I. Specifications
Instructions FUME
FUME is a photoelectric smoke alarm, which is more effective at detecting smoldering fires that have been going for
a few hours without any sing of fire, before bursting into flames.
Those smoldering fires are linked to cigarettes left still burning in beds and/or couches.

For single floor houses, the most important location is the pathways, then as a precaution you should also install
FUME in each room!
For houses with more than 1 floor, placing 1 sensor in each staircase is essential for maximum prevention (Figure 1).
For additional protection you should place at least one alarm in every floor, attic and basements.

If for some reason you can´t install FUME in the middle of the ceiling, you must place it at least 10 cm away from the
corner.
If you chose to install FUME on a wall, be sure to place it at least 10cm and at a maximum of 30.5cm from the corner
between the wall and the ceiling (Figure 2).
Install an alarm next to every power outlet.
Always place Fume in the middle of the ceiling, since hot air tends to be higher than cooler air.

If your placing FUME on a pre made house make sure to follow the following instruction very carefully:
Normally pre made houses have poor heat isolation, as such you should install the alarm on a wall and place it at
10-30.5cm away from the ceiling.
If the full length of the wall you’ve selected exceeds 9m, you’ll need to place 2 FUMES to cover it full fully.
If you’re placing FUME on a triangular roof, please make sure to install it 0.9m away from the top corner (Figure 3).
Figure 3
Figure 2
As a precaution you should install a FUME in your bedroom.
FUME should not be placed where combustion particles are produced such as, poorly ventilated kitchen, garages, and
furnaces.
If you intend to install FUME in a similar place to the ones mentioned above, make sure to place FUME at least 6m from
sources of combustion particles (furnace, water heater, heaters), and try to ventilate this areas as much as possible.
If placed in a kitchen keep it away from air currents, as cooking smoke can be drawin by FUME.
III. Recommended places where you shouldn’t install FUME
Do not install in places where there’s accumulated dust, dirt and grease. Please don’t place it above the stove.
Try to keep FUME’s vicinity as clear from dust and lint as possible.
Steamy and damp areas are to be avoided as well as areas with showers (bathroom, saunas). Keep FUME 3m away
from showers.
Do not install in places where the temperature is constantly below 4.4ºC or above 37.8ºC.

Be careful of fresh air currents, or drafty areas as the air can keep the smoke from reaching FUME.
Always keep 30mm distance from florescent lamps as the electromagnetic field may influence the alarm.
If you have a designated area for smoking, be careful and don’t place it directly above said area.
Hold on to the base and push the hinges counterclockwise, to remove the said base. If you’re having trouble removing
the base, please do as showed the diagram 4, and use a screwdriver.
Hold the base against the wall and mark with a pencil the place where the slots will be placed.
III. How to install FUME
Place the alarm where it won’t be hit by dust as you drill the holes.
Using a 6.5mm drill, drill a hole through each marks made with the pencil, be careful and don´t go beyond 35mm
for depth.
Insert the plastic screws anchors into the holes and tap them gently with a hammer. Tighten the 3-30 screws
into those anchors and loosen them with 2 turns (Figure 5).
Slide the base up to the screw heads, matching the narrow slots tightening the screws.
If you’re using the battery, be sure to unscrew the screws fixing the battery cover, then place the 9V battery into
the slot closing the cover and tightening the screws (Figure 6).

It is important to perform a regular test, preferably weekly, to make sure it’s working properly.
Don´t use fire to test FUME. To test it, you need to press the test button until the alarm starts, if it doesn’t start
make sure that FUME is receiving current and test it again. If it still doesn’t work try changing the battery, in case
all the above don´t work please replace the seller.
IV. Test
The signal flashes every 30s when FUME is on, in case of an activation it will flash every half second.
If FUME starts making a noise like “chirp” it means you need to change the battery.
Small pockets of smoke will not trigger the alarm, so fall positives will only occur if you forget to use your fume cupboard
while cooking, or if you’re smoking directly under it.
Call the fire department immediately after confirming it.
V. What to do in case of Fire
Keep calm please leave your house accordingly, don’t stop to pick up clothes or get dressed.
Feel the doors, if they are hot to the touch don’t open it, and try to find another route. If it’s cold to the touch open it
slowly.
Take a wet cloth and cover your face. Take slow and shallow breaths.
If the alarm goes off and there’s no sign of smoke/fire please check to see if there’s a fluorescent
lamp near FUME, if so then place fume further from the lamp.
