This general manual provi es important safety
information relating to the installation, maintenance
an han ling of bifacial ouble glass solar mo ules.
Professional installer must rea these gui elines
carefully an strictly follow these instructions. Failure to
follow these instructions may result in eath, injury or
property amage. The installation an han ling of PV
mo ules requires professional skills an shoul only be
performe by qualifie professionals. Installers must
inform en -users (consumers) the aforesai information
accor ingly.
The wor “mo ule” or “PV mo ule” use in this manual
refers to one or more ouble glass solar mo ules. This
manual is only vali for the bifacial ouble glass mo ule
type CS3U-MB-FG, CS3K-MB-FG, CS3U-MB-AG, CS3K-
MB-AG, CS3U-PB-FG, CS3K-PB-FG, CS3U-PB-AG an CS3K-
PB-AG. Please retain this manual for future reference.

2.0 safetY PRecautIons
Warning: Before attempting to install, wire,
operate an /or service the mo ule an other
electrical equipment, all instructions
shoul be rea an un erstoo . PV mo ule
interconnectors pass irect current (DC) when expose to
sunlight or other light sources. Contact with electrically
active parts of the mo ule, such as terminals, can result
in injury or eath, irrespective of whether or not the
mo ule an the other electrical equipment have been
connecte .

GeneRal safetY
· All Mo ules must be installe by license electricians
in accor ance with the applicable electrical co es
such as, the latest National Electrical Co e (USA) or
Cana ian Electric Co e (Cana a) or other national or
international electrical co es.
Protective clothing (non-slip gloves, clothes,
etc.) must be worn uring installation to
prevent irect contact with 30 V DC or greater,
an to protect han s from sharp e ges.
Prior to installation, remove all metallic jewelry
to prevent acci ental exposure to live circuits.
When installing mo ules in light rain, morning
ew, take appropriate measures to prevent
water ingress into the connector.
Do not allow chil ren or unauthorize persons
near the installation site or mo ule storage
area.
· Use electrically insulate tools to re uce the risk of
electric shock.
· If the isconnects an over current protective evices
(OCPD) cannot be opene or the inverter cannot be
powere own, cover the fronts an backs of mo ules
in the PV array with an opaque material to stop the
pro uction of electricity when installing or working on

a mo ule or wiring.

broken. This may cause electric shock.

the mo ules or an external source is present.

mecHanIcal electRIcal sPecIfIcatIons
Mo ule electrical ratings are measure un er Stan ar Test
Con itions (STC) of 1000 W/m2 irra iance, with an AM 1.5

characteristics un er STC are also state on each mo ule
label. Please refer to the atasheet or the pro uct
nameplate for the maximum system voltage.
Un er certain con itions, a mo ule may pro uce
higher current or voltage than its STC rate power. As
a result, a mo ule open-circuit voltage an short-circuit
current un er STC shoul be multiplie by 1.25 when
etermining component voltage ratings, con uctor
ampacities, overcurrent evice ratings, an the size
of controls connecte to the PV output. For Bifacial
mo ules, the operating current is relate to specific
mounting con itions, an will vary un er ifferent
mo ule mounting height an albe o of groun surface.
A higher multiplier than 1.25 may be consi ere by
system esign engineers accor ing to relevant esign
co es an system simulation results.
An a itional 1.25 multiplier for the short-circuit current
(giving a total multiplier of 1.56), may be applicable when
sizing con uctors an fuses, as escribe in section 690-
8 of U.S. NEC. Electrical calculations an esign must be
performe by competent engineer or consultant.

Alternatively, a more accurate correction factor for the
open-circuit voltage can be calculate using the following
formula:

4.0
unPacKInG and stoRaGe
PRecautIons
· Mo ules shoul be store in a ry an ventilate
environment to avoi irect sunlight an moisture. If
mo ules are store in an uncontrolle environment,
the storage time shoul be less than 3 months
an extra precautions shoul be taken to prevent
sunlight exposure to mo ules ormoisture exposure to
connectors. Specific T4 connector en caps are available
on request.
· Unpack mo ule pallets carefully, following the steps
shown on the pallet. Unpack, transport an store the
mo ules with care.
· Mo ules must always be unpacke an installe by
two people. Always use both han s when han ling
mo ules.
· do not lift mo ules by their wires or junction box.
· do not stack the mo ules.
· do not place excessive loa s on the mo ule or twist
the mo ule.
· do not stan , step, walk an /or jump on mo ules
un er any circumstances. Localize heavy loa s may
cause severe micro-cracks at cell level, which in turn
may compromise mo ule reliability an voi Cana ian

