Therearedifferentexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andgaintoimproveimagequalitfor
specicsurveillancescenes.GotoSettings>Image>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlicker-free.
Selectthesamefrequencasthepowerlinefrequenc.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand
sunduringdatime,selectFlicker-reduced.
Selectthesamefrequencasthepowerlinefrequenc.
•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.

Viewarea
Whenousetupaviewarea,werecommendoutosetthevideostreamresolutiontothesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea
size.Ifousetthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewareasizeitimpliesdigitallscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,
whichrequiresmorebandwidthwithoutaddingimageinformation.
Handlesceneswithstrongbacklight
Dnamicrangeisthedifferenceinlightlevelsinanimage.Insomecasesthedifferencebetweenthedarkestandthebrightest
areascanbesignicant.Theresultisoftenanimagewhereeitherthedarkorthebrightareasarevisible.Widednamicrange
(WDR)makesbothdarkandbrightareasoftheimagevisible.

Maximumbitrate(MBR)
Withmaximumbitrate,oucansetatargetbitratetohandlebitratelimitationsinoursstem.Youmaseeadeclineinimage
qualitorframeratewhentheinstantaneousbitrateiskeptbelowthespeciedtargetbitrate.Youcanchoosetoeitherprioritize
imagequalitorframerate.Werecommendthatoucongurethetargetbitratetoahighervaluethantheexpectedbitrate.This
givesouamarginforadditionalcomplexitthatneedstobecaptured.

Averagebitrate(ABR)
Withaveragebitrate,thebitrateisautomaticalladjustedoveralongertimescale.Thisissooucanmeetthespeciedtargetand
providethebestvideoqualitbasedonouravailablestorage.Bitrateishigherinsceneswithalotofactivit,comparedtostatic
scenes.Youaremorelikeltogetbetterimagequalitwhenneededwhenusingtheaveragebitrateoption.Youcandenethetotal
storagerequiredtostorethevideostreamforaspeciedamountoftime(retentiontime)whenimagequalitisadjustedtomeetthe
speciedtargetbitrate.Speciftheaveragebitratesettingsinoneofthefollowingwas:
•Tocalculatetheestimatedstorageneed,setthetargetbitrateandtheretentiontime.
•Tocalculatetheaveragebitrate,basedonavailablestorageandrequiredretentiontime,usethetargetbitratecalculator.

displaedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotion
videotheratemustbeatleast16imageframespersecond.Fullmotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalitandaccesstoeverimage
containedinthestream.

H.264isalicensedtechnolog.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264viewingclientlicense.Toinstalladditionalunlicensed

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequalit,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebmorethan80%comparedtotheMotion
JPEGformatandbasmuchas50%comparedtotheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherwa,highervideoqualitcanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.
