Canon MVX35i User manual

MVX35i Digital Video Camera
The compact multimedia DV camera for high-quality video and stills.
EXPERIENCE THE CANON DIFFERENCE
With Canon, the moment you watch video footage or hold a print in your hand,
the difference is clear. That’s because only Canon combines four features to
achieve premium-quality video and photos: Genuine Canon Optics, a Megapixel
CCD Image Sensor, DiG!C DV Imaging Sensor and a handy Print/Share button.
This unleashes the full digital imaging power of your Canon camera, ensuring a
superior level of clarity, colour, and excellence in video and photos.
HIGH-QUALITY MOVIES AND SUPERB
2.0 MEGAPIXEL STILL IMAGES
The robust 2.2 Megapixel CCD Image Sensor delivers superior performance
and images with stunning quality. Enjoy footage with finer detail and resolution,
or print and share great photos. Photos are recorded to an SD Memory Card at
1632 x 1224 pixels.
ENJOY TOP IMAGE QUALITY, IN BOTH VIDEO AND STILLS
The MVX35i’s DiG!C DV Image Processor achieves outstanding
video and photo performance. Since video and photos have
different colour requirements, DiG!C DV utilises two different
colour techniques, which maximise video quality on TV screens
and still image quality for printing or computer monitors.

MAKE COMPOSITION AND VIEWING EVEN EASIER
Use the high-resolution 211,000 pixel 2.5" colour LCD screen to compose shots with ease – high or low angle
shooting becomes a breeze. Alternatively, use the colour viewfinder in bright light or to conserve power. Once
you’ve finished recording, the LCD screen makes viewing of your footage comfortable and crystal clear.
VIBRANT AND ACCURATE COLOUR
The MVX35i utilises an RGB Primary Colour Filter, which
separates the light passing through into individual red, green
and blue colour components (the same colour filtration used in
professional 3CCD cameras). This gives richer, more vibrant and
more accurate colour reproduction.
FILM ROCK-STEADY FOOTAGE
Canon’s innovative Image Stabilizer system instantly compensates
for camera shake created when shooting hand-held, full telephoto,
or on-the-move footage. In Canon’s digital video cameras, Image
Stabilizer technology is particularly effective while panning and
zooming, making videos look steady and natural.
GET CLOSER TO THE ACTION WITH CANON GENUINE OPTICS
The key to achieving quality digital video footage lies in the optics
used to capture them. Canon has a long-standing reputation for
producing high-quality, professional optics. Canon’s expertise in
designing and crafting precision lenses for photography and broadcast
TV lenses goes into every camera lens that is produced. The MVX35i’s
optical zoom (10x) delivers superb definition and contrast, while the
digital zoom (200x) reveals details too small to see with the naked eye.

PRINT AND SHARE – SHOW OFF YOUR IMAGES QUICKLY AND EASILY
Print or download photos directly from
the MVX35i, with just a single touch of a
button. Simply connect the camera to one
of the Canon CP Photo printers, a Canon
Bubble Jet Direct Photo printer, or any
PictBridge compatible printer and press the Print/Share button
on the camera to print. Or connect your camera to your
computer and with a single push you can download and share
photos with friends and family.
ENJOY THE FEATURES OF A DIGITAL STILL CAMERA WITH
FULL PHOTOGRAPHIC CONTROL
The MVX35i offers selectable Focusing Points for bringing
off-centre subjects into sharp focus. Its Continuous
Shooting mode enables rapid fire shooting – up to 3 frames
per second (1632 x 1224) or up to 5 frames per second
(1280 x 960; 640 x 480). Simultaneous Photo Recording
lets you capture email-ready digital photos (640 x 480)
while you record video. With the press of a button, Auto
Exposure Bracketing lets you shoot three photos – normal,
underexposed and overexposed. The built-in flash with
Red-Eye Reduction is perfect for taking photos at night,
indoors, or filling in shadows.
RECORD SHORT MOVIE CLIPS DIRECTLY
TO MEMORY CARD
The MVX35i is both SD Memory Card and
MultimediaCard compatible. This allows you
to record movie clips in MPEG-4 format to the
card. These mini-movies are ideal for attaching to an email
or posting on the web. When using an SD Memory Card, you
can record video for the full length of the card.
SHOOT WIDESCREEN FOOTAGE
To match today’s popular widescreen TVs, the MVX35i can record high-resolution 16:9 video.
Unlike systems which simply record a vertically stretched picture, the MVX35i uses the full width
of the CCD, retaining image
quality and providing a
larger horizontal angle of
view at the wide end.
SHOOT WITH EASE IN ANY CONDITIONS
USING AUTO EXPOSURE MODES
Auto mode is all you need, most of the time. But, for complex photographic
situations, the Canon MVX35i has pre-programmed Auto Exposure modes
such as: Sport, Portrait, Spotlight, and Surf/Sand & Snow.
ENJOY GREATER CONTROL OVER CREATIVITY
The fully-automatic functionality of the MVX35i DV camera provides exceptional ease of use for first-time users.
For more experienced users, manual controls such as Manual Focus, Exposure, White Balance and Shutter
Speed allow you to push creativity and enhance results even further.
THE RIGHT ILLUMINATION FOR ANY
SHOOTING SITUATION
When in Night mode, the MVX35i automatically
adjusts exposure and film sensitivity settings
to bring more light into
poorly lit environments,
as well as retain colour.
In Super Night mode, it
automatically adds light
to a dark scene using a
high brightness LED light
(Mini Video Light) on the
front of the camera. In Night+ mode, this LED
light can be turned off and on manually. A Mini
Video Light, which is approximately 4x brighter
than a conventional white LED, allows you to
shoot up to 1.5 metres away in total darkness. It
can be switched on in any Program mode. For
shooting close-up subjects (less than 30cm away),
the supplied Ring Light Adaptor provides even
illumination and prevents shadows.
GIVE YOUR MOVIES A CREATIVE EDGE
For a creative touch, a more appealing look, or greater
imaging variety, switch on one of 18 digital effects such
as: Faders, Art, Black & White Picture, Sepia, Mosaic, Ball,
Cube, Wave, Colour Mask, and Mirror.

MOVIES WITH SUPERIOR SOUND AND MANUAL AUDIO CONTROL
The MVX35i offers two digital audio modes: 12 and 16-bit. 16-bit mode offers high-quality, CD-equivalent stereo
sound, while 12-bit records four channels. A new function removes noise associated with strong wind, without
any loss of audio quality. The MVX35i also comes with Manual Audio Control that allows you to adjust the audio
level manually and monitor audio levels via the viewfinder and LCD screen.
EASY TRANSFER OF FOOTAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER
Once you’ve captured your images or your short movie clip, transferring them to your computer is easy. For fast
and convenient download of footage from an SD memory card to a computer, use the in-built USB 2.0 Hi-speed
terminal and the software provided. For high-speed transfer of video to a DV-compatible computer, use the
IEEE1394-compliant DV terminal or the USB 2.0 Hi-speed terminal*. This allows you to edit scenes and create
your very own high-quality movies.
*With Windows XP and Microsoft Movie Maker 2
CONVERT ANALOGUE INTO DIGITAL
Send an analogue video signal from a TV, VCR or a DV camera into any
MVX35i camera and you can record it onto a DV tape. Alternatively,
convert the analogue signal into a digital signal, for direct transfer to
digital video devices or computers equipped with a DV terminal.
MAKE YOUR OWN HOME MOVIES
With the included VideoPresenter software, you can create professional
looking home movies quickly and easily with audio, titles, effect and
transitions using a DV equipped PC with Windows® XP or Windows® 2000.
