DESCRIPTION
_Read this manual carefully and become
familiar with your generator. Know its
applications, its limitations and any hazards
involved.
The generators are anengine-driven, revolving field,
alternating current (AC) generator. It was designedto supply
electrical power for operating compatible electrical lighting,
appliances,tools and motor loads.Thegenerator's revolving
field is driven at about 3,600rpm by a single-cylinder engine.
CAUTION! DO NOT exceed the generator's
wattage/amperagecapacity.See"Don't Overload
Generator" on page I I.

WARNING
Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug and place
the wire where it cannot contact spark plug.

Allow equipment to cool before touching.

DO NOT tamper with governed speed.Generator supplies
correct rated frequency and voltage when running at governed
speed.
DO NOT modify generator in any way.

Start generator and let engine stabilize before connecting
electrical loads.
Connect electrical loads in OFF position, then turn ON for
operation.
Turn electrical loads OFF and disconnect from generator
before stopping generator.
CAUTION
Use generator onlyfor intended uses.

Operate generator only on level surfaces.
DO NOT expose generator to excessive moisture, dust, dirt,
or corrosive vapors.
DO NOT insertany objects through cooling slots.
If connected devices overheat, turn them offand disconnect

ASSEMBLY
Your generator requires some assemblyand isready for
useafter it hasbeen properly serviced with the
recommended oil and fuel.
If you haveanyproblems with the assemblyof your
generator,pleasecallthe generator helplineat
1-800-743-4115. If callingfor assistance,pleasehavethe
model, revision,andserial number from the datatag available.
INSTALL WHEEL KIT
NOTE: If your unit issupplied with a 10" wheel kit use
the following instructions.If your unit issupplied with an
8" wheel kit usethe instructionson page6.
NOTE:While the wheel kit is designedto greatly improve
the portability of your generator, it isnot intendedfor
over-the-road use.
You will need a socket wrench with I/2" or 13mm sockets
and a needle-nose pliers to install this kit.
Install the 10" Wheel Kit as Follows
I. Placethe bottom of the generator cradle on a fiat,
evensurface.Temporarily place unit on blocks to ease
assembly.
2. Slide axle through both axle mounting brackets on
cradle frame, asshown in Figure I.
3. Slide a wheel over the axle.
NOTE: Be sure to install both wheels with the air
pressure valve on the outboard side.
4. Placethe e-ring onto the groove inthe axle.You may
add the fiat washer if desired.
NOTE: Use retaining pins insteadof e-clip,if applicable.
5. Placeone end of the needle nose pliers on the bottom
of the axle and the other end of the pliers on top of
the e-ring.Seatthe e-ring by pressing the pliers closed.
6. Repeat step 3 through 5 to secure second wheel.
7. Removethe temporary blocks.
8. Attach the vibration mounts to the support leg with
30mm capscrewsand lock nuts.
9. To aid support leg assembly,rest generator on cradle,
engine end down. Removethe existing hardware from
the left unit vibration mount with 13ramwrench. Use
the samehardware to attach the support leg.
10. Attach the other side of the support leg with a 20mm
cap screw and lock nut Restgenerator on wheels and
support leg.

12.AttachhandlebracketwithtwoM8x45mmcap
screwsand two lockinghexnuts.
13.Checkthatallfastenersaretightandthetiresareinflated
tothevaluemarkedon thetireorwithin15and40psi.
Install the 8"Wheel Kit as Follows
I. Placebottom of generator cradle on afiat surface.
2. Placeaxle stud through wheel retainer on cradle frame,
asshown in Figure2.
3. Use 15/16" wrench to secure the axle stud to frame
with 5/8-18 jam nut.
4. Install the other axle stud in the same manner.
NOTE: Be sure to install wheel with raised hub inboard.
5. Tip unit and installthe wheel. Placefiat washer over
axle stud.
6. Retain wheel on axle stud with retaining pin. Install
other wheel on remaining axle shaft the same way.
7. Attach the vibration mount to the mounting leg with a
capscrew and lock nut.
8. Remove two front nuts from vibration mount on unit
with 13ram wrench. Use these nuts to retain the
mounting leg.
9. Center the lifting handle on generator end of cradle.
Attach handle using two 13mm wrenches with two
capscrews and two hex nuts.

ELECTRIC START
Your unit may be equipped with electric start capability but
can be started manually.Ifyou choose not to use the
electric start feature,you do not need to install the battery.
If your unit does not haveelectric start, ignore this section.
Check Battery /Attach Negative
Battery Wire
The sealedbattery on the generator is fully charged and
pre-lnstalled except for the negative (black) battery cable.
To install:
I. Cut off tie wrap securing loose end of negative (black)
cable.
2. Remove nut and washer on negative battery terminal.
3. Slide negative battery cable over screw on negative
terminal (Figure 3).

4. Reattach washer and nut and tighten.
5. Verify that connections to battery and generator are
tight and secure.
BEFORE STARTING THE
ENGINE
Add Engine Oil and Fuel
• Place generator on a level surface.
CAUTION
•Refer to engine manual for oil and fuel fill information.
• Damage to equipment resulting from failure to follow this
instruction will void warranty.
• Refer to engine owner's manual and follow oil and fuel
recommendations and instructions.
NOTE: Check oil often during engine break-in. Refer to
engine owner's manual for recommendations.
NOTE: The generator assembly rotates on a prelubricated
and sealed ball bearing that requires no additional
lubrication for the life of the bearing.

