Engine Oil
NOTICE Any attempt to crank or start the engine before it
has been properly servicedwith the recommendedoil will
result in equipment failure.
,DONOTattempt to crank or startthe engine before it has

may result in an enginefailure.
, Damageto equipment resultingfrom failureto follow this
instruction will void generatorwarranty'.
Theengine is shipped from the factory'pro-run and filled
with synthetic oil (API SJiCF5W-30). This allows for system
operation in a wide rangeof temperature and climate
conditions. Beforestarting the engine, checkoil leveland
ensurethat engine is serviced as described in Maintenance.
Battery
The instalbr must supply a rechargeable12 volt DCstarting
battery. See Batter};in Final Installation Considerationsin the
installation manual.
WARNING Battery posts, terminals and related
accessoriescontain lead and lead compounds, chemicals
known to the State of California to causecancer and
reproductive harm. Wash handsafter handling
With the battery installed, all wiring to transfer switch and
generator completed, utility power supplied to the automatic
transfer switch, and the unit in AUTOmode the battery
receivesa trickle chargewhile the engine is not running. The
trickle chargecannot be usedto rechargea battery that is
completely discharged.
15 Amp Fuse
Thegenerator's 15 Amp fuse is critical to correct system
operation. The 15 Amp fuse was removedat the factory to
prevent the unit from starting during shipping. Your installer
will ensurethe fuse is properly installed upon completion of
the installation.
Automatic Operation Sequence
Thegenerator's control board constantly monitors utility
voltage.Should utility voltage drop below a preset level, the
control board will signal the engineto crank and start.
,A CAUTION With the system switch set to AUTO,the
engine could crank and start at anytime without
warning, resulting in minor or moderate injury,.
° To preventpossible injury that may be causedby such
suddenstarts, alwaysset the system switch to OFFif
performing maintenanceon the system.
° Removethe 15 Amp fuse beforeworking on or around
the generatoror transfer switch.
When utility voltage is restored abovea preset voltage level,
the engine is signaledto shut down.
Theactual system operation is not adjustable and is
sequencedby sensors and timers on the control board,
asfollows:
Utility VoltageI}repeut Sensor
*This sensor monitors utility source voltage.
° if utility source voltage drops below about 70 percent
of the nominal supply voltage,the sensor energizes
a 3 second timer. The timer is usedto 'sense'
brown-outs.
° Oncethe timer has expired,the enginewill crank
and start.
Utility VoltagePickup Sensor
This sensor monitors utility powervoltage. When utility
voltage is restored above80 percent of the nominal source
voltage,a time delaystarts timing andthe enginewill go to
engine cool-down.
Engine Cool-down Timer
When utility power is sensedand the load transfers to the
utility source, the engine will go into a cool down period as
described below:
,if the generator has run for MOREthan 5 minutes, once
the utility transfer occurs, the enginewill continue to
run for about 1 minute beforeshutting down.
, if the generator has run for LESSthan 5 minutes, once
the utility transfer occurs, the enginewill continue to
run until 5 minutes has elapsedbeforeshutting down.

Setting ExerciseTimer
Thegenerator is equipped with an exercisetimer. Duringthe
exerciseperiod, the unit runs for approximately 20 minutes
and then shuts down. Electricalload transfer DOESNOT
occur during the exercisecycle (unless an utility power
outage occurs).
Thegeneratorwill only enterthe exercisecycle if the unit is
in the AUTOmodeand this exactprocedure is followed.
Toset the exercise timer:
HOTICE Thegenerator is set with a deservicecode exercise
cycle setting of Tuesdayat 2:00 P.M, CentralTime.To
changethe cycle setting, proceedto the following steps:
1. Choosethe day and time you want your generatorto
exercise.
2. Pressand hold the left arrow and right arrow
simultaneously for 3 secondsto enterthe GeneralSet-
Upprogram mode. SeeGeneralSet-Up flow chart in
Menu Section.
3. Verify and/or set the time and date on the unit.
4. Goto the SETEXERCISEprompt and hit the "OK"
button.
HOTICE items will flash until they are selected.
SELECTDAY: Usethe left or right arrow to toggle
through the days of the week, Oncethe day is selected,
hit the "OK" button.
SELECTHOUR:Usethe left or right arrow to toggle
through between 1 and 12. Choosethe hour of day you
want the generatorto exercisethen hit the "OK" button.
SELECTMINUTE:Usethe left of right arrow to toggle
between :00 and :59. Choosethe minute of the day you
want the generatorto exercisethen hit the "OK" button.
SELECTAMiPM: Usethe left of right arrow to toggle
betweenAM and PM. Oncechosen, hit the "OK" button.
HOTICE During the weekly exercisecycle,the generatorwill
run for 20 minutes, but it will not supply powerto the home.
During the exercisecycle, the in-home monitor will continue
blinking the GENERATORREADYgreen LED.
if you want to changethe dayand time the unit exercises,
simply perform the procedure again.
Toturn off the generatorexercisecycle, go to the OFF
selectionwithin the day of the week menu and press OK.The
display will then scroll: EXERCISECYCLEOFF.
Servicing the System
Beforeperforming any generatormaintenance,always
perform the following steps:
1. Set generator's circuit breakerto its OFFposition.
2. Press and hold the control board OFFbutton.
3. Remove15 Amp fuse from control board.

Disconnect power before servicing control board by
removing the fusesfrom the transfer switch.
5. After all servicing hasbeen completed, replacefuses in
transfer switch, replace15 Amp fuse in control board,
set circuit breakerON and press and hold control board
AUTObutton.
Service Cede Detectien System
Thegenerator may haveto run for long periods of time
with no operator present.Forthat reason,the system is
equipped with sensors that automatically shut down the
generator in the event of potentially damaging conditions,
such aslow oil pressure, high temperature, over speed,and
other conditions.
Thegenerator's control board shows servicecode
descriptions scrolling acrossthe digital display. Theservice
