These instructions refer to the Breville Blue Ice Kettle JK147

BEFORE USING YOUR KETTLE
1 Remove any packaging and
promotional material from the kettle
and position on a dry, level, secure
work surface away from the edge.
2 Before connecting to a power source,
make sure your mains supply voltage
is the same as the one indicated on
the base of this appliance. Connect
the plug to a suitable power outlet and
ensure that the power cord does not
overhang the work surface.
3 Remove the kettle from the power
base and press the lid release button
to open. Fill the kettle to the
maximum indication mark on the body
and close the lid.
4 Place the kettle back onto the power
base. Ensure the kettle is not over-
filled. Always compare the water level
against the maximum water mark,
with the kettle positioned on the
power base.
5 Turn on the kettle by pressing the
ON/OFF switch down.
Bring to the boil and then discard the
water. Repeat this procedure two more
times. This removes any residues that
may have remained from the
manufacturing process. Remove and
rinse the filter before use. See cleaning
the filter section.

USING YOUR KETTLE
1 With the kettle switched off (ON/
OFF switch in the UP position),
plug the power base into a
suitable power outlet.
2 Remove the kettle from the power
base before filling with water. Do
not fill through the spout.
3 Open the lid by pressing the lid
release button and fill through the
top, observing the capacity
markings on the kettle body.
4 Fill the kettle with no less than
the minimum amount of water
and no more than the maximum
capacity.
TO ENSURE KETTLE IS NOT
OVERFILLED, ALWAYS CHECK
THE KETTLE’S WATER LEVEL
WITH THE KETTLE
POSITIONED ON ITS POWER
BASE.
5 Push the lid closed and then
switch the kettle on by
depressing the ON/OFF switch.
Be careful to close the lid
correctly to ensure optimum
operation.
When the kettle is switched on,
the ON/OFF switch and the body
illuminates.
6 When the water reaches boiling
point, the kettle turns off
automatically.
Due to the clear nature of the kettle
it will be possible to see the water
boiling. This kettle is designed to
turn off automatically at boiling
point. (100°C). It may be possible to
see the water boiling from around
95°C, and it may give the impression
that the kettle has been boiling for to
long.
7 You may also switch the kettle off
manually at any time, by gently
lifting the bottom of the ON/OFF
switch upwards.
WARNING: If this product is
filled above the max. level,
hot water may be ejected.
Energy Saving Hints and Tips
A Breville kettle, if used correctly, is
a very energy efficient device. Why
not try some of these energy saving
tips?
• Only boil the water you need.
Overfilling your kettle by one cup
is the equivalent to using an
energy saving light bulb for one
hour!
• It is not always necessary to re-
boil your kettle. For example, one
litre of water will still be at 90°C
after five minutes - the perfect
temperature for a cup of coffee.

CLEANING
1 Always unplug from the plug
socket and allow to cool fully
before cleaning.
2 Clean the exterior surface of the
kettle with a damp cloth and then
polish with a soft dry cloth. Do
not use steel wool pads or harsh/
abrasive cleaners. This will
damage the polycarbonate body.
3Do not immerse the kettle
power base or cordset and
plug in water or liquid of any
kind.
4 This kettle features a concealed
heating element which means it
never comes into contact with the
water inside the kettle. This
hygienic design not only makes
cleaning the inside of the kettle
much easier, it also keeps
cleaning to a minimum.
5 The filter inside the kettle needs
to be cleaned periodically, how
often will vary according to where
you live and how often you use
your kettle. You should clean it
whenever there are any
noticeable deposits left on the
filter and especially if the rate of
pouring starts to reduce.
6 Although the kettle is designed
for the element to remain scale
free, in hard water areas, scale
may still build up on the base.
Therefore it is very important that
you descale regularly using a
proprietary descaler. Not doing so
will spoil the appearance and
efficiency of the kettle and could
result in failure of the appliance.
Not descaling as advised could
invalidate your guarantee.
Always follow the manufacturers
instructions carefully when
descaling the kettle.

CLEANING THE FILTER
Removing/Refitting the Filter
Important: Before removing or
refitting the filter, switch the kettle off
and empty it. Allow to cool
completely then unplug the power
base.
To Remove the Filter
•Ensure the kettle has cooled
fully and is empty.
Paying close attention to how
the filter is installed, gently
unclip.
To Clean the Filter
•Rinse the filter under a tap
whilst brushing with a soft
brush. In hard water areas it
may be necessary to descale
with a descaling agent.
Use a proprietary descaler,
following the manufacturer’s
instructions carefully.
To Refit the Filter
•Make sure that your hands are
clean and free from soap,
cream or anything which might
taint the water.
•Place kettle on the worktop
and locate the filter into the
spout as follows:
Holding the top of the filter, clip
in bottom first, then top.
Note: To prevent damage to
the filter, avoid pressing the
mesh.