PRoduct IdentIfIcatIon
· Each mo ule has two i entical barco es (one insi e
the laminate un er the front glass, the secon on the
rear si e of the mo ule) that act as a unique i entifier.
Each mo ule has a unique serial number containing 14
igits.
· A nameplate is also affixe to the rear glass of each
mo ule. This nameplate specifies the mo el type, as
well as the main electrical an safety characteristics of
the mo ule.
5.0 module InstallatIon
PRecautIonaRY measuRes and
GeneRal safetY
· Prior to installing mo ules please obtain information
about any requirements an necessary approvals for
the site, installation an inspection from the relevant
authorities.
· Check applicable buil ing co es to ensure that the

been qualifie for Application Class A (equivalent to
Safety Class II requirements). Mo ules rate un er this
class shoul be use in systems operating at voltage
above 50V or power above 240W, where general
contact access is anticipate .
· Cana ian Solar Inc. ouble glass mo ules have been
certifie by CSA as Type 3 or Type 13 an by VDE
as Class A for fire performance, please refer to the
atasheet or the pro uct nameplate for the etaile
types.

ul 1703 sYstem fIRe RatInG RequIRements
· The fire rating for this mo ule is only vali when the
pro uct is installe as specifie in the mechanical
mounting instructions.
· When installing the mo ules on a rooftop, ensure the
assembly is mounte over a fire resistant roof covering
rate for the application.
· A photovoltaic system compose of UL1703 certifie
mo ules mounte on a UL2703 certifie mounting
system shoul be evaluate in combination with roof
coverings in accor ance with UL1703 stan ar , with
respect to meeting the same fire classification as the
roof assembly.
· Mounting systems with a System Fire Class Rating (Class
A, B or C), teste in conjunction with fire rate “Type 3”
or “Type 13” rate mo ules, are consi ere acceptable
for use with Cana ian Solar Inc. mo ules, provi es
the mounting system oes not violate any other
requirements of this manual.
· Any mounting system limitations on inclination or
accessories require to maintain a specific System
Fire Class Rating shoul be clearly specifie in the
installation instructions an UL2703 certification of the
mounting system supplier.
envIRonmental condItIons
· The mo ule is inten e for use in general open-air
climates, as efine in IEC 60721-2-1: Classification
of environmental con itions Part 2-1: Environmental
con itions appearing in nature - temperature an
humi ity.
· Please consult the Cana ian Solar Inc. technical support
epartment for more information on the use of mo ules
in special climates.
· Do not install mo ules near open flames or flammable
materials.
· Do not immerse mo ules in water or constantly expose
mo ules to water (neither fresh nor salt) (i.e. from
fountains, sea spray).
· Exposing mo ules to salt (i.e. marine environments) or
sulfur (i.e. sulfur sources, volcanoes) incurs the risk of
mo ule corrosion.
· Failure to comply with these instructions will voi
Cana ian Solar Inc. warranty.
InstallatIon RequIRements
· Ensure that the mo ule meets the general technical
system requirements.
· Ensure that other systems components o not amage
mo ules mechanically or electrically.
· Mo ules can be wire in series to increase voltage or in
parallel to increase current. To connect mo ules in series,
connect the cables from the positive terminal of one
mo ule to the negative terminal of the next mo ule. To
connect in parallel, connect the cables from the positive
terminal of one mo ule to the positive terminal on the
next mo ule.
· Only connect the quantity of mo ules that correspon s
to the voltage specifications of the inverters use in the
system. Mo ules must NOT be connecte together to
create a voltage higher than the maximum permitte
system voltage, even un er the worst local temperature
con itions.
· A maximum of two strings can be connecte in parallel
without using over-current protection evice (fuses, etc.)
incorporate in series within each string. Three of more
strings can be connecte in parallel if an appropriate
an certifie over-current protection evice is installe in
series with each string.
· Only mo ules with similar electrical outputs shoul
be connecte in the same series to avoi or minimize
mismatch effects in arrays.

· To minimize risk in the event of an in irect lightning strike,
avoi forming loops when esigning the system.
· The recommen e maximum series fuse rating is state
in a table in the Annex.
· Mo ules shoul be safely fixe to bear all expecte loa s,

· A minimum clearance of 10 mm (0.394 in) or more
between mo ules is require to allow for thermal
expansion of the mo ules. The clearance is from the
plastic corner protector to a jacent plastic corner
protector.

· Even minor partial sha ing (e.g. from irt eposits)

unsha e if its entire surface is free from sha ing all year
roun . Sunlight shall be able to reach the mo ule even on
the shortest ay of the year.

