EXPANDING YOUR AUDIO LINK
The Bose® link AR1 Wireless Audio Receiver
Your AR1 receiver works with the Bose® link ALB Homewide
Wireless Audio Link transmitter. It provides wireless audio
reception for Bose link expansion room systems, amplifiers,
or powered speakers.
You can also use it with some older Bose products that are
not Bose link compatible or with atuner/receiver or apair
of
powered speakers that are not from Bose.
J Note: Use of the AR1 receiver with a product that is not Bose link
compatible requires aspecial adapter cab/e. For further informa-
tion] refer to lilnstructions for non-Bose
or older Bose products

Getting it ready
•Check the AR1 receiver connection panel to make sure the
Setup Code switches are set
to match those on the connec-
tion panel
of the ALB transmitter. This ensures compatibility.
J Note: For further information on the Setup Code, refer to the
owner's guide that came with your
ALB Homewide Wireless
Audio Link.
•Place the receiver within 7feet (2 meters) of the product it
connects to (using the supplied Bose link Acable).
•Place it within 80 feet
(24 meters) of the AL8 transmitter.
•Keep it upright with all feet flat on alevel surface, such as a
floor, table, or shelf.
•Do not tip it on its side.
Connecting to aBose® link compatible product
These instructions are for use of the AR1 receiver with aBose
link compatible expansion product only. If they are not appro-
priate, refer to-"Instructions for non-Bose or older Bose prod-
uctsJ'on page

1. Connect one end of the supplied Bose link Acable into
the Bose link OUTPUT jack on the
AR1 receiver.
2. Connect the other end of the cable to the Bose link Input
jack on the expansion room system, amplifier,
or powered
speaker (Figure 1on page
6).

3. Insert the small plug on the power pack cable into the
AC
Power jack on the receiver and plug the pack into awall
outlet.
The Status LED lights to verify this power connection.
I Note: Forinformation on the meaning of the different Status LEO
lights, refer to the owner's guide that came with your Bose link
AL8 Homewide Wireless Audio Link.
Instructions for non-Bose or older Bose products
The AR1 receiver can connect to some products that are not
Bose link compatible, including:
•Non-Bose products like atuner/receiver or powered speaker
system
•Bose powered speakers, aradio, or system with
its own
volume and on/off controls and line-level female RCA input
jacks connected to the receiver
Any of the above products require the use of an RCA to DIN
adapter cable for connecting to the receiver.
An adapter kit,
which contains two of these cables,
is available from Bose.

EXPANDING YOUR AUDIO LINK
To use an adapter cable
The RCA connectors are color coded, red for right and white
for left.
1. Insert the adapter cable DIN connector into the Bose® link
jack on the receiver (OUTPUT).
2. Insert the adapter cable RCA connectors into the Audio In
jack on the expansion room product. Match left to left and
right to right.

3. Complete the connections using the power pack:
•Insert the small plug on the power pack cable into the AC
Power jack.
•Plug the
pack into an AC wall outlet.
The Status LED lights to verify this power connection.

To control the sound
Use a Bose® link remote control or the PERSONAL® music
center
II to select audio from the LIFESTYLE® system in the
main room.
Use the expansion room product remote or console control for
local volume adjustments.

Check the indicators and settings
Before you use this addition to the audio link, you may want to
check some of the indicators and settings that make your
expansion products work together smoothly.
The Status LED
On the connection panel of both the transmitter and the
receiver, the Status
LED indicates how the two units are
communicating,
as shown in the table below.

On the receiver, ablinking or solid orange light indicates a
communications problem. Repositioning the transmitter or
receiver, or both, may resolve the problem and cause both
LEDs to change
to solid green. For further information, refer to
"Troubleshooting" on page 9.
Your Bose® link expansion room remote control
•Room code
If you have more than one
LI FESTYLE® system expansion
room set up, make sure the remote used
in each one has a
unique room code.
•House code
The house code setting on the remote must match the set-
ting on your
L1FESTYLE® system. This is an issue only if you
have changed the system house code due
to interference
with another Bose
L1FESTYLE® system.
For information on these house code and room code settings
and
how to change them, refer to the owner's guide that came
with your remote.
J Note: Setup codes for the ALB transmitter and AR1 receiver,
which
must be identical to each other, do NOT need to match
house codes on the remote or LIFESTYLEID system.

What is covered:
All parts defective in material and workmanship. This Limited Warranty does not
cover a defect that has resulted from improper or unreasonable use or maintenance,
accident, excess moisture, improper packing, lightning, power surges, or unautho-
rized tampering, alteration or modification.
Limitation on liability:
WHERE PERMITIED, THE PROVISIONS OF THIS LIMITED WARRANTY ARE IN LIEU
OF ANY OTHERWRITIEN WARRANTY, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WRITIEN
OR ORAL, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR
A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Notwithstanding the above, where applicable, if you qualify
as a "consumer" under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, then you may be entitled
to any implied warranties allowed by law for the period of the express Limited Warranty
as set forth below. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied Limited

For how long:
The Bose® Limited Warranty lasts one year from the purchase date for electronic prod-
ucts, systems, and powered speaker components, and five years for speaker com-
ponents that are not self-powered (amplified). Integrated, stereo, and home theater
systems have a one-year Limited Warranty. Additionally, the 131 ® marine speakers
have a three-year Limited Warranty. Powered component speakers have a one-year
Limited Warranty term for the electronics and five years for the speakers. The Headset
X has a five-year Limited Warranty, excluding the ear cushions, which have a six-month
Limited Warranty. The QuietComfort® headphones have a one-year Limited Warranty.
The TriPort® headphones have a one-year warranty. For the Limited Warranty on pro-
fessional products, please refer to your Owner's Guide for details.
What we will do:
We will, at our sole option, repair or replace any defective parts within a reasonable
period of time and free of charge.
What we will not do:
Pay shipping or transportation charges from you to us.
What you must do to obtain Limited Warranty service:
1. Return product with proof of purchase from an authorized Bose dealer directly to
Bose Corporation. If you elect to return the product directly to Bose Corporation,
the following procedures must be followed:
Contact Bose Corporation at 1-800-367-4008 for return authorization number, spe-
cific return and shipping instructions, which will include but may not be limited to:
Properly packing the product in the original carton for shipping. If you need a
new carton, contact Bose Corporation for free packing material and box.
Cartons not bearing a return authorization number will be refused.
2. Return product with proof of purchase from an authorized Bose dealer to a Bose
Service Agency.

Exclusive Remedy:
This Limited Warranty is fully transferable provided that the current owner furnishes the
original proof of purchase from an authorized Bose® dealer. THE MAXIMUM L1ABILl1Y
OF BOSE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE ACTUAL PURCHASE PRICE PAID BY YOU FOR THE
PRODUCT. IN NO EVENT SHALL BOSE BE LIABLE FOR SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CON-
SEQUENTIAL OR INDIRECT DAMAGES. Some places do not allow limitations on the
exclusion or limitation of relief, speciat incidental, consequential or indirect damages,
or the limitation of liability to specified amounts, so the above limitations or exclusions
may not apply to you.
Other conditions:
This Limited Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other
rights which vary from country to country or state to state. This Limited Warranty is
void if the label bearing the serial number has been removed or defaced.
Your Limited Warranty rights are not diminished if you do not complete and
return the product registration card.