✘Never allow kettle to boil dry. If
kettle does boil dry, allow to cool,
unplug and refill with cold water.
✘Never fill kettle when positioned
on power base.
✘Never let cord hang over the edge
of a table or counter, touch hot
surfaces or become knotted.
✘Never place this appliance on or
near a hot gas or electric burner or
where it could touch a heated oven
or microwave oven.
✘Never use a power base other
than the one supplied with this
kettle.
✘Never insert any object into slots
or holes of the kettle.
✘Never operate any appliance with
a damaged cord or plug or after an
appliance malfunction or if it has
been damaged in any manner.
✔Always ensure hands are dry
before handling the plug or
switching on the kettle.
✔Always use the kettle on a secure,
dry level surface.
✔Always store excess portion of the
power cord in the storage
compartment of the base unit.
✔Always carry out regular checks of
the supply cord to ensure no
damage is evident. Should there be
any signs that the cord is damaged
in the slightest degree, the entire
appliance should be returned to the
Customer Service Department.
✔Always return the kettle after a
malfunction, or if it has been
damaged in any manner to the
Customer Service Department.
✔Always exercise caution when
carrying the kettle full of boiling
water and when pouring.
✔Always Avoid excessive tilting of
the kettle after filling.
✔Always beware of steam being
emitted from the spout or lid
especially during refilling.
✔Always ensure kettle is switched
off before removing from the power
base.
✔Always unplug kettle from socket
after use and before cleaning.
✔Always allow the kettle to cool
before cleaning and storing.

WARNING: THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED
If this appliance is fitted with a rewirable BS1363, 13 amp plug, the fuse
should be rated at 13 amps and be ASTA approved to BS1362. However if
the plug is unsuitable, it should be dismantled and removed from the
supply cord and an appropriate plug fitted as detailed below.
If this appliance is fitted with a moulded BS1363 13 amp plug, the fuse
should be rated at 13 amps and be ASTA approved to BS1362. If the fuse
in a non-rewirable plug needs to be changed, the fuse cover must be
refitted. The appliance must not be used without the fuse cover fitted.
In the event of the plug being unsuitable, it should be changed and an
appropriate plug fitted as detailed below. If you remove the plug it must not
be connected to a 13 amp socket and the plug must be disposed of
immediately.
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not
correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your
plug, proceed as follows:
The wires of the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following
code: GREEN & YELLOW = EARTH BLUE = NEUTRAL BROWN = LIVE
The wire which is coloured GREEN & YELLOW must be connected to the
terminal in your plug which is marked with an E or by the EARTH SYMBOL
or coloured GREEN or GREEN & YELLOW.
The wire coloured BLUE is the NEUTRAL
and must be connected to the terminal in
your plug which is marked N or coloured
BLACK.
The wire coloured BROWN is the LIVE and
must be connected to the terminal in your
plug which is marked L or coloured RED.
If any other plug is used, a 13 amp fuse
must be fitted either in the plug or adaptor or
at the distributor board.
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should
always be followed.

These appliances are built to the very highest of standards. There are no
user-serviceable parts. Follow these steps if the unit fails to operate:
1 Check instructions have been followed correctly.
2 Check fuse has not blown.
3 Check mains supply is functional.
If the appliance will not operate, return the appliance to the place it was
purchased for a replacement. To return the appliance to the Customer
Service Department, follow the steps below:
1 Pack it carefully (preferably in the original carton). Ensure unit is clean.
2 Enclose your name and address and quote model number JK147 on all
correspondence.
3 Give the reason why you are returning it.
4 If within the guarantee period, state when and where it was purchased
and include proof of purchase (e.g. till receipt).

This product is guaranteed for a period of 1 year from the date of
purchase against mechanical and electrical defects.
This guarantee is only valid if the appliance is used solely for domestic
purposes in accordance with the instructions provided, that it is not
connected to an unsuitable electricity supply, dismantled or interfered with
in any way or damaged through misuse. Under this guarantee we
undertake to repair or replace free of charge any parts found to be
defective.
Nothing in this guarantee or the instructions relating to the product
excludes, restricts or otherwise affects your statutory rights.

change this product, packaging and documentation without notice.
