Introduction

This is a stand-alone,unpowered cyclone dust collector/
interceptor. It uses the cyclone head from the Craft
AC118CE Cyclone Dust Extractor. It is designed to be used
with a standard High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) chip
extractor to provide the airflow. Using this interceptor,
you can create a wood dust and chip extractor which will
handle even fine dusts from drum sanders. You can either
use this unit to
upgrade your current workshop chip extraction system
(with the typical bag filter) or place this unit next to a drum
or belt sander to intercept the fine dust before the air
stream reaches the chip extractor.
It has a generous 118 litre waste bin, and castors to allow
easy mobility around the workshop.
It is fitted with 102mm inlet and outlets, which suits many
common woodworking machines. We recommend using a
chip extractor with at least a 1.5hp motor, such as the Craft
AC82E.
Building a Waste Container

Once you have the interceptor head mounted onto your
waste container, it is just a matter of connection. This is
simplicity itself, just an inlet connection from the dust
producing machine (A) and an outlet (B) to the air volume
source,typically a (HVLP) chip extractor.
In use, you should expect around 90-97% separation of
the wood waste from the air stream,in simple terms the
amount of waste reaching the chip extractor will be a
small fraction of the waste produced.
This is just the Cyclone body unit only, with 102mm inlet
and outlets with a flange mounting on the bottom to
allow you to use your own waste container. This gives great
flexibility of choice, size and mounting position within the
workshop. We recommend using a chip extractor with at
least a 1.5hp (1.1kW) motor,1,000 m3/hr air flow.

To use, you will need to build a waste container to suit your
application, making sure that it is air tight, and can be
emptied easily. These are commonly made from 12mm
plywood. An alternative container can be made by using
an open metal or plastic container and manufacturing a
suitable air tight lid.Be careful not to make too large
a container, think of the weight involved in emptying it of
wood waste. The cyclone will need to be mounted onto the
lid, so make sure that the lid is strong enough to take the
weight. Use an appropriate sealer between the interceptor
flange and container lid.
