On Safety
1. This product shou d be operated from an AC power source.
Power input is autoranging from 90 V to 230V.

fit into a grounding-type power out et. This is a safety feature. If you are unab e to insert the p ug into the out et, contact your

Caution on Fire Hazard
Do not p ace f ammab e or combustib e materia s near projector !
BARCO arge screen projection products are designed and manufactured to meet the most stringent safety regu ations. This projector
radiates heat on its externa surfaces and from venti ation ducts during norma operation, which is both norma and safe.
Exp osing f ammab e or combustib e materia s into c ose proximity of this projector cou d resu t in the spontaneous ignition of that
materia , resu ting in a fire. For this reason, it is abso ute y necessary to eave an "exc usion zone" around a externa surfaces of
the projector whereby no f ammab e or combustib e materia s are present. The exc usion zone must be not ess that 10 cm (4") for
Barco Retro Projectors. Do not cover the projector with any materia whi e the projector is in operation.
Keep f ammab e and combustib e materia s away from the projector at a times. Mount the projector is a we venti ated area away
from sources of ignition and out of direct sun ight. Never expose the pojector to rain or excessive moisture. In the event of fire,
use sand, CO2, or dry powder fire extinguishers; never use water on ane ectrica fire.
A ways have service performed on this projector by authorized BARCO service personne . A ways insist on genuine BARCO
rep acement parts. Never use non-BARCO rep acement parts as they may degrade the safety of this projector.
On installation
1. Do not p ace this equipment on an unstab e cart, stand, or tab e. The product may fa , causing serious damage to it.
2. Do not use this equipment near water.
3. S ots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for venti ation; to ensure re iab e operation of the product
and to protect it from overheating, these openings must not be b ocked or covered. The openings shou d never be b ocked by
p acing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other simi ar surface. This product shou d never be p aced near or over a radiator
or heat register.
The projector shou d not be p aced in a bui t-in insta ation or enc osure un ess proper venti ation is provided.
4. Do not b ock the projector coo ing fans or free air movement under and around the projector. Loose papers or other objects
may not be nearer to the projector than 4" on any side.
On servicing
Do not attempt to service this product yourse f, as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous vo tage potentia s
and risk of e ectric shock!
Refer a servicing to qua ified service personne .
Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions:
a. When the power cord or p ug is damaged or frayed.
b. If iquid has been spi ed into the equipment.
c.If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
d. If the product does not operate norma y when the operating instructions are fo owed.
Note : Adjust on y those contro s that are covered by the operating instructions since improper adjustment of the other contro s
may resu t in damage and wi often require extensive work by a qua ified technician to restore the product to norma operation.
e. If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.
f. If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance, indicating a need for service.
Replacement parts - When rep acement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used origina BARCO rep acement
parts or authorized rep acement parts which have the same characteristics as the BARCO origina part. Unauthorized substitutions
may resu t in degraded performance and re iabi ity, fire, e ectric shock or other hazards. Unauthorized substitutions may void
warranty.
Safety check - Upon comp etion of any service or repairs to this projector, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to
determine that the product is in proper operating condition.
On cleaning
Unp ug this product from the wa out et before c eaning. Do not use iquid c eaners or aeroso c eaners. Use a damp c oth for c eaning.
-To keep the cabinet ooking brand-new, periodica y c ean it with a soft c oth. Stubborn stains may be removed with a c oth ight y
dampened with mi d detergent so ution. Never use strong so vents, such as thinner or benzine, or abrasive c eaners, since these
wi damage the cabinet.
- To ensure the highest optica performance and reso ution, the projection enses are specia y treated with an anti-ref ective coating,
therefore, avoid touching the ens. To remove dust on the ens, use a soft dry c oth. Do not use a damp c oth, detergent so ution,
or thinner.

On repacking
Save the origina shipping carton and packing materia ; they wi come in handy if you ever have to ship your equipment. For maximum
protection, repack your set as it was origina y packed at the factory.
On illumination
In order to obtain the best qua ity for the projected image, it is essentia that the ambient ight which is a owed to fa on the screen
be kept to an abso ute minimum.
When insta ing the projector and screen, care must be taken to avoid exposure to ambient ight direct y on the screen. Avoid adverse
i umination on the screen from direct sun ight or f uorescent ighting fixtures.
The use of contro ed ambient ighting, such as incandescent spot ight or a dimmer, is recommended for proper room i umination.
Where possib e, care shou d a so be taken to ensure that the f oors and wa s of the room in which the projector is to be insta ed are
non-ref ecting, dark surfaces. Brighter surfaces wi tend to ref ect and diffuse the ambient ight and hence reduce the contrast of
the projected image on the screen.

