• This guide is not intended to be comprehensive instructions for the set-up
and operation of the Alaris™ GW 800 Volumetric Pump.
• For complete pump information, refer to the Alaris GW 800 Volumetric
Pump Directions For Use.
• All persons operating the pump should consult the Directions For Use.

Symbol Description
ON/OFF button - Press once to switch the Pump on. Press
and hold down for approximately three seconds to switch the
Pump o.
RUN/HOLD button - Press to start the infusion or to put the
infusion on hold.
CLEAR/MUTE button - Press to silence alarm or advisories
for one minute. The audio from the alarm or advisories will
resound after this time. Resets numeric values to zero.
Note: To re-enable the alarm audio press any other
button or key to unmute.
PRIME/BOLUS button - Primes the Infusion set. Administers
bolus during the infusion.
PRIMARY/SECONDARY button - Switches the Pump between
Primary and Secondary infusion modes, if enabled.
ENTER button - Scrolls between rate, time, VTBI and total
volume infused (VI). Enters values for selected infusion
/ configuration parameters. Confirms the rate during an
infusion titration.
CHEVRON keys - Increases or decreases the infusion rate,
TIME limit and VTBI. Press and hold to increase the selection
speed. Used to adjust user selectable options

Symbol Description
SAC POWER indicator - When illuminated the Pump is
connected to an AC power supply.
ALARM Indicator - When flashing indicates the Pump is
in an alarm condition.
MUTE Indicator - When flashing indicates the Pump
audio alarm is muted.
RATE When illuminated the Pump is displaying the infusion
rate in millilitres per hour (ml/h).
VTBI When illuminated the Pump is displaying the Volume To
Be Infused (VTBI) in millilitres (ml).
VI When illuminated the Pump is displaying the Volume
Infused (VI) in millilitres (ml).
TIME When illuminated the Pump is displaying the infusion
time in hours : mins.
MICRO
When illuminated the Pump is operating in the Micro
Mode. When not illuminated the Pump is in the
Standard Mode.
SEC
When illuminated the Pump is operating in the
Secondary Mode. When not illuminated the Pump is in
the Primary Mode.
ml/h
(Millilitres / hour) When ml is illuminated the Pump
displays the rate, VTBI or VI. When the his illuminated
the Pump displays the rate or infusion time.
Indicators

Fill line
1. Prepare the fluid container.
Squeeze drip chamber until fluid
reaches fill line (if applicable).
Close in-line clamp.
2. Press door latch to open door.
3. Release flow stop mechanism by
pushing the lever arm up and to
the right.
4. Insert the infusion set from left to
right into the pumping channel.
Avoid any slack and avoid
stretching or pulling the tubing.
5. Engage the flow stop mechanism
by pushing the lever left and
down.
6. Close door. Press recesses firmly,
as shown, to ensure latch clicks
into place.
Loading the Infusion Set

1. Switch the pump on.
2. Open the in-line clamp. Ensure no
drops are falling in drip chamber. Prime
infusion set by pressing b. While FILL is
displayed, press bagain and hold until
all visible air is cleared from the line.
3. Connect the infusion set to the patient
access device. Enter rate using h/ f.
Press eonce to confirm rate and scroll
to VTBI.
4. Enter VTBI using h/ f, or, if using a
flow sensor, VTBI can be
switched o by scrolling until OFF is
displayed. Press eonce to confirm VTBI
and scroll to VI.
5. If necessary, press cto clear VI.
6. Press dto start the infusion.
Starting the Pump

User Selectable Options
The pump must be on HOLD. Press d.
Check the Battery Status
Note: Only available when Pump is operating on battery power.
Press and hold efor 2 seconds until Battery Status is displayed:
,• Battery has greater than 30 minutes run time.
.• Battery is low and has approximately 30 minutes or less
run time.
Press ebutton to go to next option.
Selecting the Occlusion Pressure Level (if Enabled)
PrES option is displayed:
s• Change occlusion pressure level to high (HI), normal (nor)
or low (lo) using h/ f.
• Press eto confirm and go to next option.
Selecting the Alarm Volume (if Enabled)
tonE option is displayed:
t• Change alarm volume between 1 and 7* using h/ f.
• Press eto confirm and go to next option.
* 1=Low, 7=High
Selecting VTBI / Time Infusion (if Enabled)
CLoc option is displayed:
q• Select On or OFF using h/ fkeys to turn the VTBI/time
infusion** setting on or o.
• Press eto confirm and go to next option.
** Ensure TIME indicator is lit, if set to On.
Selecting Micro Mode (if Enabled)
0.0 option is displayed:
r• Select On or OFF using h/ fkeys to turn micro mode***
on or o.
• Press eto confirm.
*** Ensure MICRO indicator is lit, if set to On.

Panel Lock
Panel lock prevents certain key operation:

Rate Titration
To change the rate while infusing (if titration enabled):
1. Press h/ fto adjust rate.
2. Press eto confirm change of rate.
Administer BOLUS: Press b
To administer a bolus while infusing:
• Press b. While boL is displayed, press bagain and hold to administer the
desired bolus volume.

An alarm indicates that the infusion has stopped.
Check the display for an alarm symbol.
Press cto silence the sound. (Exceptions are Mand Kalarms, which cannot be
silenced)
When the cause has been rectified, press dkey to resume infusion.
All alarms will stop the infusion except for Fand H,
where the infusion status will remain the same state as prior to
the alarm.

Air-in-line
Upstream occlusion
• Disconnect the infusion set from the
IV access device and use the prime
function.
• Remove occlusion/air and restart the
infusion.
K
Internal battery depleted.
• Connect pump to AC power.
• Ensure pump is switched on to charge
internal battery.
L
Door open
• Close door and restart infusion.
M
System fault
• Switch pump o.
• Remove pump from service and have
the pump inspected by a qualified
service engineer.
N
Flow error
Flow sensor attached to secondary
infusion set.
• Close in-line clamp.
• Ensure tubing is loaded correctly.
• Ensure ample fluid is in container.
• Clear blockage. Close pump door.
• Restart infusion.
• Ensure flow sensor is attached to
primary infusion set.
O
Flow sensor connection error.
• Connect flow sensor to pump and
restart infusion. Ensure fluid in drip
chamber is not above fill line.
P
Downstream occlusion
• Remove pressure in the infusion set to
prevent a post occlusion bolus to the
patient.
• Remove the cause of the blockage.
• Restart the infusion.
Q
Incorrect infusion set, infusion set
incorrectly loaded or infusion set worn.
• Use infusion set as specified in DFU.
Ensure infusion set is loaded correctly
into pump.
Alarms

Finished pre-set volume to be infused
with KVO switched o.
• Set new VTBI.
F
Low battery.
(At least 30 mins before Kalarm)
• Connect pump to AC power source.

The pump has been left unattended
for two minutes and infusion has not
started.
• Attend to pump.

Advisories alert the user and are indicated by an audible alarm, a message on the
display or both.
Check the display for advisory message.
Press cto silence the sound.

Bolus is being administered.
• Release bkey to continue the
infusion once prescribed bolus has
been administered.
D
VTBI limit reached.
• Pump will infuse at the KVO rate,
until dis pressed.
E
The pump is priming the infusion set.
• Ensure all air has been primed out of
the infusion set, before starting the
infusion.
G
The pump is on hold.
• Press dto restart / continue infusion
or press eto return to setup.
I
Automatic infusion set check.
• Allow test to complete before
operating the pump further.
