muffler.The spark arrester must be maintained in effective
working order by the owner/operator. In the State of

of the California Public Resources Code). Other states may

frayed, bare or otherwise damaged.
• DO NOT handle generator or electrical cords while standing
in water, while barefoot, or while hands or feet are wet.
• if you must work around aunit while it isoperating, stand on
an insulateddry surface to reduce shock hazard.
• DO NOT allow unquaEfiedpersons or children to operate or
service generator.

shut down the source of electrical power and contact the
local authorities. Avoid direct contact with the victim.
• Before performingany maintenance on the generator,
disconnect the battery cable indicatedbyaNEGATIVE,
NEG or (-) first.When finished, reconnect that cable last.
• After your Home Standby Generator is installed,the
generator may crank and start without warning any time there
isapower failure.To prevent possible injury,alwaysset the
AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to OFF AND remove the
15Amp fuse BEFORE working on the equipment.

Adequate, unobstructed flow of cooling and ventilating air is
critical to correct generator operation.
The Oil Service door and/or the Control Panel door must be

Despite the safe designof the Home Generator System,
operating this equipment imprudently,neglecting its
maintenance or being careless cancause possible injury or

DO NOT start engine with air cleaner or air cleaner cover
removed.
DO NOT insertany objects through cooling slots.

Home Generator System (HGS).This product isintended
for use asan optional home standby system which provides
an alternate source of electric power and to serve loads
such asheating, refrigeration systems,and communication
systemsthat, when stopped during any power outage,could
causediscomfort, or the like.This product DOES NOT
qualify for emergency standbyas defined by NFPA 70
(NEC).
Briggsand Stratton hasmade every effort to provide for a
safe,streamlined and cost-effective installation.Because
eachinstallation isunique,it isimpossibleto know of and
advisethe trade of all conceivable procedures and methods
by which installation might be achieved.Neither could we
know of possible hazardsand/or the results of each

The EmissionControl System for this generator is
warranted for standards set by the U.S.Environmental
Protection Agency and by the California Air Resources
Board (CARB).

The illustrations are for typical circumstances and are
meant to familiarize you with the installationoptions
availablewith your Home Generator System.A thorough
understanding of these options wilt provide fundamental
control over the cost of your installation,aswell asensure
your final satisfaction and security.
Local codes,appearance,noise levels,fuel types, and
distances are the factors that must be considered when
negotiating with an installationprofessional. Remember that
asthe distancefrom the existing electrical service and
gaseousfuel supply increases,equal compensations in piping
and wiring materials must be allowed for.This isnecessary
to comply with local codes and overcome electrical voltage
drops and gaseousfuel pressure drops.
The factors mentioned above will have a direct
affect on the overall price of your Home Generator
System installation.

NOTE: In some areasyou may needto acquire electrical
permits for installingthe Home Generator System,building
permits for installinggaslines,and permits for noise
allowances.Your installershould check your local codes
AND obtain the permits before installingthe system.
Fuel Factors
An importantconsiderationaffecting the entire installation
isthe type of fuel usedby your Home Generator System.
The system was factory tested and adjusted usingnatural
gasas a fuel. Liquid propane (LP) may atso be usedasa fuel
(seethe Installation Manual).
Although there are specific factors that are inherentto each
of these fuels,your location and the duration of possible
utility interruptionsshouldguide your selection of fuel type.
For urban installations,Natural Gas(if available)should be
your fuel of choice.For remote installations,a Liquefied
Petroleum (LP)tank might better meet your needs.
For proper engine function, the following fuel guidelines are
recommended:
•Use clean,dry fuel, free of moisture or any particulate
material. Using fuels outside the following recommended
values maycause performance problems.
In enginesset up to run on propane (LP) gas,
commercial grade HD5 propane with a minimum fuel
energy of 2500 BTUs/ft_with maximum propylene
content of 5% and butane and heaviergascontent of
2.5%and minimum propane content of 90%.
WARNING
The Home Standby Generator isequipped with an automatic
safetygas"fuel shut-off" valve.
DO NOT operate the equipment if the"fuel shut-off" valveis
missing or inoperative.
Power Decrease at High Altitude or High
Temperature
Air density is lessat high altitudes, resulting in less available
engine power. Specifically,engine power will decrease 3.5%
for each l,O00feet (300 meters) above sealeveland I% for
each 10° F(5.6°C) above77°F (25°C). Make sure you and
your installerconsider these factors when determining
total generator load.
Generator Location
The actual physicallocationof your backup generator hasa
direct affect on:
I. The amount of plumbing required to fuel your
generator.
2. The amount of wiring required to control and connect
your generator.
NOTE: Specific locationguidelines are discussedin the
Installation Manual.Acquaint yourself with that information
and confer with your installer.Be sure to ask how your site
might affect installationcosts and compliance with local
codes and standards.
Generator Clearances
The generator enclosure must be a minimum of 3ft.
(92 cm) from combustible material (NFPA 37).Leaveat
least 3 ft. (92 cm) all around the enclosure for accessto the
insideof the enclosure (NEC Art. I I0-26a,Art. I I0-26b).
The unit's exhaust port must be at least 5 ft. (I 52 cm) from
any building opening (window, door, vent etc.), and the
exhaust must not be able to accumulate in anyoccupied
area (Figure I).

