Product Overview and Access
Overview and dimensions of the ODC-80
cabinet
The Calix ODC-80 is an environmentally controlled, enclosure for deploying the Calix C7
in outdoor locations. This is a high-capacity cabinet containing 4 Calix C7 shelves and
delivering up to 1920 lines of copper and fiber service.
ODC-80 description
You can configure the Calix ODC-80 for copper service, fiber service, or a combination
of both. You can also migrate from copper to fiber service in the field.
The cabinet contains the following compartments.
• 2 front equipment compartments housing 2 Calix C7 shelves each
(total of 4 shelves)
• 2 rear copper protection compartments
• 1 side fiber splice compartment with AC entry
• 1 side copper splice compartment
• 2 battery compartments housing 2 battery trays each
(total of 4 battery trays)

Front access
The front of the ODC-80 provides access to the equipment compartments for 4 Calix C7
shelves and power distribution equipment.
Equipment in the front compartment
Equipment in the front compartments of an ODC-80 include:
• AC load center with AC entry
• Optional generator connector
• 4 Calix C7 shelves
• 2 power shelves and rectifiers
• DC distribution panel

Side splice access
The side compartments of the ODC-80 provide access to entry and splicing areas for
subscriber fiber, copper cable, AC entry, and ground.
Fiber splicing in the right side compartment
The fiber splice compartment is on the right side as you face the cabinet. This
compartment contains:
• Entry plates for subscriber fiber
• Access holes for equipment fiber
• Pegboard panel for the mounting of fiber splice trays and fiber distribution
cassettes supporting up to 1920 fibers
• AC power and ground entry
Copper splicing in the left side compartment
The copper splice compartment is on the left side as you face the cabinet. This
compartment contains:
• Entry plates for subscriber copper cable
• Access holes for equipment copper cable
• Pegboard panel for the mounting and splicing of 1920 copper lines

Rear access
The rear of the ODC-80 provides access to the copper protection compartments and the
backs of 4 Calix C7 shelves.
Copper protection in the rear compartments
The copper protection in the rear compartments contains 8 panels holding 40 copper
protection blocks for the 4 Calix C7 shelves.

Opening and closing compartment doors
You open and close the compartment doors on a cabinet using the provided hex-key.
Procedure to open the door
Procedure to close a cabinet door
Step Action
1. Insert and turn the key to release the door handle.
2. Pull the handle up to unlatch the door.
3. Swing the door open until the retainer latch engages to
hold the door in place.
4. Pull out the door alarm switch in the top corner of the door
opening to disarm the door alarm.
Step Action
1. Pull the retainer latch release tab to release the door.
2. Hold the door handle up, then push the door closed and press the handle
against the cabinet.
If the handle does not lock in place, insert and turn the key until it clicks.
Then, press the handle latch into place.

Battery access
The battery compartments house 4 sliding battery trays. Each tray holds one battery string
made up of four batteries.
You can access the battery compartments from the front or rear of the cabinet.
• Use the front to service the batteries in the sliding trays.
• Use the rear to access the battery temperature sensors and seismic fasteners.
Procedure to remove a battery compartment panel
Step Action
1. Insert the key into a latch and turn it counterclockwise until it
stops to release the panel latch.
Repeat for all other latches on the panel.
2. Lift the panel slightly to free the tabs at the bottom of the panel from the
cabinet, then lay the panel down in front of the compartment.
3. On the panel, remove the ground strap from the panel.
4. Set the battery compartment panel out of your way.

Procedure to replace a battery compartment panel
Step Action
1. Reattach the grounding strap to the panel.
2. Align the tabs at the bottom of the panel with the
cutouts in the bottom of the battery compartment
and tilt the panel into place.
3. Insert the key into a latch and turn it clockwise until the
inner keyhole notch aligns with the outer keyhole notch.
Repeat for all latches on the panel.

Cooling Fan Access
Lift the roof of the cabinet to access the cooling fans.
Location of roof retaining bolts
The ODC-80 roof is held in place by 3 retaining bolts at the front of the cabinet.
Procedure to open the roof of the cabinet
Step Action
1. Open the front and side cabinet doors to access the underside of the roof
overhang.
2. Locate the retaining bolts in the front of the roof
overhang and remove them using a 5/16" allen wrench.
An allen wrench is provided with the cabinet.
3. Push the front edge of the roof up until the support arm locks into place.

Procedure to close the roof of the cabinet
Step Action
1. Hold the front edge of the roof and press the release
button on the support arm, then lower the roof.
2. Open the front and side cabinet doors to access the underside of the roof
overhang.
3. Locate the retaining bolt holes in the front of the roof overhang, then insert
the bolts and tighten them using a 5/16" allen wrench.
An allen wrench is provided with the cabinet.

Installation Prerequisites
Site requirements
You will need a concrete pad with conduit entry for subscriber cables, AC power, and
ground to support the Calix ODC-80.
Install a ground rod, or similar grounding device, with a maximum resistance to ground of
20 ohms near the pad site.
See the "Calix ODC-80 Pour-In-Place Template Instructions" if you plan to construct the
pad using a Calix template.
Footprint dimensions
Recommended pad dimensions are 148 inches by 96 inches; 5 1/2 inches deep. Pad depth
may vary depending on site and environmental conditions.
These pad dimensions allow for full door clearance around the cabinet.

Cable requirements
Recommended ground cable requirements
• Use AWG #2 cable (AWG #6 minimum).
• Use a 2-hole compression lug with hole spacing of 5/8", 1", or 1-1/4", and a bolt
size of 1/4".
• Leave 4 feet of cable above the top of the pad.
Recommended AC power cable requirements
• Use AWG #6 cable minimum.
• Leave 6 feet of cable above the top of the pad.
• Follow National Electric Code (NEC) and local codes when installing AC power.
Recommended copper subscriber cable requirements
• Leave 8 to 10 feet of cable above the top of the pad.
• Have appropriate termination equipment and tools available.
Recommended fiber cable requirements
• Use single-mode fiber only.
• Use a fiber splice value no greater than 0.5 dB loss.
• Leave 6 feet of cable above the top of the pad.
Note
Modify for local conditions
Local climatic conditions, site conditions, or local practices may
require modifications to cable termination. The following are
minimum requirements.
