Bimmer Tech E60 User manual

Thank you for purchasing BimmerTech products! We strive to deliver the most functional,
reliable and high quality BMW retrofit upgrades on the market. Our kits are do it yourself
friendly, but if you're not fond of working on your car don't worry. You can always take your
freshly purchased kit along with these installation instructions to one of our recommended
installers or to any other professional installer in your area. We offer full technical support
all the way up to a successful installation finale.
If you will be installing the kit yourself then it is recommended to do so in a clean,
spacious, well lit and climate controlled garage without pressing time constraints. The
installation does involve disassembling many areas of your vehicle so it's best to take your
time, be gentle, careful and diligent in keeping track of which screw and clip came from
where to reinstall the parts correctly.
Please read the instructions in full before beginning the installation and have a thorough
look at the below installation video. While it is not explicitly for your vehicle it is very
similar.

The dip switches on the camera module should be set as follows:
#1 - always ON
#2 - OFF (for connecting the Front View Camera to AV1 input)
#3 - ON (if set to ON AV2 is disabled)
#4 - ON(if set to ON AV3 is disabled)
#5 - ON/OFF (default OFF)
#6 - ON/OFF (default OFF)
#7 - ON (if set to ON the rear view camera mode is enabled)
#8 - always OFF
If the screen does not work or the rear view camera picture does not show in reverse
please try one of the below settings for dip switches #5 and #6:
#5- ON, #6 - ON
#5- ON, #6 - OFF
#5- OFF, #6 - ON
#5- OFF, #6 – OFF
Every time you change dip switches please disconnect the POWER connector from the
MMI to allow the DIP changes to take effect.
Use the attached PDF to install the camera in the trunk lid and run the camera wiring to
the dashboard.
The multimedia interface you received is different from the one in the PDF, so please
follow the below instructions to connect it to the screen:
The rear camera extension cable splits into two cables (yellow RCA plug and white
connector) which should be connected:
- white connector directly to the multimedia interface R-CAM
- yellow RCA to yellow RCA in the AV (IN/OUT) wiring
The front camera extension cable connects to a adaptor cable (that ends with a yellow

RCA plug and red and black power wires) and these should be connected:
- yellow RCA to AV1 input
- red wire to red wire incoming to the MMI power port with a tap-in connector
- black wire to black wire incoming to the MMI power port with a tap-in connector
Connect the small 4-button keypad to the multimedia interface and hide it somewhere
where you can easily access it in the future.
Next please remove the screen and unplug the video cable from the screen. It's the one
with metal connector.
This cable has to be connected to the multimedia interface to LCD-IN.
Then connect the multimedia interface back to the screen (from LCD-OUT to the screen).
The next cable that has to be connected to the multimedia interface is the 10-wire POWER
cable included in the kit.
You need to connect just 4 wires from this connector and they should be tapped into the
wires going to the original screen connector (black connector).
This black connector has 4 wires. When you disconnect the connector from the screen and
slide out the subconnector you will see pin numbers marked on the connector.
Please connect the power wires from the module to the wires going to the screen in the
following way:
pin 5 from the power wire (yellow wire) should be tapped into the wire going to pin 6 in the
black screen connector
pin 6 from the power wire (white wire) should be tapped into the wire going to pin 5 in the
black screen connector
pin 9 from the power wire (black wire) should be tapped into the wire going to pin 3 in the
black screen connector
pin 10 from the power wire (red wire) should be tapped into the wire going to pin 1 in the
black screen connector

Front Camera Installation
Once again the F30 video installation guide will offer you invaluable information on the
front camera installation process in your E60:
https://youtu.be/SksfQZnKILg?t=11m57s
Drop the plastic area shown below. Run the wires under the plastic by the foot well of the
driver’s seat, being careful not to interfere with the airbag.

The simplest and most efficient way to route the Front View Camera wire through the
firewall is to drill a hole in the existing grommet, as shown below. Be sure to drill a large
enough hole (yellow dot), so that the plastic clip will easily fit through, while being
extremely careful not to make contact with any other wires.
Once you’ve drilled through the grommet, use a sturdy wire or a thin hanger to route the
wire through the grommet.

Since your vehicle has a mesh grille you can simply unscrew the camera lens and install it
through the grille mesh from the inside and screw it back together.
Then connect the camera to the extension cable and heat shrink the connection. You
should be able to do this without removing the bumper cover. Please have the battery
disconnected before doing this – we don't want the fans to turn on while you're working
under the hood.
Route the camera cable around the engine bay all the way to the rubber grommet in the
firewall as space permits, and proceed to run it up to the MMI module, connecting it to the
previously installed adaptor cable.
Once all cables are connected as described you can reconnect the earth lead to the
negative battery terminal power up the car and check if everything works.
To engage the Front camera press the Mode button connected to the MMI module or long
press the down button on your steering wheel.
Make sure the front camera picture is unobstructed by the grille and not upside down. If

the camera works fine you can now secure the camera cable with cable ties to prevent it
from moving around. After the cable is in its final location seal the hole you made in the
grommet with black silicone. Proceed to reassemble all of the trim pieces.
To turn on the reverse camera simply engage reverse gear.
Congratulations! Your Installation is now complete.