· Permanent sha ing con itions can affect mo ule service
lifetime, ue to accelerate ageing of the encapsulation
material an thermal stress on the bypass io es.
RelIaBle ventIlatIon
· Bifacial ouble glass mo ules nee to obtain irect,
reflecte , or iffuse sunlight on the backsi e to generate
a itional power. Therefore, bifacial mo ules are not
suggeste to be use in buil ing attache photovoltaic
systems (BAPV). If BAPV, or similar mounting is still
require , sufficient clearance at least 10 cm (3.94 in)
between the mo ule an the mounting surface nee s
to be provi e to allow cooling air to circulate aroun
the back of the mo ule. This also allows con ensation or
moisture to issipate.
· Accor ing to UL 1703, any other specific clearance
require for maintaining a system fire rating shoul
prevail. Detaile clearance requirements pertaining to
system fire ratings must be provi e by your racking
supplier.
5.1
module WIRInG
coRRect WIRInG scHeme
· Ensure that the wiring is correct before starting up the
system. If the measure open circuit voltage (Voc) an
short-circuit current (Isc) iffer substantially from the
specifications, this in icates that there is a wiring fault.
· When mo ules have been pre-installe but the system
has not been connecte to the gri yet, each mo ule
string shoul be kept un er open-circuit con itions an
proper actions shoul be taken to avoi ust an moisture
penetration insi e the connectors.
· For CS3U an CS3K series mo ules, Cana ian Solar Inc.
offers recommen e an optional cable specifications to
match various system configurations, which are shown in
table 3:

The maximum istance between two a jacent mo ules
shoul be within 50 mm (1.96 in) for si e with mounting
clamps, an within 25 mm (0.98 in) for si e without
mounting clamps, in or er to meet system cable scheme.
coRRect connectIon of PluG connectoRs
· Make sure that all connections are safe an properly
mate . The PV connectors shoul not be subjecte to
stress from the exterior. Connectors shoul only be use
to connect the circuit. They shoul never be use to turn
the circuit on an off.
· Connectors are not waterproof when unmate . When
installing mo ules, connector shoul be connecte to
each other as soon as possible or appropriate measures
shoul be taken to avoi moisture an ust penetrating
into the connector (T4 en caps).

· Only use e icate solar cable an suitable plugs (wiring
shoul be sheathe in a sunlight-resistant con uit or, if
expose , shoul itself be sunlight-resistant) that meet
local fire, buil ing an electrical regulations. Please ensure
that all wiring is in perfect electrical an mechanical
con ition.
· Installers may only use single-con uctor cable liste an
labele as USE-2 or PV wire which is 90°C wet rate in
North America, an single con uctor cable, 4-16 mm² (5-12
AWG), 90°C wet rate in other areas (i.e. TUV 2PfG1169 or
EN50618 approve ), with proper insulation which is able
to withstan the maximum possible system open-circuit
voltage. Only copper con uctor material shoul be use .
Select a suitable con uctor gauge to minimize voltage
rop an ensure that the con uctor ampacity complies
with local regulations (i.e. NEC 690.8(D)).
caBle and connectoR PRotectIon
· Secure the cables to the mounting system using UV-
resistant cable ties. Protect expose cables from amage
by taking appropriate precautions (e.g. placing them
insi e a metallic raceway like EMT con uit). Avoi
exposure to irect sunlight.
· A minimum ben ing ra ius of 60mm (2.36 in) is require
when securing the junction box cables to the racking
system.
· Protect expose connectors from weathering amage by
taking appropriate precautions. Avoi exposure to irect
sunlight.
· Do not place connectors in locations where water coul
easily accumulate.
5.2
GRoundInG
· EQUIPMENT GROUNDING: Frameless bifacial ouble glass
mo ules (CS3U-MB-FG, CS3K-MB-FG) o not present any
expose con uctive parts, an therefore o not require
to be electrically groun e for compliance to the North
American National Electrical Co e (NEC).
· For groun ing requirements in North America, a mo ule
with expose con uctive parts is consi ere to comply
with UL 1703 only when it is electrically groun e in
accor ance with both the instructions presente below
an the requirements of the National Electrical Co e. Any
groun ing means use with Cana ian Solar Inc. mo ules
shoul be NRTL certifie to UL 467 an UL 2703 stan ar s.
Please consult our technical service team for the formal
approval process.
· For groun ing requirements in other areas, although the
mo ules are certifie to Safety Class II, we recommen
them to be groun e an that mo ule installation shoul
comply with all applicable local electrical co es an
regulations. Groun ing connections shoul be installe by
a qualifie electrician. Connect mo ule frames together
using a equate groun ing cables: we recommen using
4-14 mm² (AWG 6-12) copper wire. Holes provi e for
this purpose are i entifie with a groun ing symbol
(IEC61730-1). All con uctive connection junctions must be
firmly fixe .
· Do not rill any extra groun holes for convenience this
will voi the mo ules warranty.
· All bolts, nuts, flat washers, lock washers an other
relevant har ware shoul be ma e of stainless steel,
unless otherwise specifie .
· Cana ian Solar Inc. oes not provi e groun ing har ware.
· One groun ing metho is recommen e for Cana ian
Solar Inc. stan ar mo ules, as escribe below. For
alternative groun ing metho s, please refer to Annex B
(Alternative Groun ing Metho s) of Installation Manual
Annex of Alumium Frame Dymon Mo ule on the website
(www.cana iansolar.com). It is not possible to use
stan ar groun ing metho s for certain mo ule ranges.

