6. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE
A SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY MAY CAUSE A
BATTERY EXPLOSION. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF
A SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY:
IMPORTANT
Do not start tKe veKiFle witKtKe FKarger
FonneFted to tKe $C outlet, or it may
damage tKe FKarger and your veKiFle.
6.1 Position tKe $C and DC FaEles to reduFe tKe risk of damage Ey tKe Kood, door and moving
or Kot engine parts. NOTE: ,f it is neFessary to Flose tKe Kood during tKe FKarging proFess,
ensure tKat tKe Kood does not touFK tKe metal part of tKe Eattery FonneFtors or Fut tKe
insulation of tKe FaEles.
6.2 Stay Flear of fan Elades, Eelts, pulleys and otKer parts tKat Fan Fause inMury.
6.3 CKeFk tKe polarity of tKe Eattery posts. 7Ke P2S,7,9E P2S, P, Eattery post usually Kas
a larger diameter tKan tKe 1E*$7,9E 1E*, 1, -post.
6.4 Determine wKiFK post of tKe Eattery is grounded FonneFtedto tKe FKassis. TKe Eattery
terminal not FonneFted to tKe FKassis Kas to Ee FonneFted ¿rst. TKe otKer FonneFtion is to
Ee made to tKe FKassis, remote from tKe Eattery and fuel line. See steps 6.5 and 6.6. TKe
Eattery FKarger is tKen to Ee FonneFted to tKe supply mains. TKe FonneFtion to tKe supply
mains is to Ee in aFFordanFe witKtKe national wiring rules.
6.5 For a negative-grounded veKiFle, FonneFt tKe P2S,T,9E REDFonneFtor from tKe
Eattery FKarger to tKe P2S,T,9E P2S, P, ungrounded post of tKe Eattery. ConneFt
tKe 1E*$T,9E B/$CKFonneFtor to tKe veKiFle FKassis or engine EloFk away from tKe
Eattery. Do not FonneFt tKe FonneFtor to tKe FarEuretor, fuel lines or sKeet-metal Eody
parts. ConneFt to a Keavy gauge metal part of tKe frame or engine EloFk.
6.6 For a positive-grounded veKiFle, FonneFt tKe 1E*$T,9E B/$CKFonneFtor from tKe
Eattery FKarger to tKe 1E*$T,9E 1E*, 1, -ungrounded post of tKe Eattery. ConneFt tKe
P2S,T,9E REDFonneFtor to tKe veKiFle FKassis or engine EloFk away from tKe Eattery.
Do not FonneFt tKe FonneFtor to tKe FarEuretor, fuel lines or sKeet-metal Eody parts.
ConneFt to a Keavy gauge metal part of tKe frame or engine EloFk.
6.7 ConneFt FKarger $C supply Ford to eleFtriFal outlet.
6.8 After FKarging, disFonneFt tKe Eattery FKarger from tKe supply mains. TKen remove tKe
FKassis FonneFtion and tKen tKe Eattery FonneFtion.
6.9 See Operating Instructions for lengtKof FKarge information.
7. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE
A SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY MAY CAUSE A
BATTERY EXPLOSION. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF
A SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY:
7.1 CKeFk tKe polarity of tKe Eattery posts. TKe
P2S,T,9E P2S, P, Eattery post usually Kas a larger
diameter tKan tKe 1E*AT,9E 1E*, 1, -post.
7.2 AttaFK at least a 61 Fm 24-inFK long 7 AW*10 mm2insulated Eattery FaEle to tKe
1E*AT,9E 1E*, 1, -Eattery post.
7.3 ConneFt tKe P2S,T,9E REDFKarger FonneFtor to tKe P2S,T,9E P2S, P, post of tKe
Eattery.
7.4 Position yourself and tKe free end of tKe FaEle you previously attaFKed to tKe 1E*AT,9E
1E*, 1, -Eattery post as far away from tKe Eattery as possiEle ±tKen FonneFt tKe
1E*AT,9E B/ACKFKarger FonneFtor to tKe free end of tKe FaEle.
7.5 Do not faFe tKe Eattery wKen making tKe ¿nal FonneFtion.
7.6 ConneFt FKarger AC supply Ford to eleFtriFal outlet.
7.7 WKen disFonneFting tKe FKarger, always do so in tKe reverse order of tKe FonneFting
proFedure and Ereak tKe ¿rst FonneFtion wKile as far away from tKe Eattery as praFtiFal.
7.8 A marine EoatEattery must Ee removed and FKarged on sKore. To FKarge it onEoard
reTuires eTuipment speFially designed for marine use.