installation details.Variations to this illustration are related
to code issues,piping distances and materials.
Essential Circuits
As a Home Generator System owner, it isimportantthat
you clearly identifythe circuits inyour building that are
"essential" to you. Becausethe Home Generator System is
equipped with an Automatic Transfer Switch, your selection
of essentialcircuits will be transferred to the Home
Generator Systemwithin 15 seconds(+/- 5 seconds).
It isimportant that your installerunderstand which circuits
you want to include as"EssentialCircuits". Depending on
the power consumed by these circuits, most or all of them
can be switched to the Home Generator System for the
duration of normal power interruption.
The wattage reference guide shown in Figure3 will assist
you with your decislon-making process. It provides the
wattage used by many ordinary household devices.Use it
as aguide when selecting your essentialcircuits. Review
this information with your installer and ask about any
technical considerations that might affect the cost of your
installation.

Essential Circuit Selection
When selectingthe essentialcircuits that will be switched
to "Backup Power;' it isimportantthat the sum of the
combined circuit loadsdoes not exceed the
wattage/amperage capacity of the generator.To help you
with your selection of essentialcircuits, pleaseconsider the
following:
Add up the total wattage of all electrical devicesto be
connected at one time.This total should NOT be
greater than the generator's wattage capacity.
The rated wattage of lightscan be taken from lightbulbs.
The rated wattage of tools, appliancesand motors can
usually be found on a data plate or decal affixed to the
device.
Ifthe appliance,tool or motor does not give wattage,
multiply 120Volts times the ampere rating to determine
watts (Volts x Amps =Watts).
Some electric motors (induction types) require about
three times more watts of power for starting than for
running.This surge lastsfor only a few seconds.Be sure
you allow for this high starting wattage when selecting
electrical devicesthat will be energized by the Home
Generator System:
Figurethe watts required to start the largestmotor.
Add that to the total running watts of all other
connected loads.
This Briggs &Stratton Home Generator System
complies with the following "stationary standby
power rating":
The standby power rating isapplicable for supplying
emergency power for the duration of normal power
interruption.No sustained overload capability isavailable
for this rating.
This rating isapplicableto installationsserved by a
reliable normal utility source.This rating isonly applicable
to variable loadswith an averageloadfactor of 80% of
the standby rating for a maximum of 500 hours of
operation per year.The standby rating isonty applicable
for emergency and standby power where the generator
set serves asthe backup to the normal utility source.
Use the "Wattage Reference Guide" provided and mark
those circuits you consider "critical" or "essential". Make
sure you and your installerconsider the system's altitude
above sealeveland the ambient temperature range when
determining total generator load.

After removing the carton, carefully inspectthe Home

shipment.
IMPORTANT: If loss or damageisnoted at time of
delivery,havethe person(s) making delivery note all damage
on the freight bitl and affix his signature under the
consignor's memo of loss or damage.If loss or damageis
noted after delivery, separate the damagedmaterials and
contact the carrier for claim procedures. Missingor

precteaner to limit the amount of dirt and dust drawn into
the engine.