Take the p ojecto out of its shipping ca ton.
Be awa e of the weight of the p ojecto : 85 kg (188 lbs).
To ca y the p ojecto , 2 pe sons a e needed.
The p ojecto is fixed on a wooden plate with 4 M6 sc ews.
Hint
Save the o iginal shipping ca ton and packing mate ial, which will come in handy if you eve have to ship you p ojecto . Fo maximum
p otection, epack you p ojecto as it was o iginally packed at the facto y.

Installation Guidelines
Ambient Temperature Conditions
Careful consi eration of things such as image size, ambient light level, projector placement an type of screen to use are critical
to the optimum use of the projection system.
Operation temperature :
Max. ambient temperature : 40 °C (104°F)
Min. ambient temperature : 0 °C (32°F).
The projector will not operate if ambient air temperature falls outsi e this range (0°C- 40°C) (32°F-104°F).
Storage temperature : -35 °C to + 65 °C (-25.6°F to 149°F)
Humidity Conditions
Storage : 0 - 98% RH Non-con ensing
Operation : 0 - 95% RH Non-con ensing
Environment
Do not install the projection system in a site near heat sources such as ra iators or air ucts, or in a place subject to irect sunlight,
excessive ust or humi ity. Be aware that room heat rises to the ceiling; check that temperature near the installation site is not
excessive.
Environment condition check
Warning: Harmful Environmental Contamination Precaution
A projector must always be mounte in a manner which ensures the free flow of clean air into the projectors ventilation inlets. For
installations in environments where the projector is subject to airborne contaminants such as that pro uce by smoke machines
or similar (these eposit a thin layer of greasy resi ue upon the projectors internal optics an imaging electronic surfaces, egra ing
performance), then it is highly a visable an esirable to have this contamination remove prior to it reaching the projectors clean
air supply. Devices or structures to extract or shiel contaminate air well away from the projector are a prerequisite, if this is not
a feasible solution then measures to relocate the projector to a clean air environment shoul be consi ere .
Only ever use the manufactures recommen e cleaning kit which has been specifically esigne for cleaning optical parts, never
use in ustrial strength cleaners on a projectors optics as these will egra e optical coatings an amage sensitive optoelectronic
components. Failure to take suitable precautions to protect the projector from the effects of persistant an prolonge air contaminants
will culminate in extensive an irreversible ingraine optical amage. At this stage cleaning of the internal optical units will be non-
effective an impracticable. Damage of this nature is un er no circumstances covere un er the manufactures warranty an may
eem the warranty null an voi . In such a case the client shall be hel solely responsible for all costs incurre uring any repair.
It is the clients responsibility to ensure at all times that the projector is protecte from the harmful effects of hostile airborne particles
in the environment of the projector. The manufacture reserves the right to refuse repair if a projector has been subject to wantful
neglect, aban on or improper use.
Ambient light
The ambient light level of any room is ma e up of irect or in irect sunlight an the light fixtures in the room. The amount of ambient
light will etermine how bright the image will appear. So, avoi irect light on the screen as much as possible.
Win ows that face the screen shoul be covere by opaque rapery while the set is being viewe . It is esirable to install the projecting
system in a room whose walls an floor are of non-reflecting material. The use of recesse ceiling lights an a metho of imming
those lights to an acceptable level is also important. Too much ambient light results in a wash out of the projecte image. This appears
as less contrast between the arkest an lightest parts of the image. With bigger screens, the wash out becomes more important.
As a general rule, arken the room to the point where there is just sufficient light to rea or write comfortably. Spot lighting is esirable
for illuminating small areas so that interference with the screen is minimal.