· A groun ing kit containing an M5 (3/16”) SS cap bolt, an
M5 (3/16”) SS flat washer, an M5 (3/16”) SS cup washer,
an an M5 (3/16”) SS nut (with teeth) is use to attach
copper groun ing wire to a pre- rille groun ing hole on
the frame (see image above).
· Place the wire between the flat washer an the cup
washer. Ensure that the cup washer is positione between
the frame an the wire with the concave si e up to
prevent galvanic corrosion. Tighten the bolt securely using
the SS toothe nut. A wrench may be use to o this. The
tightening torque is 3-7 Nm (2.2-5.2 ft-lbs).
6.0

The applicable regulations pertaining to work
safety, acci ent prevention an securing the
construction site must be observe . Workers
an thir party personnel shall wear or install fall arrest
equipment. Any thir party nee to be protecte against
injuries an amages.
· The mounting esign must be certifie by a registere
professional engineer. The mounting esign an
proce ures must comply with local co es an
requirements from all relevant authorities.
· Cana ian Solar Inc. oes not provi e mounting har ware.
· The loa s escribe in this manual correspon to test
loa s. For installations complying with IEC 61215-2:2016
an UL 1703, a safety factor of 1.5 shoul be applie for
calculating the equivalent maximum authorize esign
loa s. Project esign loa s epen on construction,
applicable stan ar s, location an local climate.
Determination of the esign loa s is the responsibility of
the racking suppliers an /or professional engineers. For
etaile information, please follow local structural co e or
contact your professional structural engineer.

GRoundInG metHod:

· Use appropriate corrosion-proof fastening materials. All
mounting har ware (bolts, spring washers, flat washers,
nuts) shoul be hot ip galvanize or stainless steel.
· Use a torque wrench for installation.
· Do not rill a itional holes or mo ify the mo ule frame.
Doing so will voi the warranty.
· Install an tighten the mo ule clamps to the mounting
rails using the torque state by the mounting har ware
manufacturer. System esigner an installer are
responsible for loa calculations an for proper esign
of support structure. It is recommen e to use a torque
wrench for installation. Tightening torques shoul
respectively be within 17-23 Nm (12.5-17.0 ft-lb) for
M8x1.25-Gra e8.8 (5/16”-18 Gra e B7) galvanize or A2-
70 stainless steel coarse threa bolts, epen ing on bolt
class. The yiel strength of bolt an nut shoul not be less
than 450 MPa.
· Clamp material shoul be ano ize aluminum alloy or
steel of appropriate gra e. For frameless mo ule use
clamps, one buffer rubber material (Recommen e
material is EPDM) must be a e between the clamp an
the glass.
· Clamp positions are of crucial importance for the reliability
of the installation, the clamp centerline must only be
positione within the authorize position ranges in icate
below, epen ing on the configuration an loa .

· Mo ules shoul be bolte to support structures through
the mounting holes in the rear frame flanges only.
· Each mo ule must be securely fastene at a minimum of
4 points on two opposite si es.
M8 X 1.25 (5/16”) bolt an nut shoul be use .
The yiel strength of bolt an nut shoul not be less than
450 MPa.
· Tightening torques shoul be within 17-23 Nm (12.5-17.0
ft-lbs) for M8 (5/16”) coarse threa bolts, epen ing on
bolt class.
· In areas with heavy win loa s, a itional mounting points
shoul be use . The system esigner an the installer are
responsible for calculating the loa an ensuring that the
support structure meets the requirements.

of four points on two opposite si es. The clamps shoul
be positione symmetrically. The clamps shoul be
positione accor ing to the authorize position ranges
efine in table below. Install an tighten the mo ule
clamps to the mounting rails using the torque state by
the mounting har ware manufacturer. M8 X 1.25 (5/16”)
bolt an nut are use for this clamping metho . The yiel
strength of bolt an nut shoul not be less than 450MPa.
· Tightening torques shoul be within 17-23 Nm (12.5-