I5Amp Fuse -- Protects the Home Generator System
DC control circuits. If the fuse has'blown' (melted open)
or was removed,the engine cannot crank or start. Replace
the fuse using only an identical BUSAGC 15A fuse.
AUTO/OFF/MANUAL Switch -- This three-position
device is the most important control on the systemand is
usedas follows:
• "AUTO" position isthe normal operating position. Ifa
utility power outage is sensed,the system will start the
generator, let it reach stable operating speed,then
connect generator power to the transfer switch.When
utility power is restored, the system reconnects utility
power to the transfer switch, lets the engine stabilize
internal temperatures, shuts off the generator, and waits
for the next utility power outage.White waiting, it
maintains battery with trickle charge.
• "OFF" position turns off running generator, takes system
out of Automatic mode and resets any detected faults.
• "MANUAL" position starts the engine but does not
disconnect the transfer switch from utility power. It is
used for maintenance or diagnostic functions.
Circuit Breaker -- Protects the system from shorts and
other over-current conditions. Must be ON to supply
power to the Automatic Transfer Switch.
Diagnostic LED -- Used for troubleshooting operational
problems with the Home Generator System.All fault
conditions are described in the section "Fault Detection
System".
Hour Meter --The hour meter records the total number
of hours the generator hasbeen running and is usedto
schedule maintenancetasks.
Set Exercise Switch -- Used to set the exercise cycle
start time and day-of-the-week. Exercise cycle only occurs
in AUTO mode.

Access Doors
The Home Generator System isequipped with an
enclosure that hasfour accessdoors (Figure 4).The doors
are namedfor a significant component located behind
them. Starting with the side that hasthe fuel connection
and proceeding clockwise, the doors are named:
•Oil Service door
• Air Intake door
• Control Paneldoor
• Battery door
EachHome Generator System is equipped with three
identical keys.These keysfit the locks that secure the oil
service and control panel doors.
CAUTION
•Failureto installOil Serviceand/or Control Paneldoors while
operatingthe Home StandbyGenerator will causeoverheatin&
To Remove an Access Door:
I. Inserta key into the lock of the accessdoor you wish
to remove and turn one quarter turn clockwise.
NOTE: The key isretained in lock when locks are open.
2. Grasp the door's lift handle and pull the door upwards
until the security pins are free of the lower base.
3. With the security pinsfree, pull the lift handle outward
(away) from the unit while pulling the door down and
out of the upper door channel.The door will come
free of the generator enclosure.
The battery door and the air intakedoor do not have
locks or lift handles.They are opened by lifting on the
louvers insteadof a lift handle.However, you must remove
the door lockscrew, found directly above the center of the
door. Replacethe screw to secure the accessdoor.
, WARNING
DO NOT touch hot surfaces.
Allow equipment to cool before touching.
To Install an Access Door:
I. Support door by graspinglift handle or louver.Guide
top of door into generator enclosure.
2. Lift the door up into itsupper channel untilthe
security pins clear the sill of the enclosure.
3. Pushthe lower half of the door into the door recess
until it isflush with the sides.
4. Seatthe door by pushingit down until the rubber
coated security pinsengageand the door rests on the
mounting sill.
5. If installinga tockable door, turn the key one quarter
turn counterclockwise. Remove key.

BEFORE INITIAL START-UP
Engine Oil
This engine isshipped from the factory filled with the
recommended oil. Before starting the engine,check oit level
and ensure that engine is serviced as described in the
engine owner's manual.
CAUTION
• Refer to engine manual for oil fill information.
• Damage to equipment resulting from failure to follow this
instruction will void warranty.
Oil Considerations
Your Home Generator System isequipped with an engine
that hasbeen pre-run at the factory and does not require
the traditional "break-in"procedure.
In order to provide a greater "backup" capability,the

