Dear Customer,
The podiatry couch MOON is the top-of-the-line model ofthe new couch series
from RUCK. Tested and approved as a Class1 medical product, the podiatry
couch can bear loads of up to 250kg. The MOON series thanks its unique char-
acter to the moulded wood elements, which can be selected in a walnut CPL,
oak CPL or white CPL nish. It is the perfect combination of ergonomics for
the operator and comfort for the patient. Other options are leg support adjust-
ment via a magnetic extension without rotary knob, the electrical leg height
adjustment, a back inclination adjustment with patient switch and a special
soft cushion. Both variants of the foot switch have four memory functions and
can be individually congured for up to three operators.
These instructions for use provide a basic introduction to the functions and
use of the podiatry couches. At the same time they are a xed component of
the medical product and thus must be kept on hand in the immediate vicinity
for all operators. Please read these instructions for use carefully all the way
through before commissioning the device.
This podiatry couch has been manufactured with the greatest care for you
in the RUCK factory in Neuenbürg Germany and is subject to ongoing quality
control. Nevertheless, if you are not satised or if you have questions, please
contact our service department.

These instructions are intended for buyers, owners and operators of the podi-
atry couch. These instructions are not intended for the persons to be treated.
A specication of the intended operators is given in the section "Prerequisites
and qualications of operators" on page 14.
According to the German Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetrV), the
owner of the podiatry couch must instruct the operators, make the instructions
for use accessible and demonstrate that they have been read and understood.
Please make sure to observe the applicable national regulations and laws in
the country or region of use.

2.2 Functionality
The podiatry couch is equipped with up to ve electric motors. The motors
can be activated individually or via the memory buttons. A separate motor is
used for adjustment of the seat section and backrest, as well as the height
adjustment. The podiatry couch can be continuously adjusted by motor from a
sitting position to a at position.
The podiatry couch can be rotated manually and the leg supports can be
adjusted via gas pressure springs, or optionally they can be adjusted via elec-
tric drives. The foot supports can be xed in place via clamp levers or optionally
via magnetic switches.
2.3 Intended usage
The podiatry couch is used for supporting persons in a sitting or reclining
position for the duration of treatment under supervision (maximum 6–7 hours).
The podiatry couch is intended for use in practices for podiatry, foot care and/
or orthopaedics, in diabetic outpatient foot clinics, and in medical practices
and medical clinics.
Maximum weight of the person being treated: 250kg. Only 1person is allowed
on the couch at a time. Minors and persons with mental, sensory or motor
impairments must be constantly supervised by the operator.
Any other use is non-intended use.
Intended use also includes compliance with all instructions, safety instructions
and regulations specied in these instructions for use.
Conversions, modications, attachment of supplemental equipment that is
not provided by the manufacturer are not permitted. Exceptions can only be
approved by the manufacturer in writing.
If the device is not used as intended, all liability is excluded and the warranty
is rendered null and void.

IMPORTANT
Make sure that the relative humidity does not fall below 30%. If the
oor is made of synthetic material and the humidity is too low, electro-
static discharges could aect the functioning of the unit.

The person must have appropriate expertise and be authorised to treat
patients.

3 Basic safety instructions
The following notices are provided for the safety for all persons who
own, operate or are treated on the podiatry couch.
Observe and adhere to the notices to avoid personal injury. If you ignore
the safety instructions and warning notices, you bear the responsibility.
Liability of the manufacturer is excluded.
3.1 Hazards due to an unsuitable installation site
WARNING
Make sure that the podiatry couch is positioned so that all parts of the
couch are a sucient distance from walls and other furnishings. If the
backrest comes up against the wall and the drive continues to run, the
couch will be pushed away from the wall. The backrest can suddenly
drop down all the way. This can startle or even injure the patient. It can
also destroy the motor.
Move the couch into all positions before a person sits on it for the rst
time.
Make sure that the couch is level and stable. Rocking motions of
the couch or a leaning couch can lead to undesired and dangerous
changes in the position of the person being treated.
Use the supplied levelling pads to ensure the couch is in a stable and
secure position.
DANGER
Do not operate the podiatry couch in rooms containing ammable or
explosive substances. Danger of re or explosion!

