
batting and open-cell foam to control rear-wave
energy. The ¾” MDF cabinet employs twin shelf
braces to prevent panel resonance. The
250AM’s circuit components include the finest
metallized polypropylene capacitors, non-
inductive metal-oxide film resistors, and
hexagonally wound air-core high-purity copper
inductors. Teflon®-jacketed 14-gauge silver-
plated oxygen-free copper internal wire is used
throughout. All components are wired point-to-
point for a minimum of discontinuities in the
signal path. Every aspect of the 250AM design
has been thoughtfully engineered to yield
astounding performance and value.

PLACEMENT
Positioning
Please experiment as much as possible to
determine the optimum orientation for your
loudspeakers and treatment of your particular
listening room.
Note: The 250AM’s front grille is an integral part
of its design and sonic performance and
subsequently is non-removable.
• The 250AM may be placed either vertically
or horizontally. For optimum performance, the
speaker should be placed on a dedicated, inert
loudspeaker stand 24 to 33 inches (61 to 84
cm) tall, and at least 16 inches (41 cm) from
the wall behind it.
• The 250AM is magnetically shielded to
permit placement near television or computer
monitors in a home theater or computer audio
system.
• For best stereo imaging, each loudspeaker
should be an equal distance from the main
listening position. Left and right speakers
should be in symmetry with the room.
• Imaging and spaciousness will improve as
the speakers and/or listening position is moved
away from nearby walls.
• For more bass reinforcement, move the
speakers closer to the room corners, or move
the speakers and/or listening position closer to
the wall behind.
• For optimum results, make certain there are
no objects between the speakers and the
listening area (e.g. a coffee table)—or any
large objects near the speakers or listeners—
that will cause reflections to degrade
performance.
• Experiment with the horizontal angle the
speaker is pointed, or degree of “toe-in”, to
optimize image focus of stereo pairs. Listen to
correlated (left channel = right channel) pink
noise or any monophonic recording, and
experiment aiming the speakers to optimize the
strength of a coherent central image
• Ideally the listening room should be
acoustically neutral—neither “live”, with
excessive reflective surfaces, nor “dead”, with
excessive absorbent surfaces. If necessary,
contact your Auvia Loudspeakers dealer for
specific recommendations on room treatment.
Bumper Feet
Four soft polyurethane bumpers are included for
use beneath the cabinet. These bumpers are
important to isolate the cabinet from the
environment, and set the natural resonance of
the cabinet to the sub-sonic range. Use of the
self-adhesive backing is optional, though it is
recommended to minimize the bumpers’
compression.

WIRING
Speaker Cable Selection
The quality and type of speaker cable used can
have a dramatic impact on system performance.
However, since it is the relationship of the
driving amplifier, cables, and speakers that
determines ultimate sound quality, and because
listener preference is a factor, we cannot offer
any specific cable recommendations.
In general, speaker cables should be of equal
length if possible, and as short as possible. The
following chart may be used to select an
appropriate minimum wire gauge given a cable
run length.
Wire Gauge
(AWG)
Length
(feet)
Length
(meters)
8 58 18
10 34 10
12 22 7
14 14 4
16 9 3

Connections
Be sure your amplifier is off before making
connections. This will avoid damage that may
result due to accidental shorting of the speaker
cables.
Be certain to observe correct polarity, or phase,
when connecting any loudspeaker to your
amplifier. The positive (red) terminal on the
loudspeaker must be connected to positive
terminal on the amplifier, and the negative
(black) terminal on the loudspeaker must be
connected to the negative terminal on the
amplifier. Also be sure that you make a very tight
connection between the binding post and the
cable connector. Periodic inspection of all
connections is recommended.
PERFORMANCE
Break-In
For optimum performance, new speakers should
be broken-in prior to regular listening. This may
be accomplished by playing moderately loud,
dynamic music or break-in disc for a total of at
least 50 hours. Make certain your amplifier does
not clip from being overdriven, as the heat
generated will damage the loudspeaker! Please
note that damage resulting from abuse is not
covered in the product warranty, and sustained
excessive volume levels should be avoided!
Signal Purity
The 250AM is optimized for use with high-quality
front-end equipment (including cabling) without
use of extraneous processing. If your audio
system offers any such processing –
equalization, loudness, tone controls, DSP
effects, or other enhancement – it should be
turned off for optimum performance. Consult the
instructions supplied with your other equipment
to ensure your audio signal is kept as pure as
possible.
POWER
The recommended power rating is provided as a
guideline. In practice, to prevent damage to any
loudspeaker, avoid volume levels beyond where
the sound is “clear”. If the sound becomes
distorted or strained, immediately reduce the
volume.
Higher-powered amplifiers are actually safer for
loudspeakers, all else equal, because insufficient
amplification causes distortion that can easily
damage a loudspeaker.