NOTE: The useof synthetic oil DOES NOT alter the
required oil changeintervalsdescribed in the engine
owner's manual.
Battery Connection
The Home Generator System issupplied with a 12Volt DC
18Amp-Hour sealed rechargeablebattery. It isinstalledin
the unit and the battery cablesare connected at the
factory.The unit's 15Amp fuse has been removed for
shipping (this prevents the unit from starting).
tCAUTION
• DO NOT install the 15Amp fuse until all plumbing and wiring
hasbeencompletedandinspected.
NOTE: With the battery installed,utility power supplied to
the Automatic Transfer Switch, and the unitinAUTO mode,
the battery receivesa trickle charge while the engine isnot
running.The trickle charger cannot be used to recharge a
battery that iscompletely discharged.
Gaseous Fuel System
•Ensurethat all fuel pipe connections are tight, secure and
without leaks.
• Ensurethat all shutoff valvesare OPEN and that
adequate pressure is available.
If you smell 'raw' gaseousfuel (natural or LP) near the unit,
immediately turn off the gassupply to the generator.
Contact your gasutility or the system installer for
assistancein determining the source of the smell.
The AUTO/OFF/MANUAL Switch
This three-position deviceisreferred to herein as
"AUTO/OFF/MANUAL". It is found on the control panel,as
shown earlier,and is used asfollows:
• "AUTO" position is the normal operating position. If a
utility power outage issensed,the system will start the
generator, let it reach stable operating speed,then
connect generator power to the transfer switch.
When utility power is restored, the system reconnects
utility power to the transfer switch, lets the engine'cool
down', shuts off the generator, and waits for the next
utility power outage.
• "OFF" position turns off a running generator, takes the
system out of Automatic mode and resets faults.The unit
will not exercise, but the 'Set Exercise' setting is not lost.
• "MANUAL" position starts the engine but does not
disconnect utility power from the transfer switch. It is
used for maintenance or diagnostic functions.
_AUTION! With the switch set to AUTO, the
engine may crank and start at any time without
warning. Suchautomatic starting normally occurs
when utility source voltage drops below a preset
level or during the normal exercise cycle.To prevent
possible injury that might be causedby such sudden
starts, alwaysset the AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch
to OFF and remove the 15Amp fuse before
working on or around the generator or transfer
switch.
The other controls and devicesinstalledon the control
panel are described on page I I,"KnowYour System
Control Panel".

AUTOMATIC OPERATION
To select automatic transfer operation, do the following:
I. Setthe main distribution panel circuit breaker that
sendsutility voltage to the transfer switch to ON.
2. Setthe AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to AUTO.
3. Setthe generator's main circuit breaker to itsON
position.
Checking Automatic Operation
To check the system for proper automatic operation,
proceed asfollows:
Check that AUTO/OFF/MANUAL is set to OFF.I.
2. Apply utility power to the Automatic Transfer Switch
by turning ON the maindistribution panel circuit
breaker.
3. Setthe AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to AUTO.The
Automatic Power System isnow ready for automatic
operation.
4. Turn OFF the main distribution panel circuit breaker
sendingpower to the automatic transfer switch.
The engine will crank and start once the utility voltage
drops out and the sensor hastimed out.After starting, the
Automatic PowerTransfer System wilt transfer essential
circuit loadsto the generator. Let the system go through its
entire automatic operation sequence.
S. With the generator output supplying itsloads,turn
ON the main distribution panel circuit breaker that
supplies utility power to the Automatic PowerTransfer
Switch.
6. After about 6 seconds,the automatic transfer switch
will transfer loads back to the utility power.
7. About one minute after re-transfer, the engine will shut
down.
This completesthe test procedures for automatic
operation.The Home Generator System will now start
automatically when utility power islost and will supply
power to the transfer switch.
Stopping the System
To disable the power transfer system for maintenance:
I. Ensurethat the main distribution panel circuit breaker
that sends utility voltage to the transfer switch isON.
2. Set the AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to OFF.
3. Set the generator's main circuit breaker to itsOFF
position.
Setting Exercise Timer
The Home Generator Systemisequipped with an exercise
timer that will start and exercise the system once every
seven days.During this exercise period, the unit runs for
approximately 12 minutes and then shuts down. Electrical
load transfer DOES NOT occur during the exercise cycle
(unless an utility power outage occurs).

A switch on the control panel is labeled"Set Exercise"
(depicted on page 10).The specific dayand the specific time
of daythis switch is pressed is programmed into the
control board memory.Thls date and time is then used to
automatically initiate the system exercise cycle.
To perform the Set Exercise procedure:
I. Choose the dayand time you want your Home
Generator Systemto exercise.
On that dayand time, set the AUTO/OFF/MANUAL
switch to OFF.