Basic safety instructions
WARNING
Make sure that no more than 1 person is on the couch at the same
time and that the permissible weight of 250kg is not exceeded. Risk
of injury due to breaking the couch or falling o the couch.
Only operate drives when you have ensured that the patient is not
endangered by the change in position.
Make sure that no limbs are located in moving parts of the mechanism.
Danger of crushing and shearing.
Make sure that no one sits or leans on the armrests, footrests or head
end of the couch. Components can break if placed under too much
load. Maximum permissible load on these components: 20kg each.
Breaking components can cause injury to people.
Do not leave minors or persons with mental, sensory or motor
impairments unattended on the couch. Risk of injury due to incorrect
operation or falling from the couch.
Take appropriate measures to ensure that the couch can only be used
by persons who are authorised to do so.
Do this by disconnecting the mains plug, switching o the power
socket or locking the treatment room whenever you are not carrying
out a treatment.

3.3 Electromagnetic disturbances – Requirements and tests
The emitted interference and interference immunity ratings of the podiatry
couch meet the requirements imposed on devices that are not intended for
life-support in the typical clinical environment. Medical electrical equipment
is subject to particular precautionary measures relative to electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC). These devices must be installed and operated in accord-
ance with the EMC instructions in the accompanying documents. Detailed
information on emitted interference and interference immunity is provided on
the pages starting at 59.
In particular, observe the following notices in order to avoid unwanted and
potentially dangerous eects.
WARNING
Ensure a minimum distance of 30 cm between the podiatry couch
and mobile high-frequency communication devices.
Such devices include cordless phones, mobile phones, laptops with
Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capability and accessories such as antenna cables
and external antennas.
These devices can aect medical electrical equipment.
Ensure a minimum distance of 30 cm between the podiatry couch
and other electrical equipment.
If it must be operated in the vicinity of other devices, you should
observe the podiatry couch to verify that it can be safely operated as
intended when in this arrangement.
IMPORTANT
The emission properties of the podiatry couch are suitable for use
in industrial areas and hospitals. If the couch is used in a residential
environment, it is possible that it will not provide adequate protection
for high frequency communication services. The operator may need
to take remedial action, such as relocating or repositioning the couch.

WARNING
Do not carry out any conversions, modications, repairs or mainte-
nance on the podiatry couch that are not described in these instruc-
tions for use and have not been authorised by the manufacturer.
Do not use any accessories, converters or cables that have not been
approved or provided by the manufacturer.
Unauthorised modications or unsuitable accessories can lead to the
following hazards:
›Risk of injury due to sharp-edged, breakable or overloaded
components
›Risk of injury due to malfunctions
›Increased electromagnetic interference emission
›Reduced interference immunity
3.4 Hazardsduetomodicationstothedevice
WARNING
Before every treatment, make sure that all accessible components
of the podiatry couch are present and undamaged. This applies
especially to safety devices, coverings and the mains cable. Check all
functions of the couch before each treatment.
Missing or damaged components can endanger operators and
patients.
Contact RUCK Service immediately to have any identied defects
remedied as quickly as possible.
Only operate the podiatry couch again after all defects have been
eliminated or after consultation with the manufacturer.

fection can lead to transmission of disease. Observe the requirements
of the responsible national body for hygiene and disinfection.

4.1 Scope of delivery
Verify that the delivery is complete.

4.2 Delivery and temporary storage
The podiatry couch should be delivered and temporarily stored in the transport
box.
4.3 Storage conditions
Ambient temperature -15°C to +40°C
Air humidity 30 – 75%
Permissible air pressure: 700 – 1060 hPa.
4.4 Delivery
If delivered at a cold time of the year (outdoor temperature <5°C), a condition-
ing period of at least 48h should be observed.
Prior to commissioning, check whether the mains voltage agrees with the rated
voltage and frequency specied on the rating plate (on the rear of the sheet
metal cladding). Connect the podiatry couch with the provided mains cable
(rolled cable length: 180cm) to a power socket with a protective earth contact.
