F. Place t acto in gea and p oceed fo wa d.
Advance t acto th ottle to co ect PTO speed fo
implement (540 RPM). T acto fo wa d speed
should be cont olled by gea selection, not engine
speed. For maximum cutting efficiency, forward
speed should allow cutter to maintain a con-
stant, maximum blade speed. Failu e to maintain
p ope blade RPM will esult in poo cutting pe fo -
mance and excessive blade and blade bolt wea . If
PTO d ive is disengaged due to cutte stalling o
t acto engine bogging, cutte must be aised to
maximum cutting height and t acto th ottle educed
to idle befo e e-engaging. When in a eas with tall,
dense mate ial, the f ont skids may push mate ial
ove and hold it down long enough to p event blades
f om cutting it. This will be evidenced by st eaking in
the skid a ea. To alleviate this p oblem, emove the
f ont skids.
IMPORTANT
DURING OPERATION, STOP AT REGULAR
INTERVALS AND CLEAN ACCUMULATED
DEBRIS FROM THE TOP OF CUTTER DECK,
ESPECIALLY AROUND DRIVELINES AND GEAR-
BOXES. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT MATERIAL
FROM CATCHING FIRE.
ALL ROTARY CUTTERS HAVE THE ABILITY
TO DISCHAR E OBJECTS AT HI H SPEEDS
WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY
TO BYSTANDERS OR PASSERS-BY.
THEREFORE, THIS CUTTER IS NOT TO BE
OPERATED ALON HI HWAYS OR IN ANY
AREA WHERE PEOPLE MAY BE PRESENT
UNLESS ALL SIDES OF THE UNIT ARE
ENCLOSED BY PERMANENT BANDS, SAFE-
TY CHAINS, OR OTHER FACTORY APPROVED
SAFETY SHIELDS THAT ARE IN OOD REPAIR.

MAINTENANCE
4-1 MAINTENANCE CHECK LIST
Pe fo m scheduled maintenance as outlined below.
Lowe machine to g ound, tu n off t acto and set
pa king b ake befo e doing maintenance, inspec-
tions, o wo k. Some checks may equi e aising
machine off g ound and suppo ting with blocks. All
bolts should be to qued as ecommended in To que
Cha t unless othe wise indicated.
THE CUTTER CAN FALL FROM HYDRAULIC
SYSTEM FAILURE . TO AVOID SERIOUS
INJURY OR DEATH, SECURELY SUPPORT
CUTTER BEFORE WORKIN UNDERNEATH.
BEFORE EACH USE
1. Make ce tain d iveline shields a e in place and in
good epai to minimize entanglement inju ies to
pe sons by otating d ivelines. D iveline shields
should be chained fo non- otation.
2. Make ce tain deflecto shields (chains, bands,
etc.) a e in good epai to minimize inju ies to
pe son by the discha ge of high speed th own
objects.
3. Inspect blades fo wea . Replace if necessa y
pe pa ag aph 4-3. Always replace both
blades on spindle with two blades equal in
weight. Use only genuine Bush Hog replace-
ment blades.
4. Check blade bolts for tightness.Tighten to 450 ft./lbs.
5. Check blades and spindles to be su e that no fo -
eign objects such as wi e o steel st apping bands
a e w apped a ound them.
6. Inspect hyd aulic lines and fittings fo wea o
leaks. Repai o eplace if needed.
WARNIN
USE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD OR WOOD
RATHER THAN HANDS AND WEAR EYE
PROTECTION WHEN SEARCHIN FOR
HYDRAULIC LEAKS. ESCAPIN HYDRAULIC
OIL UNDER PRESSURE CAN PENETRATE
THE SKIN. IF OIL IS INJECTED INTO THE
SKIN, IT MUST BE SUR ICALLY REMOVED
WITHIN A FEW HOURS BY A DOCTOR OR
AN RENE MAY RESULT.
7. Inspect wheel(s) fo wea , damage o fo eign
objects. Repai o eplace if necessa y.
8. Check t acto ti e ai p essu e. Refe to t acto
ope ato ’s manual.
9. Pe fo m BEFORE EACH USE lub ication pe
pa ag aph 4-2.
10. Du ing ope ation, listen fo abno mal sounds
which might indicate loose pa ts, damaged bea -
ings o othe damage.
11. Check tapered pin retaining each end of each
driveline for tightness. Tighten nut to 30 ft./lbs.
Use only genuine Bush Hog replacement parts.
AFTER EACH USE
1. Clean all deb is f om machine and affixed safety
decals. Replace any missing o illegible decals.
2. Inspect cutte fo wo n o damaged components.
Repai o eplace befo e next use. Any eplace-
ment components installed du ing epai shall
include the components cu ent safety decals
specified by the manufactu e to be affixed to the
component.
3. Sto e cutte in a d y place.