Pressand hold clown the "Set Exercise" switch until
the Diagnostic LED turns on (about five seconds).
Hold the switch down until the Diagnostic LEDturns
off. Releasethe Set Exerciseswitch.
5. Setthe AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to AUTO. "Set
Exercise" iscomplete.
For example,if you press the "Set Exercise" switch on
Sundaymorning at 10:00AM, the unit will run an exercise
cycle the following Sundayat 10:00AM.
NOTE: "Set Exercise" will only work ifthe unit isin the
Automatic mode and this exact procedure isfollowed.The
exerciser does not need to be re-set ifthe 15Amp fuse is
removed or changed.The exerciser will need to be re-set if
the 12Volt DC battery isdisconnected.
If you want to changethe day and time the unit exercises,
simply perform the "Set Exercise" procedure at the exact
weekday and time you want it to take place.

MAINTENANCE
Fault Detection System
The generator may haveto run for longperiods of time
with no operator present. For that reason,the system is
equipped with sensors that automatically shut clown the
generator in the event of potentially damagingconditions,
such aslow oil pressure,high oil temperature, over speed,
and other conditions.
A light on the generator's control panel iscalled the
Diagnostic LED.A similar LED indicatoris installed at a
convenient inside location.Both LED'swill turn on and off
in the same series of blinks if certain problems are
detected in your HGS.The blink pattern is repeated with a
brief pausebetween eachseries.The number of blinks in
the series indicatesthe detected fault, aslisted near the
control panel,on the mounting plate and below:

Reset Fault Detection System
The operator must reset the fault detection system each
time it activates.To do so, placethe AUTO/OFF/MANUAL
switch in the OFF position for 30 seconds or more.
Return the Home Generator Systemto service after
correcting the problem by placingthe
AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch in the AUTO position.
A description of eachfault and suggestedremedies are as
follows:
No Blinks - 'Dead' Unit
This condition iscaused by a completely dead starting
battery.To remedy the problem, remove the 15Amp fuse
and disconnect the battery from the generator.Take the
battery to a localbattery store for analysis.
Replacethe battery in the battery compartment after it has
been fully recharged,connecting the NEGATIVE cable last.
Install the 15Amp fuse.Resetthe Fault Detection system
asdescribed above.
Low Battery Voltage
This fault isindicatedby one blink.This condition occurs if
the generator cannot start becausethe starting battery
output power isbelow that needed to 'turn-over' the
engine.Causesfor this problem may be a failed battery or a
failed trickle charger circuit
To remedy the problem, remove the 15Amp fuse and
disconnect the battery from the generator.Take the battery
to a localbattery store for analysis.
Replacethe battery inthe battery compartment after it has
been fully recharged,connecting the NEGATIVE cable last.
Install the 15Amp fuse.Reset the Fault Detection system
as described above.Check battery trickle charge output.
Low Oil Pressure
This fault isindicatedby two blinks.The unitisequipped
with an oil pressure switch (Figure 5) usingnormally closed
contacts that are held open by engine oil pressure during
operation. Should oil pressure drop below the 8 psi range,
switch contacts close and the engine isshut down.

To remedy the low oil pressure condition, fix anyobvious
oil leak and/or add the recommended oil to the FULL mark
on the dipstick. Resetthe Fault Detection system as
described above.
If low oil pressure condition still exists,engine will start,
then shut clown after about I0 secondsand diagnostic LED
will flash.In this case,contact an authorized service facility.