USING THE GENERATOR
System Ground
The generator hasa system ground that connects the
generator frame components to the ground terminals on
the AC output receptacles.The system ground is connected
to theAC neutral wire (the neutral is bonded to the
generator frame). _'.-ma.U_i
Special Requirements
There may be Federalor State Occupational Safetyand
Health Administration (OSHA) regulations,localcodes,or
ordinances that applyto the intendeduse of the generator.
Pleaseconsult a qualified electrician, electrical inspector,or
the localagencyhavingjurisdiction.
•In some areas,generators are required to be registered
with localutility companies.
• If the generator isused at a construction site, there may
be additional regulations which must be observed.
Connecting to a Building's Electrical
System
Connections for standby power to a buitding'selectrical
system must be made by a qualified electrician.The
connection must isolatethe generator power from utility
power, and must comply with all applicable lawsand
electrical codes.
DANGER

BATTERY CHARGER
If equipped, usebattery float charger jackto keep the
starting battery charged and ready for use.Battery charging
should be done in a dry location,such as insidea garage.
I. Plugcharger into unit's"Battery Float Charger" jack,
which islocatedon the starter switch (Figure 4). Plug
battery charger intoa120Volt AC wall receptacle.
2. Unplug charger from unitand wall outlet when
generator isbeing started and whileit isin operation.
3. Keep this charger plugged in when generator isnot in
use to prolong battery life.Thecharger hasa built in
float equalizer and will not overcharge the battery,
even when plugged in for an extended period of time.
IMPORTANT: See+'Battery Maintenance" on page 12for
additional information.
OPERATING THE
G EN ERATO R
CAUTION
See"Don't Overload Generator" on page I I.
Start generator andlet engine stabilize before connecting
electrical loads.
Connect electrical loads in OFF position, then turn ON for
operation.
Turn electrical loads OFF and disconnect from generator
before stopping generator.
IMPORTANT: Always unplugthe battery float charger
before starting the generator.
Starting the Engine
Disconnect all electrical loadsfrom the generator. Use the
following start instructions:
I. Make sure unit ison a levelsurface.

IMPORTANT: Failureto start and operate unit on a level
surface will cause the unit not to start or shut clown during
operation.
2A. For models with the fuel valve built into the engine,
turn the fuel valve to the "On" position (Figure5).

2B. For models with an overhead fuel tank, turn the fuel
valve to the "On" position (Figure6).The fuel valve
handle should be vertical (pointing toward the ground)
for fuel to flow.

3. Start engine according to instructions given in the
engine owner's manual.
NOTE: If engine starts after 3 pulls but fails to run,or if
unit shuts down during operation, make sure unit is on a
level surface and check for proper oil level in crankcase.
This unit may be equipped with a low oil protection device.

Connecting Electrical Loads
• Let engine stabilize and warm up for a few minutes after
starting.
• Plug in and turn on the desired 120 and/or 240 VottAC,
singlephase,60 Hz electrical loads.
• DO NOT connect 240Vott loads to the 120Volt duplex
receptacles.
• DO NOT connect 3-phase loadsto the generator.
• DO NOT connect 50 Hz loads to the generator.
•DO NOT OVERLOADTHE GENERATOR. See
"Don't Overload the Generator" on page I I.
Stopping the Engine
I. Unplugall electrical loads from generator panel
receptacles.Never start or stop engine with electrical
devicesplugged in and turned ON.
2. Let engine run at no-load for several minutes to
stabilize internal temperatures of engine and generator.
3. Turn engine off according to instructions given in the
engine owner's manual.
4. Move fuel valve to "Off" position.
RECEPTACLES
The generator wilt be equipped with one or more of the
following receptacles:
CAUTION
NEVERattempt to power a device requiring more
amperagethan generator or receptacle can supply.
DO NOT overload the generator. See"Don't Overload
Generator".
120/240 Volt AC, 30 Amp, Locking
Receptacle
Use a NEMA LI4-30 plug with this receptacle.Connect a
4-wire cord set rated for 250Volt AC loads at 30 Amps (or
greater) (Figure 7).You can usethe same4-wire cord if you
plan to run a 120Volt load.

This receptacle powers 120/240Volt AC, 60 Hz,single
phaseloads requiring up to 6,000watts of power (6.0 kW)
at 30 Amps for 120Volts or 240Volts.The outlet is
protected by a push-to-reset circuit breaker.

120 Volt AC, 30 Amp Locking
Receptacle
Use a NEMA L5-30 plug with this receptacle.Connect a
3-wire cord set rated for 125Volts AC at 30 Amps to the
plug (Figure 8).

Usethis receptacle to operate 120VoltAC, 60 Hz, single
phaseloads requiring up to 3,600 watts (3.6 kW) of power
at 30Amps.The outlet is protected by a push-to-reset
circuit breaker.
120 Volt AC, 20 Amp, Duplex
Receptacles
Each duplex receptacle (Figure 9) is protected against
overload by a push-to-reset circuit breaker.
Use each receptacleto operate 120Volt AC, single-phase,
60 Hz electrical loadsrequiring up to 2,400 watts (2.4 kW)
at 20Amps of current. Use cord sets that are rated for
125Volt AC loads at 20Amps (or greater).
COLD WEATH ER
OPERATION
Under certain weather conditions (temperatures below
40°F [4°C] and a high dew point), your generator may
experience icingof the carburetor and/or the crankcase
breather system.
Build a structure that wilt enclose three sides and the top
of the generator:
I. Make sure entire muffler-side of generator is exposed.
Note that your generator may appear different from
that shown in Figure 10.
2. Ensure a minimum of two feet clearance between open
side of box and nearest object
3. Face exposed end away from wind and elements.
4. Enclosure should hold enough heat created by the
generator to prevent problems.
DANGER
Operate generator ONLY outdoors.