Which screen type?
There are two major categories of screens use for projection equipment. Those use for front projecte images an those for rear
projection applications.
Screens are rate by how much light they reflect (or transmit in the case of rear projection systems) given a etermine amount
of light projecte towar them. The GAIN of a screen is the term use . Front an rear screens are both rate in terms of gain. The
gain of screens range from a white matte screen with a gain of 1 (x1) to a brushe aluminize screen with a gain of 10 (x10) or more.
The choice between higher an lower gain screens is largely a matter of personal preference an another consi eration calle the
Viewing angle.
In consi ering the type of screen to choose, etermine where the viewers will be locate an go for the highest gain screen possible.
A high gain screen will provi e a brighter picture but re uce the viewing angle.
Image sizing
The BARCOREALITY 909 is esigne for projecting an image wi th from 1.4m (4.6') to 6m (20') with an aspect ratio of 4 to 3. It
leaves the BARCO factory, a juste as a ceiling/front projector for a screen wi th of 2.4m (7.8'). Changing the image size from the
factory preset size requires a realignment of the projector.

Projector Configuration
Which configuration can be used
The projector can be installe to project images in four ifferent configurations (image 1):
rear/ceiling,
rear/table,
front/ceiling or
front/table.

Positioning the Projector
The projector shoul be installe perpen icular with the screen on a istance PD an water levele in both irections.

Battery installation in the RCU.
How are the batteries delivered ?
Two batteries are packe together with the power cor . Before using your RCU, install first these batteries.
How to install ?
1 Remove the battery cover on the backsi e by pushing the han le a little towar s the bottom of the RCU (Image 1).
2 Lift up the top si e of the cover at the same time (Image 1).
3 Insert the batteries as in icate in the RCU (Image 2).
4 Put the battery cover on its place.

Opening the top cover
During t e projector setup and installation it is necessary to open t e top cover. Follow t e procedure described below :
1 Turn t e locking screw wit a screwdriver counter clockwise (Image 1).
Caution:
T e projector's top cover is not supported wit locking inge. Open wit care and support t e cover wit your and.
2 Lift up and pivot t e top cover backwards (Image 2).

Reinstalling the top cover
To reinstall t e top cover on t e projector :
1 Place t e top cover back on t e projector.
2 Bring t e two parts of t e inges rig t in front of eac ot er (Image 2).
3 Insert t e andles back in t e inges.
4 Secure t e locking screw by turning it clockwise wit a screwdriver.
Removing the top cover
During some installations, it will be convenient to remove t e top cover from t e projector totally.
Proceed as follows :
1 Disengage t e left axis A (Image 1) by pulling it out of t e inge.
2 Proceed t e same way for t e rig t axis.
3 T e top cover being disengaged it can now be lifted up from t e projector.

Access to the connectors
1 Open t e top cover and remove it from t e projector (see 'Removing top cover' );
2 Loosen t e 3 retaining screws on eac side of t e projector (Image 1);
3 Open t e protection plate and pivot it forward (toward lenses) (Image 2).

T e scan connectors must be placed in t e correct position w ic corresponds to t e desired scanning configuration.
To c ange t e scanning, it is necessary to remove t e projector top cover and to open t e protection plate.
For opening t e projector's top cover, see 'Access to controls'.
Warning
Turn off t e projector and unplug t e power cord before c anging t e scan direction.
Location of the connectors
T e 6 scan connectors are located on t e frontside (CRT side) of t e main frame.

After setting t e scan connectors, close t e metal protection plate and secure it wit t e retaining screws.Close t e top cover and

Scan connector settings

Scan position check
To c eck t e scan position i.e. t e orientation of t e scan connectors proceed as follows:
T is procedure can only be done after power (mains) connection. So, first continue wit t e projector setup and t e connections
and t en return to t is procedure.
1 Switc on t e projector. T e projector starts up on t e last selected source.
2 Press ADJUST.
3 Hig lig t SERVICE by pus ing t e cursor key é or ê (Menu 1).
4 Press ENTER: t e 'SERVICE MODE MENU' will be displayed. (Menu 2)
5 Hig lig t 'PROJECTOR SET-UP' by pus ing t e cursor key é or ê and press ENTER.
6 Pus t e cursor key é or ê to ig lig t Identification (Menu 3).
7 Press ENTER to select.
T e identification screen will be displayed (Menu 4).
T is screen gives t e current information about t e projector configuration in t e line entitled 'Config'.