Low Voltage
This fault isindicatedby three blinks.This condition is
causedby a restriction in the fuel flow, a broken or
disconnected signallead,a failed alternator winding, the
control panel circuit breaker isopen, or overloaded circuits
in the transfer switch.
Remedy the problem (you may need to contact your
installeror Briggsand Stratton TechnicalServicesfor
assistance),then reset the Fault Detection system, as
described above.
Engine FailTo Start
This fault isindicatedby four blinks.This feature prevents
the generator from damagingitselfifit continually attempts
to start in spite of another problem, such asno fuel supply.
Eachtime the system isdirected to start, the unit will
crank for 15seconds,pausefor 15 seconds,crank for
15 seconds,pausefor 15 seconds,and repeat. If the system
does not begin producing electricity after approximately
90 seconds,the unit will stop cranking and the LED will
blink.
The most likelycause of this problem isno fuel supply.
Check the insideand outside fuel shut off valvesto ensure
they are fully open. Other causescould be failed spark
plug(s),failed engine ignition,or the engine air filter is
clogged.Youmay need to contact your installerfor
assistanceifyou can't remedy these problems.When the
problem iscorrected, reset the Fault Detection system as
described above.
Low Frequency
This fault isindicatedby S blinks.This feature protects
devicesconnected to the transfer switch by shutting the
generator down if itsengine runs slower than the preset
limit.
This condition iscaused by a failed enginegovernor or by
excessiveloadson the transfer switch.To remedy the
problem, you may need to contact your installer or Briggs
and Stratton TechnicalServicesfor assistance.When the
problem iscorrected, reset the Fault Detection system as
described above.
Engine Overspeed
This fault isindicatedby 6 blinks.This feature protects
devices connected to the transfer switch by shutting the
generator down if itsengine happensto run faster than the
preset limitThe overspeed fault isdetected asfollows:
•If the generator output frequency runs at 72 Hz for five
seconds,the generator will shut down.
• If the generator output frequency reaches75 Hz,the
generator will shut clown instantly.
This condition iscaused by a failed engine governor.To
remedy the problem, you should contact your installer or
Briggsand Stratton TechnicalServicesfor assistance.When
the problem iscorrected, reset the Fault Detection system
as described above.
Oil Temperature High
Thisfault isindicatedby seven blinks.The contacts of the
temperature switch (Figure 5) are normally open. If the
engine temperature exceeds approximately 140°C (284°F),
the fault isdetected and the engine shuts down.
Common causesfor this condition include running the unit
with all accessdoors removed,obstructed air inlet or
exhaust port, or debris inthe engine cylinder cooling fins.
To resolve the problem, remove anyaccumulated debris
and obstructions and let the engine cool down. Ensurethat
the Oil Service door and/or the Control Paneldoor is
installed whenever the unit isrunning.When the problem is
corrected, reset the Fault Detection system asdescribed
above.
Power During Fault Condition
Whenever the Home Generator System isin an
uncorrected fault condition, the automatic transfer switch
is reset to UTILITY POWER.This meansthat when utility
power is restored, utility power will be applied to the
essential circuit loads.The generator is disconnected from
the automatic transfer switch for the duration of any
detected fault condition.

MAINTENANCE
The generatorwarranty does not cover itemsthathave
been subjectedto operatorabuse or negligence.Toreceive
fullvaluefrom the warranty,the operator must maintain
the system as instructedinthe engineowner'smanual.
Alladjustmentsshouldbe made atleastonce each season.
Followthe requirementsinthe engineowner's manual.
Generator maintenanceconsistsof keepingthe unitclean.
Operate the unitinan environmentwhere itwillnot be
exposed to excessivedust,dirt,moistureor any corrosive
vapors.Cooling airlouverson the enclosuremust not
become cloggedwith snow,leaves,or any otherforeign
material.
Check the cleanliness of the unit frequently and clean when
dust, dirt, oit, moisture or other foreign substances are
visible on its exterior/interior surface.
NOTE: DO NOT use direct spray from a garden hose to
clean generator.Water can enter the engine and generator
and cause problems.
Changing Engine Oil
Placethe oil drain tube into an approved container.
Pushin and rotate the oll drain fitting I/4 turn
counterclockwise. Slowly putl outward until oit starts
draining (Figure 6). DO NOT pull the oil drain fitting off
the engine.
When the oil hasdrained, push the oit drain fitting in
and rotate I/4 turn clockwise until it locks in place.
Slide the oil drain tube up into the clamp on the
generator.
CAUTION
• Refer to engine manual for oil fill information.
•Damageto equipment resulting from failure to follow this
instruction will void warranty.
To fill your engine with oil:
Follow the synthetic oll grade recommendation and oit
fill instructions given in the engine owner's manual.
To Clean the Generator
• Use a damp cloth to wipe exterior surfaces clean.
CAUTION
DO NOT expose generator to excessive moisture, dust, dirt,
or corrosive vapors.
DO NOT insert any objects through cooling slots.
•Use a soft, bristle brush to loosen caked on dirt, oil, etc.
• Use avacuum cleaner to pick up loosedirt and debris.
• Use low pressureair (not to exceed25 psi)to blow away
dirt. Inspectcooling air slotsand openingson the generator.
These openingsmustbe kept cleanand unobstructed.
