Installation Manual
CAE ULTRA-SHIFTER for HONDA Civic FK8 Type R
The shifter is intended for cars with complete interior equipment.
The center console must be removed and reinstalled for installation.
center console needs to be trimmed just minimally
Lubricate all moving parts regularly with good spray grease, e.g.
Lift the rubber caps on the ball heads.
We recommend Würth HHS 2000
To clean the aluminum parts, we recommend commercially available alcohol.
Never spray degreaser into the bearing
points, this will cause the bearings to seize
immediately
Removing the stock shifter:
• Remove the center console completely.
Shift the transmission into neutral
• Detach the shift cables from the balls and
the bulkhead. To release the cables from the
shifter housing, the pawl must be pushed
back, then turn the cables 90º and remove
them
• Unscrew and remove the original shift lever
2
Machining the shift cables
•The original ball sockets of the shift
cables must be sawn / separated
exactly 12mm away from the plastic
part.
•Deburr the 6mm core of the shift
cables.
3
•Push the supplied
steel ball pans
onto the ropes and
tighten the grub
screws; here too
we recommend
using a small drop
of screw adhesive.
•In neutral, at least
7mm space must
remain on the ball
socket "W" to the
black sleeve
CHECK:
Push the cable all the way in (Level 1/2)
Then there must be 1-2 mm space left to the sleeve
•When sliding the ball sockets on, pay attention to the alignment so
that the cables do not have to be twisted later:
➢Opening of the ball socket selector cable "W" points to the lefts
➢Opening of the ball socket shifting cable "S" points upwards
4
Mounting CAE Shifter
• Place the two base Bars on the
threaded holes and screw on with
the supplied countersunk screws,
we recommend a small drop of
screw adhesive per screw.
> 90mm bar in front
> 80mm bar at the back
Pay attention to the correct
alignment of the base bars, see
picture
• Position the CAE shifter and
insert the shift cables into the
shifter housing; Immediately
insert the cables into the
respective bracket and fasten
by turning 90º. (cables do
not lock)
This works best if the shifter
is put to the right or left to
the side.
5
Pay attention to the position of the lugs on the shift cables:
6
•Then place the
CAE Shifter on the
bars and screw it
tight with the 4
nuts.
• Grease the ball pans and press them onto the balls of the gear lever and selector
lever
•The pan of the selector cable "W" must fit without moving the lever or the
cable, otherwise readjust the spring stop or change the position of the ball
socket on the selector cable.
(see adjustment of the Shifter)
Generally grease each ball socket and bearing pin & bushings.
Glue in all nuts / screws during assembly!
Never bend the shift cables
7
Adjustment of the Shifter - 6-speed
•• Adjust / check the middle position of the shift lever, it should be inclined
approx. 3-5º to the left, this is position 3/4 (middle position)
The side Unibal connecting rod
should not be adjusted!!
•• Adjust the spring stop:
the gear lever should be
inclined slightly to the
left.
If the spring stop is setted
correctly, the lateral play
is the same to the right
and left side when the
gear 3 or 4 is engaged
•This is the basic
setting of the
shifter and must be
carried out
correctly!!
8
•Now use the gear lever to shift gear in level 1/2 and adjust the stop screw
until the gears in level 1/2 can be changed cleanly.
(When the gear is engaged, the screw has no contact with the bolt (approx.
0.5 mm play)
• Now use the gear lever to shift in 5th / 6th level and screw in the stop
screw until 5th / 6th gear can be engaged properly.
(The screw has no contact with the bolt when the gear is engaged, the
shifter largely resets in ¾)
• Operate the reverse gear locking pin by pulling and shift the gearbox to
the reverse gear level. ( rightmost )
Screw in the appropriate stop screw until the reverse gear can be engaged
properly.
(Screw has no contact with the bolt when the gear is engaged (approx.
0.5mm play)
9
Mount the cotter clips on the ball sockets:
Check all functions and settings in the driving test and adjust if
necessary. Incorrect or inaccurate setting can lead to gearbox
damage, damage to the shifter or the shift cables !!!
For an optimal shifting experience, the shifter must be set
correctly.
We recommend completely connecting the switch console for
driving tests
10
Install the center console after driving test.
The plastic tab shown must be shortened, this can be done easily with a cutter
knife when installed.
If problems occur during installation, please contact us.
We rely on your feedback to continuously optimize our products.
CAE wish you a good trip
If the shifter is being reassembled, the
supplied connection sleeves hast o be mounted as shown
